Story
I acquired Lucy (she is now 4) from a family friend a year ago. It was a couple who had just brought a baby into the home. Lucy had always had behavioral issues with them such as resource guarding (aggressively) and nipping when displeased. They were nervous that her behavior could hurt their baby and gave her to us. Since we've had her she has improved quite a bit , we can talk her away from something she's guarding within a minute (socks and tissue take a little longer without a treat), she is better with touch from us as well. She's always been great with the bathroom not a single accident, she is leash trained. She's terrible with other dogs she wants to attack all of them. It's nerve-racking to show her to new people because she is unpredictable at times (DM for elaboration). I want her new owner to be either a single person or a couple that are willing to dedicate time to playing with her and can be patient with her behavior. It'll be easier if you have a backyard.

Story
Ari came to us as an owner surrender in July 2023, due to reactivity in his home. He is a 2 year old Shiba Inu that did not get the proper training and structure to truly thrive in his previous home (the only home he has ever known). We have seen an improvement since he arrived. He allows the people here to walk him and actually is very playful with toys. However, he is still weary of being pet if he doesn't know you. Ari needs a home that will continue training, and get him accustomed to new surroundings, and people. Ari takes some time to trust you (can you blame him?), so multiple meet and greets are required (he IS WORTH IT!!). Our adorable fella already knows "sit" and "down" and with some extra TLC we now someone out there is going to be fast friends with Ari.If you want to find out more, contact our placement team at The Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter:E: Adoption@hempsteadny.govE: Rescue@hempsteadny.govT: 516.785.5220#survivor #overbred #yorkie #doodle #husky #shepherd #terrier #mixedbreed #seeme #dogtiktok #doglove #blackwhite #brindle #senior #seniordogs #fosteringsaveslives #dogsrule #seniordog #seniordogs #animalrescue #rescued #shelterdog #shelterdogs #savealife #shelter #rescuedog #dogsofinstagram #rescuedogsofinstagram #adoptdontshop #dog #dogs #dogstagram #rescue #instadog #dogoftheday #doglife #puppy #doglover #rescuedismyfavoritebreed #dogsofinsta #doglovers #rescuedogs #doggo #love #puppylove #muttsofinstagram #puppiesofinstagram #ilovemydog #happydog #adopt #cute #pitbull #mutt #dogsofig #pitbullsofinstagram #socialmediamutts #shelterfacebookdogs #dogmom #petsofinstagram #dogslife #instagram #cutedogs #of #shelterdog #cutedog #dogphotography #doglove #puppies #dogsofinstaworld #pets #rescuepup #pet #mixedbreed #petstagram #dogrescue #instadogs #rescuedogsrock #dontbullymybreed #adoptme #furbaby #hundeliebe #lovedogs #doggy #seniordog #rescueismyfavoritebreed #dogmodel #bruisednotbroken #decompressdoggy #bemyforever #whatisforeverfamily #loveme #shelterpup #shelterpups #eastcoastshelterdogs #eastcoastshelterdog

Story
Hi My Name is BELLA and I am a gentle, sweet 8 year old FEMALE SHIBA INU MIX with a gorgeous White and Cream colored coat. I am full grown and petite, weighing just 38 pounds. I was lucky to be rescued from the Illegal Dog Meat Trade in Thailand and am grateful for a second chance. Despite my less than ideal start to life, I hold no grudges against humans and in fact am NON-AGGRESSIVE and love to give hugs. My foster mom says I’m very low maintenance as I am completely HOUSE-TRAINED and can entertain myself for hours playing and throwing my squeaky toy up in the air. I also think car rides are fun. I would love to be part of a family that understands that I am cautious when it comes to unexpected noises, big cities, and young children. I can be a bit shy when meeting new people, so I might hide behind my foster mom when you first come visit. But please give me a chance, and come visit me a few times; I promise to be your most loyal buddy once I get comfortable (just ask my foster mom!). I am living in a foster with another DOG and CAT and I get along with the dog and ignore the cat, so will be okay in a home with either or both types of fur siblings (but not with young humans). Story
The first thing you notice about Grimmel, besides his fantastic name, is his wizened face. His face makes you think of a storybook character, perhaps one that you might meet on a quest who gives you a clue as to where you are headed. To sum Grimmel up, he is pretty magical! Small in stature but big in heart and personality, he is one cool dog. He is the definition of a sprightly senior and in a lot of ways resembles a smaller version of one of our other seniors, Frankie. He likes toys and treats in equal measure, and a stuffed toy is the way to his heart. Grimmel is 12 years old but you would not know it by how he acts; he can be low-key and taking a nap one minute and strutting to the yard the next for playtime. If you have a soft spot for seniors, then Grimmel is the guy for you! Contact the Adoptions team at (914) 273-1674 or adoptions@adoptadog,org for more information!
