OUR STORY:
RAGOM began as Retrieve a Golden of Minnesota in 1985, with one homeless Golden Retriever in a shelter whose time was up. Hank and Jane Nygaard took her in, had her spayed and vaccinated, and found her a loving forever family. After that, there was always another dog who needed a home.
Countless volunteers and generous donors have stepped up through the years with the energy, selflessness, love, and funds to rescue and rehome more than 8,500 Golden Retrievers and Golden Retriever mixes.
In 2017, RAGOM adopted a new name—Retrieve a Golden of the Midwest—to reflect our dedication to expand our rescue efforts from our original home state of Minnesota to include Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, and western Wisconsin.
OUR MISSION:
RAGOM rescues, fosters, and finds forever homes for Golden Retrievers and Golden mixes in need.
OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLES:
These principles represent the RAGOM culture:
Values: In all our actions, our primary values are passion and integrity.
Passion: We have a passion to find loving and forever homes for all Goldens and Golden mixes.
Integrity: We value integrity in our use of resources and in our interactions with volunteers, adopters, and donors. We are transparent in our decision-making and operate with each dog’s best interests in mind.
HOW WE CARE FOR DOGS:
Rescued dogs receive comprehensive medical care--including a complete veterinary exam, updated vaccinations, and a microchip--and each is spayed or neutered prior to adoption.
While in RAGOM’s care, dogs live as part of a family in loving foster homes where they are fed, groomed, socialized, and taught basic manners. Foster families provide ongoing temperament assessment for each dog to determine what qualities should be present in an ideal forever home, and then the dog is matched with an approved adoptive family.
