Story
Jordan is littermate to Gabby, Riley, Stormy and Bear. She is a mal x husky mix, and turned 2 years old in December. Like her siblings, she is in need of socialization, though is a bit more shy than the others. Jordan would do best with another male dog companion as being around other dogs gives her support with things that can cause her to be nervous. She has absolutely blossomed and has a great time playing with the other dogs at day care and the complete clown that she is has been exposed. She is an extraordinary escape artist and should not be left outside unattended. Jordan does have a very high prey drive so no cats or toy/small dog breeds. Poor Diesel was thin and sick in a downstate pound when we learned about him. Our wonderful volunteers sprung into action and got him safely to IAMRA. Poor fellow is dirty, thin, and heartworm positive ;-( We can fix the dirty and thin part quickly, but Diesel will have to go through heartworm treatment to make him well. Donations for his treatment are much appreciated! If you are interested in this dog, or any of our other dogs, please go to www.iamra.org and fill out an online application. Story
Handsome Dylan was returned to us in July 2017. He is one of malamute Asha’s puppies born nine years ago. He is a well mannered boy, housebroken and crate trained, and does well with most dogs that respect him. Dylan has many trust issues and has blossomed under Erin and Dan's care, and has decided being with them is the best place for him to stay. Sanctuary Sweethearts at IAMRA are dogs that for various reasons – usually old age or extreme medical needs, or both - are deemed unadoptable. So IAMRA will provide them with their forever homes. We locate the appropriate “furever foster” home for them, and provide for ALL of their needs, from special food, meds, supplements, and vet visits, to toys and chews and treats and anything else they need to make their twilight as perfect as can be. This of course can be quite expensive. A bag of prescription or special food alone can be nearly $100. And all of our Sanctuary sweeties need extra vet visits – and almost always extra treatments and meds for what ails them. Most if not all are on special supplements, for joint care, liver or kidney support – whatever each individual dog needs. Anyone who has had an old dog, knows how expenses can climb in their twilight years. We’ve made a promise to take care of these special senior souls – most have had not so great lives until coming to us. So it is important that they not only know love and kindness, but also know physical comfort in their old age. Please consider helping to sponsor one of our Sanctuary Sweethearts, or make a one time donation to help with their care. Many thanks to all who help these sweet old souls!
