Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Name: Leilana DOB: 11/24/15 Weight: 60 lbs Adoption Fee: 375.00 Hi everyone, my name is Leilana but I actually go by Peppermint instead! I recently came here to find a new life in Minnesota, all the way from Texas! I'm an absolute snuggle bug that loves all humans and is happy as can be with my person by my side.    I'm an active girl that likes to go on adventures and spend time outside with my people! I especially enjoy going for hikes in the woods where I can explore all the smells of the great outdoors. I also love to run and will gladly join you on a daily walk, then curl up on the couch for more cuddles when we return home. I'm still perfecting my leash manners but with continued work will have it down in no time at all! I am extremely treat motivated and eager to please which makes teaching me new things a breeze! I've already been working on sit and come, when my name is called. I live with a couple cats in my foster home and am getting more and more comfortable with them. I'm still working on having more self-control and discipline as sometimes I still get overly interested in them. I'd likely enjoy a doggy friend to play with, as I get excited when I see other canines while out on a walk. Since I don't live with any canine friends at the moment, I will need slow introductions to assure a successful friendship! I'm known to be a bit of a chewer, providing me with plenty of toys will help direct my chewing to appropriate objects. I get very invested in my toys and have given a growl when as people walk by while I'm playing. A home with older children who will respect my space and be in tune with my cues would be best. I have some kennel anxiety from my past, as I spent most of my time kenneled. I will cry and whimper at first but do eventually settle down, a kong to keep me occupied definitely helps too. Ideally, I would prefer a home with a family member that can be home with me during the day. I do eat my meals in the kennel and do well with it! I'd really like a home where I can sleep in the bed with my people and cuddle all through the night.   I'd love to find an active family that will take me on all kinds of adventures, I'm even the perfect copilot! I can't wait to meet the family of my dreams and have somewhere to officially call home! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Name: Sofie Weight: 83 Adoption Fee: $125 Hello friends, my name is Sofie and I'm the biggest love bug you'll ever meet! I joined Ruff Start Rescue after ending up alone and without a family, making much of my past life a mystery. It is believed that I had a litter of puppies in the past, so naturally I display many loving motherly instincts. I'm a huge couch potato and spend most of my days lounging around the house, I promise I'm not much work at all! I absolutely love being near my people, especially the ones that give me lots of attention! I adapt to new environments and people with complete ease, I'm just a happy, laid-back, friendly girl.       My favorite pastime is playing fetch, with a well deserved nap right afterwards of course! I have great manners which is a valuable trait for a gal my size! I know "take it nice", when receiving treats. I also know "sit" and am very excited to keep learning more tricks, I'm a smart girl afterall. I am fully potty trained and will even let you know when it's time to go out. I'm not a fan of the kennel but do great gated off in a room instead. I am a very strong girl and am working on walking nicely on the leash, I'm catching on very quickly already and do best with a gentle leader. I'm also still getting used to different things around the house, like the vacuum, shovels, etc. and can be quite reactive to them, I will need a family that is committed to helping me overcome these fears. Due to my large size I may easily knock small children over, a home without young kids would be best for me. I love my people so much that I have decided I would like a home where I don't have to share the people with other canine or feline friends. I promise to give you lots of extra love to make up for it though:)   I can't wait to start my new forever with a family of my own to love! Come on out and say hello, we are sure to be the best of friends in no time! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Name: Jelly Beaners DOB:  1/4/18 Weight: 40 lbs Adoption Fee: $125    Hello!  My name is Jelly Beaners but my foster mom calls me Beans!  You can call me whatever you want, as long as you're waving!  I am deaf so I react to hand and arm gestures instead of words!  My foster mom can show you what they are, they're easy!  I don't use light or vibration, someone else tried that on me and I got really bad obsessive compulsive behaviors from it, but my foster mom cured me right away and I have not relapsed in almost a year! She says I'm the easiest deaf dog she's ever fostered and she has experience with deaf dogs!     I guess it's really a bonus that I don't have any separation anxiety at all and I'm really good in my kennel!  This is because I might not always care where my foster mom is!  That is why i need a fenced in yard.  If i got loose on my leash I think I'd rather run and explore things than make sure I stuck close to my family.  