"Ahem. Your attention, please. Peruse any collection of nursery rhymes to read tales of the cat, but begin with The Literary Cat. I am Pandora the cat, often referred to--by mice--as the enemy; however, I'm referred to--by men--as a most genial companion whose smile is an enigma much like the Mona Lisa or the Cheshire cat [Thackeray]. The author explains the origin of a "grin like a Cheshire cat: A painter of inn signs in Cheshire depicted lions--a common inn sign--with snarls so amiable that they were taken for smiles" [Thackeray]. I can be seen on window sills admiring birds and squirrels, or in trees where I've taken refuge from barking dogs, or on sofas surrounded by play mates and tv remotes. I often settle in to watch Animal Planet and Animal Cops--they are so courageous and resolute in their ability to aid their furry friends. The Literary Cat relates that the gods sent Pandora a box filled with unknown problems which she was forbidden to open and she opened it out of curiosity. When we bought our house, this cat was sitting on the porch. When he started getting skinnier, we realized the old owners of the house had been feeding him. My husband is severely allergic, and can’t spend more than a minute on our porch. We just got him neutered and vaccinated, but they discovered he’s FIV+. He needs to be the only cat or in a home with other FIV+ cats. Super sweet temperament.
