Story
Enzo is an extremely high energy dog who needs an owner who will help him exert his energy in a healthy way. He would be best suited for a very active owner who has an outlet that Enzo can be part of. He enjoys chasing footballs, and playing keep away. Enzo is still very young at the age of 2, so his owner will need to be someone who understands that he needs to have training, and will remain consistent. He is a very jumpy dog, to the point he can almost jump over your head. He is very toy motivated and is a fan of treats, however he can be quick to snatch a toy or treat out of your hand. It may be in Enzo`s best interest he not go to a home with small children due to this. He is a dog who likes to chew, and uses his mouth to communicate by mouthing on your hand or arm. This is a puppy behavior that he will need help addressing and training before it becomes a bigger issue. Enzo has great potential to be a wonderful companion. He just needs someone who will put the time into him, so he can give them his best. If there is another dog in the home, it would be best for Enzo to meet them before going home.

Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home.  Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion. A note to those looking at CPR.  We have no perfect dogs - but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone.  Our job is to find those someone's.  Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog.  They come to us because they want to give a dog a home.  We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture.  While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face.  Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home.  We want to create furever families.  Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today.  We'll update as more information is known.  Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days?  If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application.  You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side.  You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available.  Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes?  Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email.  We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team   Date into Rescue: 02/21/11 the first time, adopted and returned in 2016 Reason for being in rescue: Original owner had no time for, adopter returned due to aggression and resource guarding Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Whitley has known issues with resource guarding. This is a manageable behavior. We have been successful in breaking her resource guarding habits of objects by "trading up" - meaning we distract her with something else to take her mind off of what she is guarding. Whitley was returned because she bit the owner and her adult son. The bite to the owner occurred when she tried to take away a piece of chicken from her. (It had bones in it, so the owner persisted, even though Whitley had growled and then showed teeth.) The bite to the son occurred when Whitley ran out an open door. He grabbed her by the hips to stop her, and she whirled around and bit him. (We do not know if this was a reflex reaction or intended bite.)  Whitley came to us with a fear or mops and brooms. She's gotten better around these objects while in our care, but does have moments where she'd just rather not be around them.  Weight: 55 lb Height: 22 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $1 I am special Fence needed? No What kind of home would be best for me? Whitley needs an adult only home. She loves and is great with men and women, but she is not good with children. They move too fast and make loud noises.  Whitley needs a home with a dog savvy person, someone confident in their dog handling skills, because Ms. Whitley is going to push the envelope and see what she can and cannot get away with.  Once she is made aware that that behavior is unacceptable and wasn't going to be tolerated, she behaves like the good dog we know she can be. She needs regular exercise to help burn off her typical standard poodle energy. She loves to run in a fenced yard then go for a walk - in that order, so she's better with her leash walking. While Whitley can be around dogs when she is outside and has lived with another dog previously, we are recommending that she be the only dog in her home to avoid any potential issues related to her resource guarding. Whitley looks a bit messy now but wait til Sunday.  Whitley is one of the dogs that will be groomed by professional groomers competing to bring out the best in their assigned rescue dog!  I can't wait to post the after pictures. https://atlantapetfair.org/home-page/ What is my personality like? Whitley is very intelligent and loves interacting with people. She does great with positive reinforcement training and has learned a long list of commands. Whitley is also confident, inquisitive and active. She loves to take walks and "explore" the world. She loves to ride in the car, especially our director's big SUV which is set up in the back like a big, rolling dog bed. She can look out the window, sniff out the side windows or take a nap, waiting to see what this adventure is all about. Whitley is now a senior, about to turn 12 years old. She's mellowed.  She's less reactive, more loving. She spent time with a trainer in Hendersonville NC and responded beautifully to the resource guarding management techniques that Comora offered her.  We think she is ready, finally, to find that one person who will let her be her.    In the meantime, we want to recognize and celebrate Whitley's SOS sponsors - WESLEY J & JEN L, JACKIE O.  Thanks to these generous donors, Whitley's behavior challenges have been able to be studied and worked on. Her life was never in danger thanks to you.  Life is precious. All life.  Celebrate it. And learn from those who don't fit in - that is our SOS mantra.   How do I act when I first meet new people? Curious, but not pushy.   Other tips and tidbits: Whitley's birthday is 7/25/2008.  Whitley is HIGHLY food motivated. She will do nearly anything for food! Whitley is good with being groomed and stands nicely on the grooming table. House trained? Whitley does not soil her run.  We think she will house train easily.  Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule.   Please note - we do not ship dogs.  If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip.  Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.   To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home.   You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you - poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc.  Others here may be a better fit for you.  It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description.  Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a  dog not in our listings yet.  We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. Thank you for considering CPR.

Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Ollie's left eye pupil does not constrict normally.  He has not been evaluated by an ophthamologist, but our general practitioner vet believes his vision is very impaired in that eye and there is most likely not a fix for that.  The other eye appears fine.  His periperal vision especially on the left is the problem.   Weight: 55 lb long and lanky  Height: 26 in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $499 Fence needed? Yes What kind of home would be best for me? We are seeking a home with an experienced dog owner who can work with food aggression and some resource (crate) aggression.  No children under 18 please and a stable and routine oriented person who is looking for a very best friend and willing to understand. Ollie has always been owned by a single person.  If a couple wishes to adopt him, we encourage you to make sure both of you use the same cues at all times to make sure Ollie has his routine.   What is my personality like? At first he is shy, and a little cautious, once he opens up though, he likes to play with any kind of ball you will throw for him, but he can’t catch them. He just lets them bounce off his nose. He knows how to sit and shake and wait and he can give paw.  We think he knows more but we've not found them all out yet.  He’s a very cute and playful boy, who  wants a home where he can chase tennis balls (or footballs) all day long, not to mention the occasional squirrel!  Ollie gets so excited to meet someone new, he tires to hump, but will stop after some gentle verbal correction and redirection to a positive action (sit/wait/chase ball).  He is very, very bright and would excel in something like nosework or rally obedience where eyesight is less important than intuition, intelligence and a good nose. How do I act when I first meet new people? A little shy at first, but quickly wants to play. Other tips and tidbits: Ollie Owen's birthday is 1/14/2017. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. CPR pulled him from the shelter.  Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet, SC Special Needs? Rafiki walks with an interesting gait for unknown reasons. This could be from an extended period of neglect.  Weight: 42.14 lb Height: in Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $499 Fence needed? Yes What kind of home would be best for me? Rafiki is not a dog for a first time owner. He is a young boy but has done hard time on the streets. He is used to playing by his rules and does not like to be told otherwise. Rafiki's ideal owner is an experienced and patient standard poodle owner. He would benefit from another large dog in the house to learn from and play with. Rafiki cannot be in a home with cats or small dogs. He is also not a dog for a home with children. He needs calm and consistent. What is my personality like? Rafiki is named after the character in the Lion King. Like the Disney character, Rafiki has an outward personality that is eccentric and somewhat goofy. But a look deeper into this boy's eyes will show you a dog with a huge heart, a caring soul and a strong desire to make deep connections. Rafiki arrived at Dreamweaver Farms a mess. He was at least 15 pounds underweight, deeply matted, and fearful of many new experiences. It took 3 days before he could hold down food. And almost 2 weeks before the light returned to his eyes. Through this all, Rafiki watched. He watched his caregivers. He watched the dogs around him. And he learned the routine. Rafiki was found wandering the streets and had likely been there for a while. Food and grooming were far removed. But it is clear he was once someone's pet. This beautiful boy walks great on a leash, is crate trained, and gets along well with other large dogs. Rafiki has not had much experience riding in cars and his behavior in a car needs work. He will chase cats and small dogs.  Rafiki's time on the streets have toughened him. He will growl to warn you if he doesn't want to do something. He will snarl and bite if you push him. Rafiki is going to take time and patience. Slow and steady is the only way with this boy. He will likely never be a boy that greets strangers with a friendly smile. His trust is earned, but entirely worth it! How do I act when I first meet new people? Cautious but friendly. Rafiki is not a dog that you can just approach with open arms. If you sit and wait he will come to you and nudge you gently. If he is approached without warning he will growl in fear. Other tips and tidbits: Rafiki is estimated at 2 years old.  House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Yes without exception What kind of home would be best for me? Oscar is looking for his first ever home! He has learned to like canine buddies and has never been alone so another happy, gregarious dog (probably best if it is a girl) would be ideal. Oscar will blossom with obedience training. We believe a home with older children (12+ yrs) would work well. Oscar needs consistency in his routine as he learns how to be a pet. Oscar has high energy and would love an active hiking, running or biking family. Oscar is accepting of other large dogs, but no smaller dogs or cats.   Oscar needs to learn to walk on a leash,  It’s a new skill.  Everything having to do with being a pet is a new skill but he’s learning quickly. What is my personality like? Oscar is a perfectly curious and happy poodle. Oscar will happily play a game of fetch, but he hasn't figured out yet to bring it back. He enjoys exploring new things and is ready to see the world. 'Let's go on an adventure' is Oscar's life motto. How do I act when I first meet new people? Oscar will look at you eagerly for attention. When you approach him, he will then shy away. Toys (see below) and treats are the way to Oscar's heart and opens up his sunny personality.  Other tips and tidbits: (11/21/15) Oscar has only known the life of a breeder kennel. Oscar's new family will need to introduce him to living in a home - teaching him things that make noises and beeps are safe, as well as normal dog obedience. We think Oscar will do wonderfully with an owner who uses positive reinforcement for training.  Toys - Oscar will shred and eat stuffed toys, rope bones etc. He will need toys which are heavy duty or be observed when he plays with soft toys. Soft toys and items will need to be kept out of his reach. This can cause an intestinal blockage or further damage. This is a stress behavior for him to release energy. With the right direction, Oscar can find other outlets for his energy.  House trained?  Oscar does keep his crate dry. This will be essential for Oscar to have a crate in his new as he learns good doggie manners. Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. Yes What kind of home would be best for me? We are seeking a home with a very experienced dog owner. Owen needs an experienced poodle owner who knows how to handle a strong-willed standard poodle. He would do best in an adult only home with no other dogs or 1 laid back female dog.  What is my personality like? Owen is a classic standard poodle! He is strong willed and needs a firm owner to guide him. Owen is very high energy and needs an owner who can keep up with him. We think he was on his own for a while and it made him even more independent than the breed normally is anyway.  He's tough, street smart and ready to take care of himself.  He will warm up but you are going to earn this one's trust.  How do I act when I first meet new people? Owen is very cautious about new people. He needs time to warm up. Once he knows you, he is excited to see his people! Other tips and tidbits: Owen's estimated birthday is 04/03/2008. Owen has great potential but can be picky about the people he allows in his life. He needs a patient owner who understands he needs time to open up. Owen will resource guard his food and toys.
