Story
Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Stella. We believe she is a wonderful mix of pointer/hound. Stella is 2 years old and has a short hair coat. She weighs 42lb. She was surrendered to the high kill shelter by her owners as she was too active for them. Stella is a super sweet dog. She has zero aggression tendencies. She is very quiet, which she gets from her Pointer mix traits. She is only vocal sometimes when playing with the other dogs. She loves all dogs, regardless of size, sex or age. She is not a bully at all. The shelter tested her with cats and she does not like them. She is a high energy dog and very athletic. She would excel in flyball or agility. Stella is very affectionate and will kiss everyone for as long as you let her. She is timid at first but within 24 hours she gained the trust in her foster family. Stella is incredibly gentle, slightly hand shy. She loves cuddles. She has the appetite of a hound so her food is measured out three times daily. This gal came into our care housebroken. She loves to play outside, though she will need a coat in the cooler weather because of her short coat. Stella is very good in the vehicle. She is apprehensive on a leash so we don't believe she had much exposure to it. We recommend a body harness and a lead for any of our dogs for full control. She is crate trained but only uses it in when the family is out. Stella sleeps with a family member at night time. The ideal family is one where she is given the time and patience to trust and train with her daily. She won't be able to be walked by a child as being a hound she will have a prey drive. Children will be ideal but perhaps older ones would be best. Younger children can be loud at times when excited, which might frighten her. Priority will be given to those applicants with another socialized resident canine. Stella is spayed, 4DX tested negative, fully vaccinated, on heartworm and flea prevention. She is also microchipped. A fully fenced yard and a Veterinarian history of compliance are mandatory to apply for Stella.
