Story
Barks and Meows Rescue introduces Copper. He is a Redtick Coonhound mix, estimated to be 6 years old. He weighs 57lbs and has a short hair coat. Copper was found as a stray. Copper is typical of his breed in that he is very loving and affectionate with other dogs and people. This breed tends to have separation anxiety so another resident canine will be required. He is very food motivated and loves to please making training quite easy. As he possesses a follow your nose trait, he will counter surf and get into things even though he is no longer an adolescent. Though this may be annoying to some, their endearing nature more than makes up for this so-called fault. Copper is quite spoiled in his foster home. He does get to sleep on his foster parent's bed with other dogs. He is a good boy on the bed and is no trouble at all. Copper is fed twice daily, with food measured out as he would eat literally if allowed until he was sick. The snow was new to Copper and he enjoys it very much, though he does need a coat in the winter. He loves to run and play with the other dogs and can be seen prancing through the snowdrifts in the yard. He enjoys chew toys and is crate trained for short periods. He does not like cats as he was not raised with them. He will always need to be on a leash when outside of a fully fenced area. He was a bit nervous with men with beards when he first arrived on transport. He is a hugger and a kisser. Copper is housebroken and requires routine to ensure he goes out regularly. The ideal home for Copper is one with a resident canine and a family where someone is home a lot of the time. He will need to be included in many activities with the family as hounds are participators, not spectators. The family must be prepared to never walk him off leash unless in a fully fenced area. This breed can climb trees to a minimum 6-foot wooden fence surrounding the entire backyard is a necessity. A fully fenced yard and a Veterinarian history of compliance are mandatory to apply for Copper. This fellow was heartworm positive and has been fully treated. He no longer has heartworm disease. Copper is neutered, 4 DX tested negative, fully vaccinated, has had bloodwork and a urinalysis all with negative results. He is also microchipped. Visit barksandmeows.ca for an online application.