I looove my family though!  I love to cuddle and get pets and I am potty trained!     I really love dog friends but they don't always have as much energy as me so it can be a challenge! Sometimes i respect their space and sometimes I'm soo excited I can't help myself!!  I think cats are really boring when they lay around like my foster siblings!  I think they are really FUN to chase when they run from me, so I think I might have better luck if there are no cats in my new home, just to be safe!  I do like kids, but its easy for young ones to forget how to keep me safe, so I would do best with older kids.   I rarely ever bark, but when I do it either sounds normal or it sounds like a cool screaming dinosaur!  Since its so infrequent you'll probably only hear it when something REALLY awesome happens!     If you have questions or are interested in me, please fill out an adoption application at www.ruffstartrescue.org. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.The breeds of our dogs and cats are a 'best guess.' We often do not know what mix they are and have to base it on what we think they look like, and base it on breeds often found in the area they came from. Most of our dogs who have gotten DNA tests done are 4-10 breeds mixed together. Because their breed mix is a guess we cannot guarantee a 'full grown size' of many of our younger animals.Interested in adopting me? Story
Hi there, I’m Bob. Foster mama calls me Bobby but she also calls me Bobber, Robby, Robert, Roberto, Bobster, Bobosso…the list goes on and on. I don’t care, I love everything she calls me because I really love my people. And I equally love strangers - I’ll likely roll right over and shamelessly ask for a belly rub from anyone who’ll pay attention to me! An average day for me goes something like this: I roll out of (your) bed where I’ve spent the night sleeping soundly, quiet as a mouse. I’m excited to start a new day by running out to potty then screaming back inside because it’s BREAKFAST time! After breakfast I bee-line for the couch where I cozy up for a morning nap while foster parents get ready for work. Then they say it’s “kennel time” and as much as I hate those words, I trot off to my kennel where I spend the day until they get home. When the foster parents get home, I can hardly contain myself, I’m so excited! I bark and dance to come out of my kennel and I BOLT like a rocket outta there. Then I bark and bounce, run around and jump, and I get a little nippy - you’ll have to be aware of this and work on it with me, sorry. I’m just so excited to be out that I can't help myself. My “distaste” for the kennel comes from my past: last year I was diagnosed with heart worm and had to spend 4 long months on strict kennel rest to limit my activity. It was horrible, I hated it, and developed a little anxiety for the kennel. Now, on my way to 100% heart worm free (yay!), I’ve been working really hard on kennel training again - and making great progress! Back to my day: I usually get a Kong to work out my energy, then maybe a walk, DINNER time, and then spend the evening playing with my foster dog sisters and some toys. I'll snuggle on the couch until bed time, then run to be the first one in (your) bed (Don’t even consider adopting me if you don’t want to sleep with me - snuggling with my humans is the best part of life, period). I live with two dogs and I love them. We wrestle, play chase in the snow, share toys nicely, and snuggle up when it’s time to relax. I can be a little overzealous in meeting new dogs, so intros need to be done slowly, but I’m happy and silly and playful and adapt quickly with dogs my size. I might be a little rough-and-tumble for smaller dogs…I’m not all that graceful. I’ve met a cat once and wasn’t too interested, but it’s been while and I’d have to meet one again to see if I can control my excitement around them. Kids are fun too, though again, I’m clumsy and might knock the little ones over! I’m currently taking Obedience Level 1 and learning to focus and cope with excitement in an appropriate way and improving those skills every day. I’m young and excitable and I’ve still got some “puppy” in me; I can get into mischief sometimes; but overall I’m really easy to live with. I adjust well to almost any home, I'm a good listener, I'm an easy walker, and I love car rides. So, after growing up on the streets and in a shelter in Texas, moving across the country, surviving heart worm, and living in rescue for six months, I’m ready to settle into a forever home and become someone’s can’t-live-without BFF. If you’re “the one,” you’ll foster* me until my last heart worm test in June, then we’ll officially become a family. Follow me on Instagram @adopt_bob and see more of my day to day or to reach out and ask me questions. Then, once you decide that I'm your soul dog, apply to adopt me! *Bob needs one final negative heartworm test to complete his treatment. He's had one negative result already and is currently happy, healthy and under no restrictions! As Bob's foster-to-adopt, Save-a-Bull covers all his expenses and vet care until he officially becomes yours.   Bob is sponsored by Loni S. and by GrimmSpeed If you'd like to sponsor a dog, please click here.
