Story
This pet is currently being fostered. Please email info@prairiepaws.org to arrange an appointment to meet the pet. Prairie Paws is temporarily closed. Lucky is a fun cutie with a happy personality that is infectious. Lucky is a pointer mix with an estimated DOB of 12/02/17 and weighed 43 lbs at intake. He came to us as a transfer from a shelter low on space with high hopes of finding a forever home. Ready to give this cutie a second chance at a fantastic life? Lucky even enjoys the company of other low key dogs too! Lucky's adoption fee is $190 which includes a medical exam, sterilization surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, dewormer, heartworm testing, and a microchip. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. As we get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. All PPAS puppies and dogs are up to date on all of their vaccines (including rabies if age appropriate), and will be micro chipped and registered in the adopter's name at the time of adoption. Adopters get a free consultation at an area vet partner within 14 days of adoption. Long term pet health insurance is available through Companion Protect. Any dog that is six months of age or older will be tested for Heartworms and if found negative, will be kept on Heartworm prevention during their shelter stay, after the adoption it is up to the adopter to continue the highly recommended Heartworm preventative treatment. Also all PPAS shelter dogs are treated with a monthly topical flea/tick preventative and we ask that adopters continue that treatment as well. Per state law we sterilize all shelter pets before they begin their new fabulous lives with their new families. The shelter is open to the public: Mon, Wed, Thurs 11-6 and Sat 11-4. If you are interested in this dog or puppy, please either email Prairie Paws Animal Shelter at info@prairiepaws.org, for an application visit our website @ prairiepaws.org or call 785.242.2967 for more information. Here's the scoop on the adoption process: Placing a Hold: A hold may be placed on an animal for $20.00 a day up to 3 business days ($60.00 max). The hold fee is non-refundable and does not go towards the adoption fee. We encourage you to utilize the hold system if you are interested in a certain pet. A credit card number may be given over the phone or the fee paid at the shelter to ensure the pet you are interested in is available for a meet and greet. Placing the animal on hold makes it so others cannot have a meet and greet with the animal until the hold expires. Holds are on a first call/come first serve basis. You must call or come in, holds cannot be put down via email. You may call the shelter as early as 8am on any open day to place a hold. In person meet and greet: Potential adopters must come and meet the animal before an adoption can take place. We cannot do over the phone sight unseen adoptions. Business hours vary and are listed on our website (www.prairiepaws.org) or at end of our email correspondence. If you have other animals you would like to bring to the meet and greet we encourage you to do so. We have outdoor enclosures and trained kennel staff will assist with all meet and greets. All family members, including children, are encouraged to attend the meet and greet. Adoption Questionnaire: Potential adopters will need to fill out the adoption questionnaire. Adoption questionnaires are available on our website or at the meet and greet. Once complete, an Adoption Counselor will review the questionnaire with the potential adopter and will have a discussion to ask and/or answer any additional questions. From there, the adoption counselor will print and review all appropriate paperwork with the adopter to provide important and and educational information regarding the animal. Adoption fees: Adoption fees must be paid in full at time of adoption – no partial payments are accepted. Cash, Check or all major credit cards are accepted. Adoption fees vary. Please note if you live in the city of Ottawa a dog license fee must also be paid at time of adoption. Annual renewal of dog licenses is required between January 1st and February 15th. Taking your animal home: The State of Kansas requires that all cats and dogs must be sterilized (spayed/neutered) before going to their new homes. In most cases animals will have already been sterilized before being placed on the adoption floor and you will be able to take your new companion home with you the day of adoption. However, if the animal is not yet sterilized, they will need to stay at the shelter and we will schedule the surgery on the next available date (usually within a week). We do request that all dogs go home with a collar/leash, so if you have one please bring it along or we do have a great selection available in our retail area. The shelter is open to the public: Mon, Wed, Thurs 11-6 and Sat 11-4. Story
Approx. DOB: 7/15/13        Approx. Wht: 65 lbs. Adoption fee is $150 and includes a 2 week trial to help ensure everyone's happiness. ADOPTION FEE FULLY SPONSORED     ~~~~~~~~~~~~NO CATS !!!!!~~~~~~~~~~~~ Carmen and her 11 puppies were taken in from a local shelter when her puppies were only 2-3 weeks old. She proved to be the most devoted, caring mommy we have ever had the pleasure of taking in. Carmen is currently in a foster home, and had gotten along great. If you are looking for a super sweet girl, who loves to be with her people, she could be the dog for you.  She is one of the happiest, most loving dogs you have ever seen, always wagging her tail and smiling.  She definitely loves being with her people, but also gets along well with her foster siblings.  When she first came into her foster home, she kept trying to play with her foster sister (who is 11 1/2 and not very interested in playing), so another younger foster dog was brought in, and she has taken to him incredibly well.  They have enjoyed playing and romping in the yard together.  She could benefit from being in a home with another dog that likes to play, although, she has been found to be slightly dog selective, preferring non aggressive dogs, so a home visit with a family who has another dog would be suggested to ensure they will get along.     Carmen didn't know basic commands, but has learned to stay, and sit, and goes to lay on her bed when she is told to do so.  She is happiest having a bed on the floor, and has not gotten up on the furniture at all, even though the animals are allowed on the furniture in her foster home.  During the day, she is out, and sleeps on the floor on her bed in her foster mom's bedroom at night and there have been no issues with either her staying out during the day or at night.  She seems to not have much sense for telling when she needs to go outside, except for going to the door and waiting, but she is completely house trained, and this has not been a problem in her foster home.    She is pretty good on a leash, and gets really excited about walks, although she does pull a bit, but for her size, it's really not bad.  Her family will need to continue to work with her on that aspect, but I think she will learn with time Carmen has been spayed, heart worm tested negative, vaccinated, wormed, micro chipped and if you would like to meet/adopt/foster this sweet girl please fill out a application at furrykidsrefuge.org/adoptadog and a dedicated volunteer will be in touch. Furry Kids' Refuge is in need of good quality dog and puppy food with meat as the first ingredient.  You can drop off donations at our weekly adoption events at the Lee's Summit Petco (1860 NW Chipman Road, Lee's Summit, MO), Saturdays only from Noon to 4:00 p.m.  Donations are tax deductible as allowed by law.  Would you like to foster a Furry Kid? Furry Kids' Refuge will supply the food & vet care while you supply the basic house rules & love.......win-win for all!!  Just visit our website http://www.furrykidsrefuge.org/category/fostering/  for more information. Thanks for your support!
