Maggy's Bully Rescue

Dog rescue in Sioux Falls, SD

MBR is a 501c3 non-profit rescue that is made up of a team of volunteers including the director and coordinators. We strive to save as many dogs as we can with the help of our supporters, we are foster and donation based so we really can't do it without you.
MBR rescues, rehomes we also rehabilitate those in need of the extra time. Some dogs come in and fear the human touch and affection, others fear the slightest sound of a door creaking. Some of our dogs come from death row and others from a breeding operation that was going to "throw out" the dog. Others dogs of ours come in as owner surrenders, for whatever reason the owner can no longer keep them, majority of those pups come in ready to go!
We take pride in placing the dogs in the best home possible for any one particular dog. We temperament test all of our dogs before adoption all at correct, positive and safe interaction. Children, other dogs and sometimes cats are tested for positive interactions, if we don't see the reactions that are ideal then it is marked us unable to share with that particular subject in the test. When the weather permits we try to test with bikes, skateboards, motorcycles, big crowds and loud noises to see reactions as well, we get a lot of bikers so we need to make sure the dog is not afraid.
We do our best to learn about the dogs in our care to help place them in forever, learning all their little quirks. When placed in a different home canines can react differently, for that reason every adopter needs to keep an open mind until they learn the dog behaviors themselves.
We firmly believe in decompression time for dogs at a minimum of two weeks, although some can require longer. Decompression is a way for the dog to get acclimated to the new environment and learn the schedule you have placed.

Additional adoption info

When adopting through MBR, there is a process that seems a mile long but with cooperation and consistency can go rather quickly. All adoptions start with our two application forms, one form being a contract/policies agreement and the other containing the screening portion of the application, requiring personal and vet references.
If and/or when approved through the application, a home check with an MBR representative will be conducted as well as a meet and greet. If all is approved, the dog is a match for the adoptive family, the paperwork is finalized.
Our adoption fees are as follows and go back to cover as much cost of the vetting as possible, please keep in mind our vetting is usually still more than the adoption fee received.
Puppies (12 months and under) $200
Adults(13 months+) are $165
All dogs adopted through MBR come spayed/neutered, vaccinated (rabies, distemper, parvovirus) and microchipped.
We also discuss the transition period and encoursge all adopters to attend at least one training class to get to know their dog and the dog learn from them. We go over the "two week shut down" and are always here to help guide along the way for the life of the dog. After adoption is only the introduction to the MBR family!
