Story
Paula is a 2-3 year old Beagle mix that weighs less than 30 pounds. Paula came to our rescue from a hoarding case in Kentucky. Upon arrival we quickly determined she was quite ill and she was rushed to the vet where exploratory surgery was scheduled and two foreign bodies were found. Most likely ingested due to starvation. Thankfully she has recovered and her surgery incision healed nicely. Paula is a sweet soul who needs a patient home that will allow her time to get to know her family. She enjoys the company of other dogs. She loves to explore her backyard and a privacy fence is prefered. Paula is currently penned trained in her foster home. Due to Paula's past she has developed an intense need to have water, this is most likely due to lack of access to water, we've determined this to be behavioral and she is on a medication to help her. Due to this behavior her access to outside for frequent potty trips is required or appropriate potty pads can be made available for her. Paula's start in life may have been rough, but her future is bright. She is a happy dog. She loves her sister Deena and they often play and wrestle together. All dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested negative (age 7 months and older) and microchipped. We do not ship or transport. A dog's adoption donation is $200. There is a $5 fee for credit/debit cards. If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, please fill out an online application here: www.heartlandsmallanimalrescue.org/canine-application.html

Story
Meet Fatima 35 lbs F Beagle-Mix 8 years old working on potty training Meet Fatima aka Fats. This little lady is looking for a dedicated forever family to make her feel safe and whole, maybe for the first time in her life. Fatima has not had the easiest of starts. She battles with separation anxiety, most likely due to being left in a shelter. She now finds the gre...atest comfort by being near her human. She has made tremendous strides during the short time she’s been in her foster home and all indications would suggest with a devoted family she will continue to thrive. Fatima will do best in a home where she is the only dog but does fine with her foster cat sibling. Fatima loves people though! The more time she has with her humans, the calmer she is and the more her true dog personality shines. As she continues to settle into her foster home, she has taken an interest in playing fetch, jumps up with a whole body shimmy when greeted and she loves walks. Fats does great on a leash, but her all time favorite thing is just lounging around relaxing with the family. In her ideal home, she would be with someone who is home most of the time, which provides her the security she needs. Fatima deserves to feel safe and loved just like any other dog. We wish for her to have the quality of life in her later years, that she should have had her entire life. Are you her fork in the road to her brighter future? All dogs are spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested negative (age 7 months and older) and microchipped. A senior dog's adoption fee is $100. There is a $5 fee for credit/debit cards. If you are interested in adopting one of our dogs, please fill out an online application here: www.heartlandsmallanimalrescue.org/canine-application.html

Story
Hello! My name is Levi. I am looking for a roommate that will understand I don’t really like a busy home. I am 6 years old and frankly visitors are overrated in my opinion. In fact if you insist on inviting someone over, I will need to go to my own safe quiet spot until I feel safe. As a distinguished gentleman you won’t have any puppy nonsense. I am potty trained, walk nicely on a leash and know that only toys are for chewing, Not your furniture. I love to snuggle and lay in the sun that streams in from the window. Cats and children erratic and I simply can’t abide them in my home. All dogs are spay/neutered, up to date on vacinations, heart worm negative. Adoption fee is $200.
