Story
Meet Zephyr! Zephyr came to the Shelter as a stray so we do not have much history about her life outside the Shelter. She was originally timid when first arriving to the Shelter but has relaxed and staff have observed a more social side to this gal. She has met other dogs at the Shelter and enjoys playing with them. Zephyr can be tactile in play so any resident dogs are recommended to enjoy a rough and tumble, physical play style. Any resident dogs are required to meet at the Shelter prior to adoption. Zephyr will need above average mental and physical stimulation as she is a high energy dog. Adopters should anticipate committing to a positive reinforcement based training to work on life skills such as walking on leash, house training and thoughtful socialization with new people and animals. We do not have any history of Zephyr in a home with kids or cats.

Story
Meet Cow! This sweet fluffy, stocky guys is named after the Highland Cows that he has a resemblance to. Cow has been a charming boy since arriving at the Shelter. He enjoys meeting new people and exploring on walks with them. Cow has met other dogs at the Shelter and has solicited play. A home with another playful dog is likely a fit provided they meet at the Shelter prior to adoption. We do not have any history of Cow with cats or children.

Story
Brady is 40 pounds of fun! He's great with other dogs- loves to wrestle and chase. He's a great hiking companion and loves to go for walks. He's food motivated, and at 2 years old he's got a lot of energy to burn. He knows sit & down and sleeps quietly in a crate, but would benefit from further obedience training. He loves people. When not playing with the resident dog, he enjoys playing with his favorite squeaky toy.   Brady needs a very active home that will keep him physically and mentally busy. If your idea of a fun weekend is spending time exercising and being outdoors or training, Brady is ready to join you in your adventures! He LOVES the frisbee, has disc dog, agility, performance dog sport potential!   He'll do best with children over 12 and a cat-free home.  Please contact Diana at (510) 333-4420 or theperfectdogrescue@gmail.com or fill out the adoption application:  http://www.theperfectdog.org/TPDadoptapp.doc

Story
Archie is 1 year old 40lb neutered border collie mix who was rescued from the central valley with his sister (already adopted). He came to rescue feral, but over time, has learned the basics of house manners, crate training, loose leash walking, car rides. Archie is the perfect medium energy, playful but mellows out. He's good with other dogs, but prefers female dogs, and we do require him to go to a home with another, socially confident dog. He's good with cats too. He is still afraid of people though, so needs a quiet, adult only, and patient, gentle home (ideally house with yard, no apartments). If you're looking for a pal for your current dog and a dog to take on on-leash hikes, Archie would be perfect! Please contact Diana at (510) 333-4420 or theperfectdogrescue@gmail.com or fill out the adoption application:  http://www.theperfectdog.org/TPDadoptapp.doc

Story
Nina is an active 1.5yo 45lb border collie/german shepherd mix. She has a lot of personality and can be a total derp (tongue hanging out sideways and everything)! She's housebroken and crate trained, and walks amazing on the leash! She loves other dogs and is good with indoor cats. She is pretty high energy and enjoys going on hikes and playing with her canine siblings. She MUST go to a home where there is a resident confident adult medium-large dog (she worships the male german shepherd in her foster home but plays well with a young female dobie.. she's fine with small dogs but she's a bit too rambunctious for them). She has also discovered the comforts of the couch and loves to lay along the top and get petted while you watch movies. Because she can still be skittish with people though, she should NOT go to a home with children or apartment living (no exceptions!). She would do best in a gentle, quiet adult only home with another dog and a house with fenced yard. She has gained a lot of skills and confidence while in her foster home, but she is ready for the next chapter in her life with a new family that will continue to help her grow. Here is Nina’s story video: https://youtu.be/KxWGwurZVWk Please contact Diana at (510) 333-4420 or theperfectdogrescue@gmail.com or fill out the adoption application:  http://www.theperfectdog.org/TPDadoptapp.doc

Story
Despite being almost 10 years old, Bentley is a highly energetic dog. Loves to run and play all day long. Loves to chew. Loves company/people; doesn't like being alone. This is a VERY SMART DOG. He has learned to open doors, screen doors, gates, etc. Must be kept busy or he will get bored. Recently he has developed some mistrust of older men, acts somewhat aggressive if confronted with an older man while alone. (Best to introduce him to new people while you're around). A very friendly dog. He does occasionally get very excited/stressed. Loves to suck on a blanket to calm himself down.

Story
Hi There: My friend and her daughter are needing to re-home their dogs in order to continue to afford to live in Santa Cruz county. The cost of housing is skyrocketing and rentals have been more scarce. Having two dogs has proven to be an unscalable obstacle for a now single mom. The dogs are sisters and must stay together. I am helping my friend with re-homing, as you can imagine, it is so very difficult for them to choose between their family dogs and continuing to live in their community. They have been raised in a family home with plenty of backyard. They are cuddly and sweet, but will definitely let you know if a visitor or prowler is about. Brooklyn and Margot are great companions they enjoy taking walks and hikes with their family and do well on leash. They are good listeners, love to play fetch and will sit and lay down upon command.
