Joey is a 3 year old 60lb. Catahoula mix who was adopted from Operation Kindness almost 2 years ago. He loves to play with other dogs, but would do best with a dog who doesn't mind a lot of playtime. He can be a bit shy at first, but is protective of his owners once he warms up. Joey loves walks, belly rubs, taking baths, and sunning himself when the weather is nice. He is both house and crate-trained. We had a baby about a year ago and since she has become more mobile, Joey has been very wary around her and seems uncomfortable in her vicinity. We have made the difficult decision to find another home for him as we feel he would be much happier in a home without children.

Manchas is a four-year-old 60 pound Catahoula Leopard dog that was surrendered to the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 4/18. His original owners had rehomed him. He was then found as a stray. The shelter called the original microchip owners. They are working out of town and can no longer care for this big boy! He was surrendered through no fault of his own. He's a good boy...obviously capable of deep love. He is also well trained. He knows to sit command and offers his paw. I can't say he did it for treats though because he didn't like my treats! He chased balls but did not retrieve them. He had a strong pull to get out in the yard. As soon as he got out of the yard, he did his business. He's very active, exuberant, playful, well mannered, and friendly. He comes when you call him, and he tries to get up on your lap--all 60 pounds of him. He will need a big yard to romp in, but will also enjoy going for a run with his new owners. Then the rest the time he'd like to spend chilling with his new family.

Meet Valen! He is a 2 yr old male Catahoula Leopard Dog that weighs 51 lbs. He came into the Mesquite Animal Shelter on 4/29 as astray. He is a very handsome boy! He is not sure why he is at the shelter, but the more time we spend together, he comes out of his shell nicely! He enjoys being petted and loved on. He has some scars and scratches around his legs but they are healing and do not seem to bother him. As we walked about and through the shelter he stayed close and wasn't bothered by the other dogs barking at him. If you do have another dog in the home please ask the shelter for a dog test. He walks well on leash, takes treats gently and may be house trained. He has a gentle and loving soul as it's clear to see, and would make a great family companion. Having a secured backyard to investigate, then live indoors to cuddle close, watching tv with his loved one is what this boy deserves. Come meet Valen!

DeafEllie is a wonderful, beautiful and very smart dog. She gets along with other dogs very well, but can be a handful around smaller dogs. She does not know here own size, but dogs her size are just fine. She does not have a bad bone in her body. She loves chewing on her kong, earning her treats. She is leash trained and knows several hand signals. We are still working with her on checking in regularly. She has not been around kids, but cannot imagine that will be an issue with her temperament. Ellie is deaf and has received professional training from On the Ball K9 Training in Denton, TX. She will stay on your side but can get distracted. She will sit and stay when told and is pretty content on her "place" as long as she has some entertainment. She is crate trained and sleeps in a crate. Her favorite activity is going on long walks, but even more, she will play fetch with you until she absolutely wears herself out. And then, once you think she has had enough, she is ready for some more. She loves fetching tennis balls and ropes throws...and will bring them back to you almost all of the time, unless she gets distracted. She will then sit when you tell her and release the toy for another round. Ellie was born mid-2015 and weighs approx 90 pounds.

NOTES FROM THE FOSTER FAMILY: Meet Blue...He is a sweet catahoula mix boy about 67 lbs and estimated DOB is 3-24-19. He came to us as a surrender where he was in a very FULL shelter. ESTIMATED DOB: 3-24-2019 Click the 'Ask About' button or click 'Tails from the Heart' link to see all of our available dogs. Our application is currently not online, they are sent via email once your inquiry is submitted. Upcoming Tails from the Heart Meet and Greet events. With everything going on currently with COVID-19, we have canceled our public meet and greets until further notice. If you are interested in meeting any of our pets, please email us and we can get you an application. We can then review and send to the foster family. We may cancel our home visits as well but if you could attach photos of your yard and one or two of your home that would be great. In lieu of the visit this would allow us to meet you and allow you to meet the pet and conduct a possible adoption either outside your home or at a public place where safe distancing can occur.

We've been trying to find another home for him but haven't had any success so far. We believe he is a 3-4 year old Rhodesian ridge back / Lab mix. He is around 80 lbs, neutered, up to date on all his shots and micro chipped. He is very playful and loving and enjoys running around outside but mostly wants to be wherever you are, even if that's in the bathroom. He loves riding in the car and meeting new people. We haven't had many children around him to see if he is good with them because he is quite strong and we worry that he might play too roughly and accidentally hurt them. He is good with other dogs, but since we don not have any cats we're not sure how he is around them. He is not food aggressive and we are sill working on some basic commands.
