Sarah has been with us for over a year, because she doesn't "show well" when visitors meet her with a gate between them and Sarah. Sarah had a bad life in her previous home, and when she is confined in a kennel, she is fearful that she might not be able to escape a potential danger. So we try to have Sarah in our play yard when visitors come to meet her. She is a beautiful, smart and loving dog. She is a large size, and would need a fenced yard in her new adoptive home. Sarah is playful and congenial with children aged 12 or more and other dogs her own size, but she might be too active for very small children such as toddlers, because of her size. Sarah is a natural when it comes to being a "watch dog." She will let you know if anything is unusual. Sarah adores her favorite humans, and would be a devoted companion for an active family who enjoys outdoor activities! Hiya. My name is Oceana. I am a pretty lady around a year old and 55 pounds. I am a friendly girl who enjoys receiving love and affection. I might be a little scared when we first meet, but I just need a little time to feel comfortable. I arrived at the shelter as a stray, so unfortunately not much is known about me, like if I get along with animals or how I do with children. That`s okay though, because we can learn these things together and so much more! The shelter does offer a Cuddle Before You Commit program to ensure I am the right fit for you! Please remember, slow and proper introductions are always best to set me up for success.**Please apply on our website at www.indy.gov/activity/adopt-a-pet. Go to the website, click on the adoption application link, enter the information and hit submit. Once you have submitted your application please visit the shelter to speak with a member of our adoption staff. Bernie has the most beautiful hound dog fur we've ever seen. He is quite an energetic guy and loves to run in the yard. He seems to do fairly well with women, but can be nervous when meeting men. He is a big puppy and is still learning not to jump up, so small children would not be a good match for him. Bernie is very food motivated, so he should be a great candidate for training. He's currently working on sit, but is sure to pick up more quickly. He has gotten along with some dogs here at the shelter, but he does prefer the more easy going dogs that like to play chase.
