Story
Caramel is an almost 5-year -old orange and white French Brittany. She is spayed, current on her vaccinations, heart-worm negative and fully house-trained. The ideal home would be calm, patient, and loving, with Brittany-experienced owners. Older, dog-savvy, children would be okay, but a home without children is also fine for her. Caramel can be quite the spitfire. Fortunately, her diminutive size makes handling her fairly easy. She is a good listener and even when chasing squirrels in the yard she rarely needs to be called more than twice before she comes to you. She will, however, quickly be back outside if she gets the chance. She is more likely to check out smells, respond to sounds, or play with the other dogs than lie by your feet, but she has moments where she wants to cuddle and at night she sleeps quietly on the bed next to you or in a dog bed in the bedroom if you prefer. Caramel must be in a home with a secure 6-foot, wooden fence that is clear of any objects that can be used for climbing (a reason a chain link fence also won’t work for her). She tends to be an opportunistic escape artist so security is paramount. She will need daily exercise outside the home and yard such as walks, runs, and/or hikes. In spite of her size she can really pull on the leash and she could use some one-on-one leash training as well as a front-attached walking harness. Caramel is crate trained but doesn’t really like being left in the crate for any length of time. It takes her a while to settle down and be quiet when riding in the car (she rides in a crate for safety at her foster home). Caramel is a bit prone to respond anxiously to new people, strange dogs, or unknown situations though she is also drawn to them. It is important to be gentle and supportive at these times and in general she will benefit from a home where there is no chaotic energy. She can be reactive when meeting dogs outside the home but in the home she adjusts fairly quickly to new dogs if she gets a chance to meet them slowly.
