Story
On September 11th, 2015 Sonny was hit by a car in Chicago and taken to Chicago Animal Care and Control.  He sat there for almost a week.....his euthanasia date was set but that didn't stop ICARe president Margaret from doing everything possible to save his life.  After many, many phone calls and emails we got Sonny to safety and more importantly to see the vet!  Tests were done showing a spinal cord injury that will not heal.  Sonny had no use of his back legs.  He also could not urinate on his own so his bladder had to be expressed manually.   Let me tell you how amazing this dog is. He can now urinate on his own AND even more amazing is Sonny is getting therapy and regaining the function in his back legs. He can take several steps and stand on his own! Sonny has some wheels to help him get around on longer walks as his front end is very strong and he is perfectly capable of going all over!  Sonny needs a special, special forever home.  A family that will love him and treat him like a king.

Molly is an incredibly sweet and beautiful, three-year-old, 50-pound, female fawn Shar Pei looking for a loving guardian. Molly suffered a crushed spine after being hit by a car. She suffered from incontinence and paralyzed back legs. She gets along surprisingly well with a custom boot. She’s been getting acupuncture and laser therapy to see if she can get back some of her feeling. She is good with most dogs. She is otherwise healthy, spayed, de-wormed, up-to-date on vaccines, micro-chipped and heartworm-tested negative. Murphy is a handsome, sweet and shy, 11-year-old, 41-pound, male cream Shar Pei looking for a loving guardian. Murphy is nervous with new people at first and will growl when he’s uncomfortable. But he’s absolutely wonderful once you get to know him. He’ll be great with an experienced Shar Pei-lover. He is good with select dogs at the kennel – mostly females, but some males. Sadly, his human is in hospice and he was given to rescue to find a home. Because he’s nervous, he’s best with adults and teens, and not small children. He is a healthy seniore, de-wormed, up-to-date on vaccines, neutered, heartworm-tested, on monthly preventative and micro-chipped. Rosie is a lovely, sweet, gentle, playful and well-behaved, eight-year-old, 62-pound, female Shar Pei / Shepherd-mix looking for a loving guardian. Rosie is perfectly housebroken and great with people of all ages including children. She may be best as the only dog in the home and she has not been cat-tested. Rescued in Texas, this girl loves the warmth of indoors, and enjoys wearing a coat in the Chicago winter. She knows the command sit and takes treats ever so gently from your fingers. She had heartworm disease when she was rescued, but Rosie has been cured and is now very healthy, spayed, de-wormed, up-to-date on vaccines, micro-chipped and heartworm-tested negative. Her adoption fee of $250 benefits the rescued pets of Pei Land Rescue in Plano, Illinois. Annie and Rico are a bonded pair of three-year-old shy and sweet Shar Pei looking for a loving guardian together This dynamic duo met at the rescue and just adore one another. They can be adopted individually or ideally together. Annie weighs in at 48 chubby pounds; Rico is a slim 45 pounds. They are both a bit shy at first, but still so sweet and loving. Rico has the softest coat you’ve ever felt; he feels like velour. And, Annie is a bit chubby and loves her treats. Annie is doing well with her housebreaking; Rico needs a refresher course. They both love to play together, and they love to play with toys. They are very healthy, neutered/spayed, up-to-date on vaccines, microchipped, heartworm-tested and on monthly preventative. Story
Millie Moo is a sweet, spoiled, loving 70 pound 1 1/2 year old pure bred EXTREMELY HIGH ENERGY boxer. She is looking for a high energy female to live with.She is petrified of men So I have to rehome my baby as I am disabled have to move unfortunately landlord will not allow her. Mill is a runner so doors cannot be left open. She is a jumper so an 8 foot fence mandatory. NO EXCEPTIONS!! She is not microchipped. However, she is current on her shots, and spayed. I want to adopt her out to a stable loving forever home. Make sure you READ the contract before you sign on the dotted line. As much as I love her, I dont want to keep adopting her out only to get her back after 3 days. Fine though as I dont want her dumped just anywhere including a high kill shelter. That is why I am being extra picky about who will adopt her. My new place is ready and waiting. Mill is GREAT with kids, cats, other dogs, she does have issues with men.
