Story
Our dog is an absolute sweetheart and does not have an aggressive bone in his body, which makes him perfect for families with kids and other animals. He's about 6 1/2 years old and still acts like a sweet little puppy. Unfortunately, we have to rehome him because he runs off often. He's a beagle/hound mix, so his nose is in charge and leads him out of our yard and on to busy streets. Not even the invisible fence keeps him. He's a "working" dog, so he needs to run every day, otherwise he exhibits some anxiety in the form of peeing in the house. He would flourish in a loving home with a big fenced-in area where he could run and/or work all day. He knows his basic commands and is a ham when it comes to getting treats (he'll spin in the air and shake a paw). He also LOVES to cuddle and sit quietly for hours looking out the window. It is heartbreaking to think of rehoming this sweet boy, but we know he would be much happier living in a home with wide-open (and fenced) outdoor space.

Story
Lucy is an almost 4 yr old, very sweet girl! We adopted her as a puppy as soon as she was able. She has lived her entire life with a child in the home, a small toddler. She is very patient and gentle with all age children and adults. Plays well with other dogs and loves to run and chase. She's never been around cats. She has peaks of very high energy levels but also lounges and sleeps most of the day. Does very well with familiar visitors and gets very excited when people come in the door. She definitely has a beagle nose and loves to hunt squirrels and other yard animals. When we adopted her, she was home with a work from home adult. As jobs have transitioned after a few years, she must be left home alone during the day. A transition she has struggled with. She has barrier frustration (claustrophobia) and needs to be in a home where someone can be with her full time. She shows no signs of distress when family is home but becomes very anxious when family leaves. Overall, she is a joy!

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Cookie has been at the Mikey & Me kennels for the past year and he is finally ready to find his forever companion and home.   Cookie is about 4 years old, he weighs about 50 pounds, he has a loyal and loving personality, and he is neutered and up to date on all vet care. Cookie came to us with a fear of meeting new people and we now know that this was a result of never being trained or shown what acceptable behavior looks like. We tried, over time, to help him learn not to be afraid but we could never get past him wanting to lunge up in a self-protective manner when he encountered a person he had never met. Cookie loves his toys and he takes his food and treats very gently. In an effort to help Cookie further, we raised funds last summer (thanks to so many of you that contributed) to put him through an extensive, two week, in-house training program with Off Leash K9 Training in Lansing. Cookie responded very well to his trainer and he completed his training on December 7th. Since that time, I have had Cookie meet quite a few new people without incident and he is continuing his training regimen under our care. We are looking to place Cookie with a single person or couple that is looking for a well trained dog and that will continue working with him so he will be successful in his new home. When we locate the right situation for Cookie, I will provide his person with a complete training lesson along with his training equipment. We also have a lifetime guarantee through Off Leash K9 training and his adopter would be able to attend a training refresher there, if needed. Thank you for considering Cookie; please share his story if you can to help us find his forever home. He is such a sweet and loyal dog and he so very much deserves to be in a loving home and out of the kennel environment.   Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue microchips all dogs and cats before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the shoulder blades and are another form of identification should the animal get lost. The microchips are registered to  Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue. The adopter's information is added once the adoption is complete. The adopter is responsible for a $19.99/Year registration fee or a $69.00/Lifetime registration fee to change information.  Dogs and Cats still need to have collar with tags should they get lost. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.

Story
Hi! My name is Posie, and I need your help! I am about five years old and weigh around 30 pounds. I am a real sweetheart according to foster mom, and love people, stuffed animals, chasing squirrels and chipmunks, sleeping under the covers with you, and snuggling with my head on your lap. And snow! I love a good snowball! Oh yeah, and being a Beagle and all, I do love my treats too! Foster mom’s granddaughter, who is 4 years old, comes to visit often, and I just adore her and do so well with her. I am also housetrained; another big plus! So, why do I need your help? Well, I do have some work to do. Midwest BREW is not sure about my past (I was picked up as a stray), but whatever it was left me with some severe separation anxiety. I do not do well in a crate at all, and fight and chew until I can escape or tear the crate apart. In fact, my teeth were worn down and in terrible shape from trying to escape being crated. They have been fixed up now, but I still can’t stand to be left alone. If I am not crated, I panic, tear things up, and have a horrible time until my people come home. Foster Mom is working hard to help me with this: she is working with a behaviorist, and has found a crate that is escape proof yet still comfortable, for those times when you have to leave me. I don’t like it, but it is escape proof and I can’t hurt myself while in it. This crate will go with me to my new home! Because my anxiety is severe though, I will need a family where someone is home most of the time, or can take me to work with them. I am looking for a home with the time and patience to help me work through this awful anxiety. I am also a bit of an escape artist, and though I like walks, I can twist, jiggle, shake, and back out of almost any harness. Foster Mom has found one that works for me, and she says long walks and lots of exercise will really help me. I am a strong puller, but I can learn to do better with some practice! I get along great with the male dog that lives here, but I am not a fan of female dogs. I would be perfectly happy being an only dog; that way I get ALL the attention! And boy, do I love that attention. You are welcome to sit with me for hours and scratch my ears, rub my belly and give me kisses. To sum it all up, if you need a constant companion, who promises to adore you, I’m the girl for you! If you have some time and patience to work through separation anxiety with me, I’m the girl for you! If you want to laugh every day with my play time including critter chasing, snowball catching, and mad dashes with stuffed toys, I’m the girl for you! If you like the silky softness of petting Beagle ears, I’m the girl for you! I just need the right home, and I’m sure you are out there! Please contact Midwest BREW to find out more about me. NOTE: Dog may be located in any of our six volunteer states (WI, IL, IN, OH, PA, MI).
