Story
Carter has come a long way since he was brought to the Humane Society as a stray. When he first came in, no one could touch him or even approach his cage. Nowadays, if you spend some time letting him sniff around, give him some treats, and let him get comfortable with you, he warms up. He will accept pets and even seek them out at times. Carter is looking for a quiet, chihuahua- savvy home to rule. If interested in setting up a virtual meet and greet, please email our Adoptions Manager at office@southsuburbanhumane.org

We are still learning about Lola. Please check back and if interested please fill out an application https://www.jotform.us/form/43196636952162 Thank you for your interest in adopting a pet from Guardians of the Green Mile Inc. We are a group of individuals that have come together to save the lives of animals that are in danger of being euthanized. We raise funds to fully vet the animals and to provide them with a stable home until they are adopted. All of the dogs in our Rescue are in Foster homes while they are looking for their forever family. The only time we put a dog in boarding is for a Foster to go on vacation if another Foster is not able to care for them. We appreciate your taking the time to fill out the application to adopt one of our Guardians of the Green Mile pets. The questions that we ask are to only find the right fit for all of our dogs and the families that will be adopting them. Adoption fees are $300 for dogs that are 1 year and older. $350 for puppies under 1 year. Included in the adoption fee: All animals will be fully vetted, micro chipped and spayed or neutered. (Deposit of $50.00 required if they are not old enough to have the surgery) Renter’s will be required to submit a copy of their lease agreement to verify Landlord and also All Fosters and Adopters that have personal animals must be spayed / neutered. Age appropriate and healthy enough for surgery, we will verify that with the reference call to your Veterinarian. We are 100% volunteer operated and will process your application within a few days to a week depending on volunteer availability. We will be checking with your veterinarian and personal references, please let them know ahead of time. Applicants will be interviewed and require a home visit before being approved to adopt or foster a dog from GOTGM. Story
Hiya, so they tell me I have cataracts so I don't see very well, but let me tell you I can HEAR everything! My ears are extra special just like me! I am a 10 year old mix of Chihuahua and Miniature Pinscher. I absolutely LOVE to be carried around and will give you kisses all day long! I am learning to do good girl outside and not inside. I will go into a crate, but I sometimes do good girl in there as well. My dad had cancer so he was unable to care for me or my sister Pepper so these Guardians came in and carried me to a place of safety on their strong wings. While I may miss my dad I know he did the right thing and I also know that GOTGM will find me a perfect home for me! Story
If it is true that everyone has a special song, then my song has to be “If You’re Happy and You Know it, Clap Your Hands,” and I would be clapping my hands all the time, if I had hands, that is. At about 18 months of age, I love playing with my toys, running through the house, engaging in a tug-of-war, getting treats, sleeping on the reclining end of the couch with my four-legged sister, and sneaking up on the cat. The last one usually ends with me getting scolded because I am more interested in the cat than I should be. I love, love, love to go outside, now that I am more used to that foreign white stuff called snow. You see, we don’t have any of that in the mighty state of Texas where I used to live. However, I have a tendency to run off, so you must keep me on a leash or have a fenced area for me to play in order for me to be safe. I really like people, especially the 3-year-old at my foster home, but I am a little boisterous for him. Because of that, tiny people might not be the best for me. I am going to need some more practice with this thing called housebreaking; right now I am a little hit or miss, but the puppy pads are helping me. If you are looking for a loyal, fun-loving, silly little gal, I am the one for you! Life is good. She has been fully vetted, spayed, current on vaccines, microchipped, heartworm tested negative and on prevention. Our adoption area is within a 150 mile radius of Valparaiso, IN. If interested in adopting please submit an application at www.teambarc.com. Her adoption fee is $300.Visit www.teambarc.com for more information and our online application. Story
Meet Promise, a very loving but extremely shy little girl. She is an 8 year old, 9 pound Chihuahua/Dachshund mix. Promise adores her human foster mom and dad and loves nothing more than to be snuggled up next to you. She would do best in an adult only household where someone is home most of the time. She likes the quiet laid back kind of lifestyle. Promise is an exceedingly finicky eater. She doesn’t like regular dog food so her foster mom cooks for her, which is super easy. She gets along with the other small dogs in her foster home but she doesn’t really interact with them. Promise is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped and current on heartworm and flea prevention. Promise’s adoption fee is $150. If you are interested in adopting Promise, please visit heathersfosterdogs.org to complete and submit your adoption application!
