Story
Animal Profile: NO LONGER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS Fiona is a 4 month old, 15 lb Whippet mix who joined us from our partner Kauai Humane Society on 3/26. The shelter reports she is shy, timid, and on the skinny side. She is great with her siblings and does interact with the shelter staff. Fiona will benefit from a resident dog in the foster home to show her the ropes. More info to come as we get to know her.  Seattle Foster Update: Fiona is doing well. She is underweight but is eating well and hopefully she will get to a healthier weight soon. She is starting to wag her tail when she sees me or my sons and is happy to let us pet in her crate. She has been on a walk with my older dogs which was great because she eagerly follows them. Without them on the walk she doesn't seem to know what to do so we have been taking it very slowly in the backyard with her on leash.  When introduced to my older dogs she did great, no barking or aggressive behavior, just sniffing. She also did fine with her bath and seemed to enjoy being toweled dry. She has a blanket in her crate that she likes to burrow in. She is just settling in, so her personality will continue to blossom! &#226&#128&#139Seattle Foster Update : Fiona is beginning to come out of her shell and really benefits from having a confident gentle dog show her the ropes. She needs a home with a doggie companion. Adoption Info:  Adoption fee is $500, which includes spay/neuter, current rabies/DAPPV/bordetella vaccinations, microchip, health certificate, heartworm test, and flight from Hawaii. All adoption fees are donations to a Washington non-profit corporation and all donations go to benefit the animals in our rescue.  Animal History:  This dog was transferred from our Kauai Humane Society rescue partner (Arrival Date Thursday 3/26). This dog will be available for adoption in Seattle once evaluated. Apply online at www.DogGoneSeattle.org

Story
Animal Profile:  Elka is an estimated 3-year-old, 30 lb female Whippet from Hawaii. The shelter says " Elka is a timid but lovable little girl. She adores people and wants to be close to her handlers at all times. She can be a little uncertain of dogs at times, but seems curious about them. She will definitely benefit from the company of polite but outgoing dogs to show her the basics of dog interaction and to build her confidence."  Seattle Foster Update: Elka is still settling into her foster home and is very shy when meeting new people. We're looking for a calm, quiet forever home for her with a canine companion and without young children. She is still working on basic training but does well in her crate. More updates to come as we learn more about her personality. Apply online at www.DogGoneSeattle.org Animal History: This dog was transferred from our Kauai Humane Society rescue partner (Arrival Date Thurs 2/20). Story
Animal Profile:  Rocket is a 2 year old male Whippet/Pointer mix and is about 31 lbs.He is an active dog that needs space to move.  His activity can overwhelm other dogs and he doesn't like it when they try to correct him. He will listen to verbal correction from his handlers. He likes having his own space in the shelter kennels but he does walk nicely on a leash with other dogs .  We will continue to update his profile as we can get to know him.  Seattle Foster Update: Rocket is settling in well. It seems like most experiences are new to him, so he is tentative, but he’s warmed up to me and my place. He now weighs 36 lbs and I suspect he’ll continue to gain weight. He doesn't seem to get along with cats. On walks he alternates between being afraid and walking very close to me, and being excited and darting back and forth across the sidewalk. He greets other dogs nicely, and doesn’t seem interested in small children. He hasn't had much interaction with children yet, so will update when he does. I have not heard him bark and he does fine in the crate. He doesn’t really snuggle or get on furniture, but loves following me around the house, laying at the foot of my bed, and lots of petting. This might change over time as he gets more used to his surroundings. So far he seems pretty low energy, likes to lounge, needs long walks. We are working on potty training. He did fine on the one car ride we’ve been on. He wanted to be in the front observing everything. And he did fine when I gave him a bath.Overall Rocket is curious, attentive, gentle, submissive and tentative of new people, places and experiences. He may become less tentative as he becomes more acclimated. Animal History:  This dog was transferred from our Kauai Humane Society rescue partner (Arrival Date Thursday 3/19). Story
Animal Profile: Mahogany is an estimated 1.5 year old, 30 lb whippet hound mix who is active and friendly and loves being around people and other dogs. He is still a puppy and could use some work on manners, but he's social and affectionate and will do great in an active home. He arrived from Hawaii on 3/27 and we will update his profile as we get to know him. Seattle Foster Update: This gentle giraffe is the sweetest pup! It’s taking him some time to get used to domestic life, but he is slowly getting the hang of it. He has a lot of energy and minimal training (maybe no training!), but he does listen and seems to be a fast learner -- especially with lots of treats (he is very food motivated). He hasn’t had any accidents in the house a nd is already catching on to “sit.” Now we're working on NO and DOWN. He learns a lot by watching our resident dog. Crate training is going really well, he's working on “kenneling up” on command, and he's been choosing to relax in his crate on his own more frequently (not for long, but it’s definitely his safe space). So far he isn't very interested in toys, and gets startled by anything with a squeaker. He is incredibly friendly and trusting to all people and dogs so far. He and our resident dog are starting to play a little, but Mahogany is a bit clumsy and doesn't have much body awareness. We're working on helping him develop a gentler play style and to be less mouthy. Apartment life may not be the best option as he seems to need more space. Mahogany definitely has hound in him -- his nose is almost always on the ground. We are working on leash training. For as much as he zig zags and sniffs around, he doesn’t pull hard towards an area of interest much and he listens when you guide him away to keep walking. Surprisingly for how much he sniffs around, he doesn’t seem to have a strong prey drive (he has not tried to chase after any bird or squirrel). And both outside and in our apartment, he has not tried to pick up, eat, or chew anything that we haven’t given him. He doesn’t love the car, but he does not get car sick or seem overly anxious. Mostly he just can't stay still! He’s also pretty clumsy, so he really struggles to keep his balance in the car. Vehicles seem to startle him outside on walks, especially at night or if they are a loud truck, but he doesn’t show signs that he’s too scared. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Steve McQueen  a very cautious and shy fellow who has been passed from one shelter to another. As a Black dog, he has been overlooked at both the califorbnia shelter he was dumped at and the Kitsap Shelter we transferred him from.  Black dogs are almost always put down in the shelters, as people don't really see them and just walk on by. Kitsap transferred Steve to us to give him the best chance at finding his family. Steve is already happier to be free from a cage, have other dogs to interact with and a huge yard to run and stretch his long legs. He is very timid yet and we spend time holding and loving him to help him relax.  Steve needs a Child-free home and a fenced yard as he currently is a bolting risk due to not understanding why he keeps getting passed from place to place. Steve will need dog savvy adopters whio are patient and will work with Steve. We think once he gets settled in a real home and has daily one on one interactions he will start to coe around. he will do best to have 1-2 very friendly small dogs to develop a bond with as they will also mentor him and help him adjust. Steve is approximately 2 years of age, neutered, microchipped and completely vaccinated. he had his first bath recently and loves being clean, he ran for hours in joy afterwards. Steve will not yet willing seek out attention, but he is curious and follows us around the rescue. If he is resting inside a crate, he will let me get down on the floor and pet him. Steve just needs adopters who will help him to re-build his self-confidence. To apply to adopt Steve, please have a secure fenced yard for him to exercise and potty (he cannot leash walk until he rebuilds confidence and learns how) and time and commitment to spend with a dog who needs extra love and attention and have 1-2 small buddies for him.  http://rompinpawsrescue.rescuegroups.org/forms/ Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.
