Story
Bari is a beautiful 7 y/o boy. He has been in foster care for 3 1/2 years learning how to be a dog and trust humans and he has come such a long way! He was in foster care in Texas and them came up here in the early fall, to find his forever home. Sadly, he was in a group of 60 IGs from a puppy mill. He is looking for a patient and loving home who will accept him where he is and can help him potentially thrive even more! Bari is still a little wary of new humans but loves other dogs, small or gentle, large dogs and gets along with cats too. He enjoys his dog bed in the living room to hang with the pack or napping on the human bed with his foster siblings. He loves getting massages. He is not a jump in your lap and snuggle sort of iggy, but he does enjoy massages, and loves sitting next to you on the couch and getting petted. He is now enjoying sleeping in bed at night with his human and his foster pack but he does need to have access to his potty pads. He does walk well on the leash too but doesn't seem to particularly love taking walks Bari does not like to be picked up as this causes him a lot of stress. When visitors visit the home, he will approach quietly and sniff fingers to get to know them. In his previous foster home, he was house trained to use bells and supervised dog doors. He can use pee pads too. In his current foster home, he does very well with his potty training going out frequently during the day as his mom is not gone for a full work day. When foster mom leaves the home for a few hours, Bari is crated and does very well. He also has been gated in a secure area with his open crate and bed and with pee pads. Bari is on a very inexpensive anti-anxiety medication that has been decreased overtime. He does have food allergies/sensitivities but is easily managed by avoiding certain proteins/grains/legumes and is readily available. He can be fussy with eating so having a variety for him is key and he often does not want to eat first thing in the morning. He is usually eating three small meals a day. It is important to offer him food when he seems hungry (he will let you know) to keep his weight up as he is on the thin side. We would like someone who is home partime during the day to accomodate his eating habits. He does have a history of seizures but he has not had any since very early spring (march 2019). He is not on seizure medication. His forever home should be adult only and/or only the maturest of older teenagers. He should have a small dog or two or three, as he loves other dogs. For his safety, he will need a secure, fenced yard for potty time and play. He will need continued social rehabilitation in his new home and his people will need to be patient and gentle and have a quiet home. Someone who has experience with very timid/skittish dogs and/or puppy mill dogs would be fantastic as well as someone who is home at least part-time druring the day to help him continue to progress. Story
Buddy is a strong, sturdy boy at 16 pounds. We think he is around 12 years of age. He came to us an unclaimed stray from a shelter. He was extrememly thin and anemic but he is now healthy. He can be clumsy at times, especially on non-carpet surfaces. Though he won't be winning any agility contests, he has a lot of energy for an older boy, enjoys 2 mile walks and has never had an accident inside, Pretty amazing for an IG! This affectionate boy gets along with other dogs but is mostly independent. He loves to sit on his foster mom lap and snuggle. He would do fine as an only dog. He really likes to play with toys and is a funny little guy. He'll find the right smell in the grass and spend a good 10 minutes rolling around, get up and repeat. He is very treat motivated and is a smart boy learnings lots of new tricks. No need to spend lots of money on dog beds, this guy wants to be on your lap. He will do best in a home where someone is with him during the day at least part time as he doesn't love the crate but he will crate up on command. He does have decreased hearing so he can startle easily Because of this, a separate sleeping space is needed—he will need a home committed to crating him overnight or having him gated in a safe, secure area with his bed. He will need his home to be patient, loving and understanding and willing to continue to work with him on hand commands he has learned due to his decreased hearing (foster parents have worked with a certified behavior consultant) and provide stimuating activities for him (puzzle feeders, short training sessions, etc). He does needs a home without children. His Foster mom thinks he is quite a catch, but knows an opportunity where he wouldn't be crated a lot during the day is best for his future since he is crated overnight. Buddy was recently diagnosed with low thyroid and is now on a very inexpensive medication 2x daily (under $5 month). He is also taking an anti-anxiety medication daily. This is a very inexpensive medication also. He has had a dental cleaning with a few extractions, blood panels done, vaccinations, heartworm and fecal tested since coming into rescue and is on a heartworm preventative. He is also microchipped.
