Story

Sweetie Pie was in a shelter after being found as a stray. She suffers from severe neglect. Her fur was matted to her skin, it took us 5 hours to shave her down and get her bathed. Her eyes were so crusted we had to soak them to get the chunks of debris to just start coming off. The shelter felt she was not an adoptable pup so they were set to euthanize her the next morning when we got called to ask if we would consider taking her in. One look at her silly face and we had to get her to safety to see what we could do for her. Sweetie Pie is blind in both eyes and will have a vet evaluation in a few days. We don't know if she will need to have them removed yet, but there is a very big chance they will need to be. Sweetie is slow to trust and who can blame her, but once she knows she's safe in your arms she is a sweetheart. Because of her vision loss she needs to be spoken to before you pick her up or go to pet her. She gets scared otherwise. I would be too if someone just grabbed at me. Sweetie is 10+ years old and weighs approx 7 to 9 lbs. She will have a beautiful coat once it grows a bit and she is eating a healthy diet now. She suffers from a condition called crate foot where an animal has been caged in a small area for so long that their feet start to bend in an abnormal manner. This gets better with time. Her nails had also grown into the pads of her feet and because of that she needs to step lightly until she's used to touching the ground. Sweetie has a great appetite and loves her food. She wakes right up when we come to feed her. Sweetie will not be in a home with young children as she is delicate and we don't feel comfortable having her in a very active atmosphere. She deserves a lap and love for the rest of her days. We think she will have a very happy life in the proper environment. Sweetie is located in Freeport NY Her adoption fee is $400

Dusty! Just reminds you of that sweet granddad from the south. With is perpetually irresistible grumpy face, he fools you into thinking hes a grinch. However, he is the funniest and most lovely 12 year old shih tzu lhaso mix. This senior boy is extremely friendly with everyone and easy to handle. He loves food and just hangs out with people. Generally, he loves people and ignores dogs and rabbits (his foster home has both). Honestly, Dusty would be just great with cats too. Dusty is housebroken and enjoys going on walks. His leash manners are impeccable! All in all, sweet Dusty is a low maintenance gentleman that cant wait for his retirement. At which point, he plans to eat, nap, cuddle, and breathe the fresh air! Great for an older, family, or adult home! Dusty would do well in an apartment or home. He is respectful of his neighbors and doesn't bark at all. We do believe he has limited vision and hearing. This does not get him down, he is highly adaptable, intelligent, and travels well! This boy picks up on what you ask of him quickly, especially if you have an edible incentive for him! Dusty came to us when his human went from hospice at home to the hospital. Unfortunately, his human was unable to care for him. Luckily, Dusty had a team of angels behind him. The hospice workers would walk and feed him. Once it was clear that this was unfair to Dusty, he was surrendered into our care.
