He needs lots of love and patience from an owner that has some experience with fearful dogs.  He can be more defiant than shy, though he does not bite. He doesn't hover in a corner either, he can act very normal until you want to touch him.  He loves other dogs and is very playful with them, but he doesn't trust people completely, he may run from them.  He does great on a leash and is potty trained and crate trained.  He absolutely needs another dog in his home to help him build confidence and to help him learn to trust humans.  He also needs a securely fenced yard as he is a high flight risk. If you're that person with the desire and skill set to help a fearful dog, he may be for you. There is pure sweetness within him for sure, but his past is stopping him from trusting completely.   Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends.  In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs. ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there***  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.  ADOPTION EVENTS:   Adoption events are updated as the foster home RSVP's to attend. She says that I am an amazing dog. What an endorsement! Since I’m a distinguished senior boy, I can be a little stubborn, so some patience with me will go a long way.  I do adore people and just hanging out. I especially love it when you talk to me that I wag my tail excitedly. The sound of your voice is music to my ears.  I am full of energy and I also enjoy children. I must say that I have not experienced a small "wild" child, but I have met a few 5-8 year olds and I was immediately enamored with them. My favorite thing to do is nap! I like to snuggle with my foster sister too. I LOVE toys and will get really crazy with a small, soft toy. At home, I prefer to be wherever my foster mom is. As long as I know where she is, I’m happy to do my own thing. Away from home, I am pretty nervous. I like to either sit right next to my foster mom or find a hiding spot. I am working on this, though! I’ve even started approaching strangers for pets, so I’m getting better. I’m around other smaller dogs in my foster home, but don’t really know much about larger dogs and I do not care for male dogs either unless they give me some space. I have growled and snapped at male dogs who get in my face. I do extremely well with female dogs, though.  I’m great with cats as well.   I do have chronic dry eye which requires some cleaning and application of an ointment, but I sit still like a good boy while it’s taken care of. I also have a heart murmur, but I don’t take anything for it and frankly it doesn’t slow me down, like I said before, I have bundles of energy. Thank you for stopping by to read about me. I am on the lookout for my very best furever home and I know it’s out there.  I have so much love to give in return for your love.   Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends.  In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. I also love to play and hide my stuffed toys and balls in my “house” then I will move them all around the rest of the house. I’m a bit of a foodie, if you will, as I like to eat almost anything, though I don’t have many teeth. I am currently being treated for some eye and ear issues. I have cataracts in one eye and a smaller one forming in the other eye. I do not require surgery, however,  I will just need a drop in that eye once a day for the rest of my life.   I can still see light and dark and shapes. I  see great out of my other eye.  I also have an ear infection. I don’t like that leash thing and this cold weather is for the birds! My foster mom puts a coat on me and I don’t like that either, but I love to explore outside. I have to sniff around and get the news of the day and eat snow, so I suppose I will need to succumb to the coat…by the way, my eating of the snow is just my way of making it disappear faster! My foster mom took me to the beauty parlor for my first time ever and I look absolutely beautiful and my stunning black coat is amazingly soft and shiny, as a matter of fact. I’m so stunning that I can’t help looking at myself in the mirror! I enjoy being the social  director at meet and greets. I circle constantly and greet each dog and human. I have not had much experience with those smaller humans or kitties and I’m working very hard at potty training; being on a good schedule will really help my progress.  I even know some commands such as "come", “go potty” and a command for 'outside'.  My foster mom will put me in this thing she calls a crate.  If I’m in there either with or near the resident doggie I’m fine, but if I’m in there alone, I will voice my displeasure and scratch at the crate. As for that leash thing, my body freezes whenever my foster mom puts it on me, but we’re working on it together as a team so I’m sure I will get it soon. My foster mom says that I’m “the sweetest,”  “incredibly loving and cuddly” and that “I just want to please”.  These are all very true, so now all I need is to find a patient person who will be my new family and love me unconditionally…I promise I will love you unconditionally too!   Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends.  In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe.
