Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Fill out an Adoption Application Due to COVID-19, many of our veterinarians have restricted access to non-emergency services.   As a result, we have not been able to have some of our dogs spayed/neutered prior to adoption, which causes the dog to stay in foster care, and prevents rescue of another dog in need of foster care.  With many other shelters and rescues closing down, we want and need, to continue to save lives.  For a limited time, intact dogs may be available to adopt on a Foster-to-Adopt basis, dependent on the adopter's location and ability to travel to our partner clinics when they are fully operational.   Mastiffs To Mutts Rescue reserves the right to determine appropriate placement.    Under no circumstances will an intact dog be placed in a home with an intact dog of the opposite sex.    Please email mastiffstomutts@gmail.com for further details, if you would like to consider this option to adopt.  Shuri is friendly, but cautious as she settles into her foster home and they learn more about her.  Willingly waits to be on a leash to go outside.  Likes - will pick up a stuffed toy and carry it to her special place, enjoys walks on leash Dislikes - loud noises as this causes her to run to the house and want back inside Personality  - very shy currently. She needs patience in order to gain trust. Temperament- easily takes medication when they are hidden in small balls made of canned wet food.  Prefers kibble mixed with wet food. Did well at the visit to vet and stood still for exam. Energy level to be determined. House trained- not yet but may be partially due to currently being treated for UTI and she is afraid to go outdoors to potty. Periods of time outside with other dogs watching them potty but she will come back inside and go on a designated rug. Not cat tested.   Crate trained- She sleeps through the night with her foster sibling dogs in the bedroom.  Shuri has not been crated because she doesn't like to be alone and everyone is currently home. Medical issues- currently being treated for UTI Best home would be with another canine companion for increased confidence and to show her the ropes.  She gets along well with her 4 Newfie foster siblings. She seeks them out at bedtime and for companionship. A lower activity home appears to be best for her as we learn more about her and her personality appears. Fostered in Wooster, OH.  Application Fees, Adoption Donations and Rescue Policy: Please know that 100% of our funds are used for rescuing the dogs. Our rescue policy requires the following: Adopters must have their primary residence in one of the following states: Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, and parts of North Carolina and and parts of New York. We will not adopt a giant breed dog to homes where the dog will have access to highly varnished hardwood steps inside the home. Any inside steps to which the dog(s) have access, must have carpeting, securely fixed stair treads, or a non-skid surface. We encourage you to remediate potential safety issues while your application is under review, prior to the home visit. Applications for giant breed dogs must be submitted by the property owner. Homes with children under 6 years of age will not be approved for adoption. Homes with children should have a fenced yard. Pets currently in the applicant's home must have a history of appropriate veterinary care. Veterinary records will be checked. All references must be checked before any visitation of the dog is permitted at the foster home. All family members must be present during the home visit to the applicant's home. Any dog(s) in the applicant's home must have an introductory meeting with the rescue dog being considered, before any adoption can be completed. Homes with intact dogs will not be approved for adoption. Exceptions to this policy can be found on the Adoptable Dog Page. We do not have a shelter. We focus on local adoptions in DC and the metro area of Maryland and Virginia. CDR&CK has a thorough adoption process in order to find the best possible fit for each of our dogs and cats (we do not operate under a first-come, first served model). Upon accepting a new cat or dog into the organization, we provide a basic vet visit that includes necessary vaccinations, disease screenings, deworming, microchips, and spay/neuter (unless specified). We do not provide a comprehensive medical exam prior to adoption. As a result, sickness, injury, and disability may exist unbeknownst to CDR&CK. City Dogs Rescue & City Kitties is not responsible for payment of any vet care, including known and unknown medical conditions once a cat or dog is adopted from us. Dog specific: Rabies, DHPP, Bordatella vaccines. They are tested for HW, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasmosis. Most cats and dogs will have a house training accident in the initial days in their new home and we cannot guarantee any pet is housebroken or crate trained. We also update our Facebook page daily with new cats and dogs. ##599712##
