Story
Floyd / M / approx. 2 yrs / 53 lbs / Saluki Greyhound Mix / Toronto
Floyd’s fosters describe him as a gorgeous, smart, super sweet, funny, playful, curious and goofy boy. Floyd loves to receive affection from his trusted humans and will actively seek out your love by nuzzling his snout into your lap and burying his head in your hands for pets. He will eagerly flop over on to his back for belly rubs and has the cutest, most eager-to-please face when he knows treats or walkies are in store for him. Floyd loves his people with all of his heart and gives the best, happiest of welcomes when he comes out of his crate or meets you at the front door.
Floyd’s favorite activities include going for long walks, playing with his stuffies, chewing on bones and running around in the yard getting his zoomies out. When he is playing he has an adorable prance. After a nice walk, he also enjoys napping while you watch Netflix.
Floyd is an extremely smart boy and very food-motivated. He knows sit, paw, other paw, down, stay and sits politely for meal time.
When meeting new people, Floyd can be a little shy at first, but warms up quickly. Once he’s had a chance to check you out, he will quickly nuzzle in for pets or roll over on his back for belly scratches. Floyd does well with respectful children and mirrors their energy. When they are calm and quiet, so is he. When they get playful, he loves to join in.
Floyd’s ideal home will have some dog experience and live in a quieter, lower traffic neighbourhood. Floyd does sometimes bark at hallway noises and so condo living may not be ideal. He would love a big fenced yard to run zoomies in but given that he received lots of walkies, this is not necessary. Floyd would do best as the only pet in the home.
Floyd is on the higher side of medium energy and is doing well with two 45 min walks a day plus potty breaks. Floyd is not a dog park kind of guy and needs a family committed to exercising him with walks. Floyd is fearful of other dogs he encounters on walks and might bark and growl. He will need a family that is willing to continue the work with his leash etiquette. Floyd is an intelligent dog and receptive to positive reinforcement based training.
Floyd is crated when his people go out and provided he’s has a nice long walk before hand, he settles easily for up to 5 hours. When unsupervised, he may chew on slippers or shoes and so a puppy proofed space is needed. With consistent potty breaks, Floyd is 100% house trained.
