My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Name: Evelyn

DOB: 3/24/2015

Weight: 10 lbs

Adoption Fee: 375.00

Hey everyone! My name is Eveyln. I came from Texas originally.

From her Texas Foster:

She most had had a rough time before she came to BARC because she had some scars that are now pretty much healed and had issues with her eyes, her eyelids were hairless leather thin and no eyelashes. She would sleep with her eyes open and that caused even more irritation on the poor girl. I had some left over ointment and drops from my dog’s eye surgery and she showed improvement within days, and is now even growing hair and eyelashes. And most importantly, she now sleeps with her eyes closed (yay).

She is a very shy little girl, takes a lot of PDA and reassurance to get her to not be scared of everything.
She is good on a leash and has been working on her confidence when going for walks (needs patience as she may get scared of other people or cars that pass by).

She is really good with other dogs, you can see her eagerness to play with them, but gets scared when they want to play with her. I have a big dog so that might had been a little intimidating for her. She was more comfortable with the small one.

She is potty trained and will let you know if she really has to go outside.

She LOVES being a lap dog. Since I have been working from home with the current situation, she pretty much spends the whole day on my lap.
She sleeps well at night on a dog bed by herself or on bed with the humans. Loves to cuddle, even when you move in the middle of the night, she will scoot over to be right next to you again.
She is really a sweet and loving girl.

She is picky with her treats, but once she finds the kind she likes, she goes crazy when you reach for that bag. Which helps with the reinforcement and confidence building.
Right now the only ones she will eat are little dry treats from a local dog bakery.

She needs a little more work with her confidence but I’m sure that with love and patience she will get there.

An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal.

More about this rescue

Mission Statement
Ruff Start Rescue is dedicated to saving the lives of at-risk animals. We also collaborate, communicate, and educate about the importance of animal rescue and welfare.

Vision Statement
We strive for a world where every companion animal has a safe and loving forever home.

Who We Are & How We Do It
We are a foster home-based Non-Profit 501c3, No-Kill dog and cat rescue based in Central Minnesota. We rescue stray, neglected, abandoned, and surrendered dogs and cats as well as ferrets, guinea pigs, rabbits, and other critters. We work very hard to place them in new loving homes.

We operate largely through volunteers and donations, relying on social media to stay connected. The more than 600 volunteers working with the rescue transport animals, serve as foster families, coordinate adoptions and much more. Without them and their countless hours of service, Ruff Start Rescue could not exist.

Foster-based by Choice
We do not have a shelter. We believe a home environment is far more desirable than a shelter or kennel. We rely exclusively on volunteers to provide foster homes for rescued pets until they find their forever homes.

We Can't Take Every Animal
Because we don’t have a shelter, we can only take a new animal when we have a vacant foster home for the pet to live in while they await their forever home. Sadly, we are not able to assist every animal that crosses our path. There are just too many dogs and cats out there that need help. We promise to do our very best to help find every pet his or her forever home.
