Story
Whenever a sweet and engaging Cavalier or Terrier mix gets into an urgent situation, Farfel's rescuers like to help. We find that dogs of these breed mixes are very loving, super- smart (considered by many to be among the most intelligent and fun-loving mixes available today) and make loyal and very sweet family companions.
Dixie is a cuddly and very loving Cavalier King Charles Spaniel with a bit of Tibetan Terrier in the mix. The vets believe Dixie to be about 2.5 - 3 years old and 19 lbs...she is the perfect age and weight for fun hikes and backyard play..and then at day's end, a perfect size to cuddle close all night long).
Dixie (once comfortable in her environment) is very puppyish in her enthusiasm for all people that are kind to her. She has a love of life and positive attitude that warms the heart. After all, his very deserving girl has never had a loving and nurturing family to call her own. She has been a victim of circumstance in her life...Farfel's Rescue is committed to changing this circumstance for this dog that has so much to offer a committed family.
Rescue dogs can initially be a bit shy or nervous..this is expected in light of the stresses of rehoming. When an adopting family is sensitive to the challenges of change for these dog's, the transition is far easier.
A home with a very loving and nurturing family that understands that acclimation to a new home and family takes time would be perfect for our beautiful girl. Socialization, pure love and belly rubs are a gift to a dog that is undergoing a life change. Given the time and space, these dogs shine. Dixie is one of these pups that is a blank slate just waiting for the commitment of a great family. Her love will know no bounds as she becomes a best friend and very loyal companion.
Farfel's Rescue has found over time (we've rescued more than 3,500 dogs over 15 years of rescue) that families that attend level 1 group training classes or address individual challenges at home with one of our approved positive reinforcement/force free trainers keep their dogs for life. There is a bonding that occurs through the training process that can't be duplicated. It also teaches behaviors that enable a dog to go out into the world with excellent manners that create a very respectful relationship between dogs and their humans. It is for all these reasons that Farfel's isn't willing to adopt to a family that doesn't create this training relationship. As part of our adoption process, we request a receipt for payment from one of our suggested trainers for a session of level 1 obedience training (or at-home training where appropriate). Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved positive reinforcement/ force-free trainers in your area.
We envision very active, dog-loving retirees as a perfect home for our sweet girl. She would be thrilled with the time spent and pure love shared by this age group. Dixie would also do well with a younger family (older kids only please) that works either part-time or from home to love this wonderful dog up throughout the day. She will thrive with the fun and special kind of nurturing that a dog-crazy family provides. We feel that Dixie is too sensitive to spend long hours alone while her people work full-time outside of the home.
We've received the following note from Dixie's foster family: Dixie is a wonderful, very sweet and smart young lady. She is completely house/crate trained and very respectful of my home. She quickly learned how to sit, lie down, drop, and let go (she's super-smart and loved every second of learning these skills). Dixie looks forward to her walks and we walk every day. She would be over the moon thrilled with a family that enjoys hiking the trails and paths of Colorado and engages regularly in outdoor fun (camping, snowshoeing and jogging would also be perfect activities for Dixie!)
While Dixie gets along well with other dogs when outside of the home, she has become dominant with her foster's 11 year old, very submissive Border Collie. Farfel's therefore will only consider single-dog households for Dixie. There's no question that she will shine when she receives individualized love and attention from her family.
Dixie has a stunning coat (with the cutest markings ever!) that is currently healthy and silky soft. She will require a lifelong commitment to sudsy baths/grooming and great nutrition. 5 star food and a salmon oil supplement is a great lifelong regimen for coat care as well as longevity.
Dixie is in a foster home in the Denver area. Applications are currently being accepted for our sweet and cuddly girl. if interested in this loving best friend, please fill out an application completely at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ and submit.
**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Dixie please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder, Rescueme and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in most cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
