Story
Meet Cody! He’s a super sweet 4 year old Border Collie and weighs 60 pounds. He is very calm and likes to lay low most of the day, and he LOVES to snuggle on the couch! He can go in a crate if needed, but he would prefer to roam free. He is housebroken and doesn’t have any accidents inside. He loves both of his dog foster siblings, and we think he will do best in a home with other dogs to play with. He would love a house with a yard for him to run around and play in. He can be shy around new surroundings at first, but with some patience we know he will make a great addition to any family! He still needs a lot of time, patience, and love but we know he will make a great companion for someone! Our standard adoption fee is $295 cash or check and $300 credit card ($5 processing fee). It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Please email safehavendogsIL@yahoo.com for an application or additional details. Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed. Please consider becoming a foster home while you search for your new best friend. We need foster homes - pounds are overflowing with puppies and adult dogs that are at-risk and need help. We can only rescue as many as we have foster home commitments. Fostering is a rewarding experience for your family.

I AM IN FOSTER CARE! PLEASE FILL OUT OUR ADOPTION APPLICATION, ONCE PRE-APPROVED, GIVE US A CALL AND WE CAN SET UP AN APPOINTMENT FOR YOU TO MEET ME! I am from a hoarding situation. I need extra patience and time. I need to go to a quiet household, preferably with another dog. I am 39 lbs., 4 years old, and l am looking for my forever home. Adoption Donation: $300 All dogs are microchipped, neutered, current on all vaccines, heartworm tested and started on Tri Heart Plus; Vectra 3D. All household members and any dogs from the household need to be present at the time of the adoption. Our website is always kept 100% up to date with who is currently available. All new animals (40/week) are added to the site 2 weeks before their availability date to give you time to fill out your adoption application and get the family ready to come out to the shelter that day. As soon as animals are adopted, they are moved to the Adopted Pets page so if they are still listed on the Adoptable Dogs or Cats page, they are still available. So keep any eye on the site for any animals being added as available for adoption as new animals are added everyday! We would recommend if you haven’t done so already that you submit a general online adoption application with us so it is on file for when you are ready to come out and adopt. The adoption counselors will be able to show you many that would be a good fit for your family.  Please fill out an online application and we will give you a call as soon as we receive it. Story
Please visit Lindy Lou on our web page: https://www.mwbcr.org/all_dogs/lindy/ February 7, 2020: Hi! Lindy Lou here, checking in from the home of my foster mom and her border collie boy, Sam. I am having a wonderful time here, chewing up my toys, playing fetch and tug, doing “tricks for treats” each day with Sam and vegging out in my crate. As much as I enjoy my foster home, I would love to find a forever family to cuddle up and wrestle with! I need a good-sized, securely-fenced yard so I can run around like crazy each day, and a home with no dogs or maybe one average-sized dog. No cats, tiny dogs or other small pets, please. Otherwise, I am not fussy, especially when it comes to food. I will make sure that your floors are spanking clean, without a crumb in sight. Am I the dog for your family? I hope so. Contact Toni Antonetti, toni@prchicago.com for more information.

Story
Gizmo is settling well with my 3 dogs and cats. He knows how to sit, stay and give paw. We are going to work more on stay, come and down. He is very smart and wants to please. He likes to fetch, cuddle and lick your face. He is food motivated so training him is not difficult. It’s all about consistency. He does like to put his paws on the counter, so we are working on stopping that behavior. He follows me around in the house, curious to what I am doing. When we go to the park, he enjoys wandering and enjoying all the smells left behind. He seems to get along with any of the dogs, and will run around with some of them. Overall, he is a good boy. Maybe he can be a match for you! Please email me with any questions. feliciabanys@mac.com to see more please visit his page. https://www.mwbcr.org/all_dogs/gizmo/

Story
MEET MAGGIE!! Maggie is definitely a Border Collie (Mix), with traits typical of the breed. She’s a great watch dog, and is committed to her people. She’s VERY smart and a quick learner too. In spite of her neglectful and painful past, this precious girl always has a smile on her face. Maggie came to BAARK from a high kill shelter downstate, having been surrendered by her family after a kid in the family was hitting her, while she was eating and Maggie snapped back. The family decided it was easier to get rid of Maggie, a loyal family member, rather than teach the kids respect for the family pet. Maggie is a senior and it immediately became apparent to us, that she had had a tough and neglectful life. Maggie is 8-10 years old, about 32 lbs, is very alert, and sociable, but suffers from some arthritis. As such she walks a bit slow and requires joint supplements and pain meds. But she gets around fine on her own. Maggie loves being outside, observing her surroundings. She also enjoys car rides. An ideal home for Maggie is most definitely with a family who will love her unconditionally, give her the attention she deserves, and be patient with her. The family needs to be aware of her arthritis; a home with limited stairs is best. Maggie is fine with other dogs particularly males vs females. Given her past experience, an all adult household, or one with kids over the age of 12 years is best. A family with experience with the Border Collie breed is ideal. Maggie is up to date on all vaccinations, spayed and microchipped. She has been treated for heartworm which she had contracted during her neglectful past. Year-round heartworm preventative is absolutely essential for Maggie. If you are interested in providing this sweet and highly intelligent senior a forever home in which to spend her twilight years, please contact BAARK at BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895

Story
Meet Sanderson! This 50lb boy is a heeler / pit mix. A fantastic combo of working dog and cuddle bug! He was adopted from Safe Haven as a puppy and returned because the family didn't have the time to put in the training he needs. This handsome boy is Sanderson! A very smart boy! He knows sit, paw, lay down, kiss, and I’m sure a few more we haven’t discovered yet. He’s really good with his foster siblings and is pretty energetic. He sleeps peacefully through the night. He loves to play catch and zoom around the yard. After a long game of fetch Sanderson loves to curl up and be with his people! Sanderson is looking for a forever family. What does Sanderson's perfect family look like? Someone willing to give this boy the attention he deserves! Sanderson is smart and a herding dog. He sometimes tries to keep people "in order" with some nipping. He means no harm! He's just doing the job he was bred to do! Sanderson would love a home with a yard to run around in. Someone who understands that he has a lot of energy and can give him positive outlets to put his skills to use! If you're ready to meet Sanderson, fill out an application today! Our standard adoption fee is $295 cash or check and $300 credit card ($5 processing fee).
