Shelter FAQs

Anchorage Animal Care and Control (AACC) is the open-admission animal shelter for the Municipality of Anchorage. We house a variety of animals up for adoption, from dogs and cats to hamsters, reptiles, birds and other pets. These animals are either surrendered to AACC by owners who can not care for them or are brought in as stray animals. AACC also provides domestic animal control services to the entire Municipality. Animal Control Officers (ACOs) respond to an average of 800 citizen requests for service per month regarding animal cruelty, animal bites, loose animals, barking dogs, injured animals, and other requests for service. For more information, please see our website: www.muni.org/animal.

Additional adoption info

Must be 18 years old or older to adopt. Must have landloard approval, if renting. Adoptions fees depend on what the animal needs (vaccinations, spay/neuter, etc.).
