Story
DOB: 4/29/19 Approx Weight 35-40 Lbs. Adoption Fee: $200 includes 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness. PADDY HAS MEDICAL ISSUES - PLEASE READ IN FULL FROM PADDY'S VETERINARIAN: Paddy has two separate diseases going on, so I'll discuss them in parts. The first is hypertrophic osteodystrophy, or HOD. It's an inflammatory disease that affects rapidly growing bones in puppies, usually large breeds. It causes lameness of various degrees depending on the dog, with some leading to deformities (as with Paddy). It is generally in multiple joints in multiple legs, but one may be worse than another. Dogs may also have systemic symptoms, like fever, lethargy, anorexia, g.i. or respiratory symptoms. It resolves on it's own, but can relapse. Finally, we don't know for sure what causes it. Viruses (distemper), bacteria, fungi, over nutrition or over supplementation have been proposed. Prognosis is usually good, but worsens with multiple relapses. His second disease is masticatory myositis (the most likely cause of bilateral extrusion of the eyes). It is considered an autoimmune disease in dogs, and it may or may not be tied to the HOD. It can also cause pain on opening of the mouth, but doesn't have to. The treatment is immunosuppression, with steroids and sometimes azathioprine. Treatment should be a higher dose of prednisolone for 4-6 weeks until remission is achieved, then taper it slowly. Some dogs require lifelong therapy. Poor response can occur with too low a dosage of prednisolone. Also, chronic prednisolone use can lead to other side effects. Paddy has a soft thick curly, fluffy, shiny coat of fur. He has a very sweet temperament. Plays so well with all the other dogs and loves people. Is playful but also likes his down time of just being with the family. Aussie pups are usually very smart and he is. Paddy would be a great addition to any family! Paddy is a wonderful pup that may have a short life due to his conditions. If you have read this far into his profile and are interested in adopting him please make sure to write 'Paddycake' as his name when completing the application. Paddy has been neutered, wormed, microchipped, and given age appropriate vaccinations.
