Story
Meet Fern, a delightful adult feline with a heart full of affection. Despite her cerebellar hypoplasia, Fern doesn't let anything slow her down. She's a bubbly spirit, brimming with love and playfulness. She enjoys a good game of chase the feather, and her cuddly nature makes her the perfect companion for cozy evenings. Fern's condition requires special care, but her sweet disposition more than makes up for it. Her infectious joy and resilience can brighten up any home. Fern would like a home where she is the only feline but would likely settle with a calm canine friend. She will require some modifications in her home to keep her safe when her wobbles get the best of her! A separate room with no hazards is a must. Ferns foster mom is more than happy to talk with potential adopters about the modifications Fern will require in the home.

Story
Mudskipper is a shy girl who hides for long periods of time. She is independent and and typically does her own thing. She is still learning to trust people and be confident around them and would do best with a home that can be patient and continue to work with making her comfortable. She would do best in a quiet and low commotion home. She seems to love playing with her toys, always rearranging her kennel every night while she plays. She has not yet been dog tested but would likely prefer a calm, quiet house without one. She has come from a home with other cats and might be comfortable and come out of her shell more with another one in the home. She would do best in a home with no children or quiet children 14+ due to her shy nature. Staff are still working with her to get to know her personality and help her blossom.

Story
Jiggy is an independent boy who likes to spend time doing his own thing. He does enjoy short sessions of having his head pet but this has to be on his own terms as he gets upset and overstimulated easily. He can be shy at first and may take a little while to adjust, but he has quickly come out of his shell since being in our care. Once settled, this boy is friendly and enjoys being around people. He likes to be present but not be bothered too much. A nice cat tree and/or scratch post would bring Jiggy lots of joy. He likes having a place to lounge out and has really enjoyed sitting in the window here, watching the world go by. He loves treats and toys! His favorite toys are little mouse toys. This boy is looking for a nice quiet home without much commotion where he can enjoy his senior years. He prefers fewer people in his life, ideally living with only 1 or 2 people would best suit his interests. Jiggy likes to spend time with adults and would enjoy a home that was child-free. He must be the only animal in the home.

Story
Mareep came to the shelter from an area with a colony of unsocialized cats. Staff could tell that although skittish and standoffish that with time, patience and work she would learn to trust humans and could be a good companion. A staff member took her home to foster and work with her in a more comfortable environment. She has done a wonderful job settling into a foster home and getting more comfortable with humans. She always approaches her foster mom and welcomes her into the room and even occasionally rubs up on her legs. She can still be shy and skittish of loud noises and commotion. She does enjoy being pet on the head with gentle pets, but can get overwhelmed with vigorous petting and can mouth when she gets overstimulated. She does not tolerate being picked up and prefers all four paws on the floor. She loves food and meal times and gets very excited. When she's comfortable and feels like nobody is watching she enjoys playing with her toys as well. Mareep is being fostered with other cats and does okay with the other foster cats in the room, but she can be a bit bossy and standoffish sometimes with them. We feel she would be happiest as the only cat in the home so she can be the queen of the castle without any hassle. Due to her skittish nature it is recommended that her new home has no dogs and older children 12+. Mareep is in foster care, if you are interested in adoption please contact the shelter to arrange for a date for her to be brought in for a meet and greet. Being a shy girl she likely won't show her true personality during a meet and greet, but her foster has lots of pictures and videos to show what she is like once she settles and gets know you.

Story
Bass is a skittish and shy boy looking for a calm, patient and low commotion home. He will have a hard time settling into a new environment and will need time to get comfortable. Bass came from a home environment where he had little to no contact with people for the majority of his life. Due to this he is still nervous and uneasy around people. Staff have been working on socializing Bass and his bonded family member Gourami. While being socialized Bass enjoys approaching and sitting near people. With time and a home committed to working with building a bond we believe he will enjoy gentle contact. He still does shy away from contact but will not turn down the opportunity for some treats! He is quite food motivated like Gourami. Sometimes Bass will even gently and cautiously take a treat right from someones hands. He is often seen spending his time lounging in the room, sometimes curled up with Gourami. When he thinks nobody is watching he even rolls around and plays with his toys. It will take some time to build a bond with both Bass and Gourami, but once they learn to trust someone they open up and enjoy the presence. Bass is looking for a home with no children or dogs.Bass and Gourami have a reduced adoption fee of $80 for them as a pair.

Story
Karen came into the care of HSHPE as a stray that was not claimed. She is uncomfortable with new people and will need a home that is willing to be patient and gain her trust while she settles in. Karen is most active at night and likes to come out and play with her feline friends. She will likely never be a lap cat but tolerates pets from those she trusts. Karen would make a wonderful companion to another cat in the home. She is not suited to a home with dogs or children (14+ years). Karen is looking for a nice quiet home that will let her settle in at her own pace.
