Story
Charlie is an active almost 6(ish) year old dog who loves everyone he meets! We got him from my husband's father about 4 years ago and feel it is time for him to find a forever home with a family who does not have to move so often (military) and has more time to exercise him everyday. He is great with kids (we have 2 toddlers) and other dogs and definitely loves to run. We've been told that charlie is an Australian shepherd-Border Collie mix, but he looks like he may have some lab in him as well, since he has shorter hair. He is a very sweet 60lb lap dog and will make a great addition to an active family!

Story
This is a courtesy list  for an individual or group seeking a new home for Faith.  Faith is not part of the PAWS program. If you are interested in Faith, please complete the online application which can be found at kcpaws.petfinder.com and the application will be forwarded to the group or individual responsible for this family pet. Faith is a beautiful sweet Aussie mix girl around 6 years in age.   Faith is quite shy at first and does take a bit of time to warm up to someone new, but once she does she's very sweet and loves to have her belly rubbed. We consider Faith to be special needs because she does not walk on a leash. We are unsure what has transpired in her past but any tugging at her neck or collar or even the presence of a leash coming her way terrifies her. Needless to say a fenced yard will be MANDATORY for Faith.   Faith really is no trouble at all, she is low key and will lounge with you all day on her cushion or the couch. She is not destructive and appears to be housebroken (once she learns the new routine). Faith does get along fine with other dogs like most Aussies can be a bit bossy at times.  She would do best in a home with older children 10 and up.

Story
DOB:  4/29/19                            Approx Weight 35-40 Lbs. Adoption Fee: $200 includes 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness. PADDY HAS MEDICAL ISSUES - PLEASE READ IN FULL FROM PADDY'S VETERINARIAN: Paddy has two separate diseases going on, so I'll discuss them in parts.   The first is hypertrophic osteodystrophy, or HOD. It's an inflammatory disease that affects rapidly growing bones in puppies, usually large breeds. It causes lameness of various degrees depending on the dog, with some leading to deformities (as with Paddy). It is generally in multiple joints in multiple legs, but one may be worse than another. Dogs may also have systemic symptoms, like fever, lethargy, anorexia, g.i. or respiratory symptoms. It resolves on it's own, but can relapse. Finally, we don't know for sure what causes it. Viruses (distemper), bacteria, fungi, over nutrition or over supplementation have been proposed. Prognosis is usually good, but worsens with multiple relapses.   His second disease is masticatory myositis (the most likely cause of bilateral extrusion of the eyes). It is considered an autoimmune disease in dogs, and it may or may not be tied to the HOD. It can also cause pain on opening of the mouth, but doesn't have to. The treatment is immunosuppression, with steroids and sometimes azathioprine. Treatment should be a higher dose of prednisolone for 4-6 weeks until remission is achieved, then taper it slowly. Some dogs require lifelong therapy. Poor response can occur with too low a dosage of prednisolone. Also, chronic prednisolone use can lead to other side effects.  Paddy has a soft thick curly, fluffy, shiny coat of fur. He has a very sweet temperament. Plays so well with all the other dogs and loves people. Is playful but also likes his down time of just being with the family. Aussie pups are usually very smart and he is. Paddy would be a great addition to any family! Paddy is a wonderful pup that may have a short life due to his conditions.  If you have read this far into his profile and are interested in adopting him please make sure to write 'Paddycake' as his name when completing the application.   Paddy has been neutered, wormed, microchipped, and given age appropriate vaccinations. If you are interested in meeting/adopting one of them just fill out a application at www.furrykidsrefuge.org, click on the 'Adopt A Dog' icon and a dedicated volunteer will be in touch.  Furry Kids' Refuge is in need of good quality dog and puppy food with meat as the first ingredient.  You can drop off donations at our weekly adoption events at the Lee's Summit Petco (1860 NW Chipman Road, Lee's Summit, MO), Saturdays only from Noon to 4:00 p.m.  Donations are tax deductible as allowed by law.  Would you like to foster a Furry Kid? Furry Kids' Refuge will supply the food & vet care while you supply the basic house rules & love.......win-win for all!!  Just visit our website http://www.furrykidsrefuge.org/category/fostering/  for more information. Thanks for your support!

Story
He’s about 7 months old, Australian shepherd mix we think he’s mixed with German Shepard. He’s loving and playful just needs to learn to be potty trained he’ll go outside but doesn’t let us know somehow when he needs to go so he’s ended up going potty in his kennel a lot. He does know better. We would like him to go to a nice, loving family/person who is willing to take the time to work with him and give him as much attention and time that he needs. We think the previous owner was abusive because he is sketchy at first of any man. So you’ll have to move slow with him at first until he can gain trust in you. He doesn’t like fast movements regardless and he doesn’t like squeaky toys they scare him but he does like some cat toys and bones also tug of war ropes. I’m too sick to always be taking him for walks/outside I’m up all hours of the morning so I sleep all day and my friend works 45-50hours a week and isn’t home to play with him or deal with him besides on the weekends.
