Story
We adopted Queenie from a shelter 3 years ago. We moved from a farm where she could roam free and she did great, to a home with no fenced yard. Queenie has lots of energy and chews everything, an experienced dog adopter would be the best fit for her. She is very sweet and gentle, just hyper. Queenie is great with kids and loves attention and loving.

Story
We got him as a puppy back in February of 2019. He is a very energetic and happy dog who loves to run and play and is all in all very good natured, but very energetic. He needs space to play, run, and otherwise be the 1y/o dog he is. Would be a fantastic running dog. The only reason me and my wife have decided to re-home him is due to us not living very active lives and being in a apartment, we know he could be better served by someone who enjoys going on walks and has the space to let the guy play around! He is half collie, quarter German Shepard and quarter huskie. He is micro chipped, neutered, and is up to date on shots, although we have not registered the microchip.

Story
This pet is currently being fostered. Please email info@prairiepaws.org to arrange an appointment to meet the pet. Prairie Paws is temporarily closed. Are you looking for an Angel? We have just the one for you! Angel LOVES (and we mean LOOOOOVVVEEES) tennis balls and getting brushed! She gets along with other dogs and kids (12 and up recommended for her size). When we pull into the driveway and drive past her while she is in the outdoor run she just sits there quietly. She is a lovable possible Collie mix, some say St. Bernard / Chow mix, your guess is as good as ours. She is a bit kennel reactive (barks at you when you approach her kennel but she wants you to see her) once you open that kennel door she crawls into your lap, presents her belly and gives you kisses. This Angel is looking for a one in a million home and human. Her estimated date of birth is 07/11/2017. She came to us from a shelter low on space. We are excited to be her bridge to a second chance. She is on the larger side. She weighed in at 67 lbs at intake. Her adoption fee of $75 includes a medical exam, sterilization, age appropriate vaccines, dewormer, heartworm test and microchip. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. As we get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. All PPAS puppies and dogs are up to date on all of their vaccines (including rabies if age appropriate), and will be micro chipped and registered in the adopter's name at the time of adoption. Adopters get a free consultation at an area vet partner within 14 days of adoption. Any dog that is six months of age or older will be tested for Heartworms and if found negative, will be kept on Heartworm prevention during their shelter stay, after the adoption it is up to the adopter to continue the highly recommended Heartworm preventative treatment. Also all PPAS shelter dogs are treated with a monthly topical flea/tick preventative and we ask that adopters continue that treatment as well. Per state law we sterilize all shelter pets before they begin their new fabulous lives with their new families. The shelter is open to the public: Mon, Wed, Thurs 11-6 and Sat 11-4. If you are interested in this dog or puppy, please either email Prairie Paws Animal Shelter at info@prairiepaws.org, for an application visit our website @ prairiepaws.org or call 785.242.2967 for more information. Here's the scoop on the adoption process: Placing a Hold: A hold may be placed on an animal for $20.00 a day up to 3 business days ($60.00 max). The hold fee is non-refundable and does not go towards the adoption fee. We encourage you to utilize the hold system if you are interested in a certain pet. A credit card number may be given over the phone or the fee paid at the shelter to ensure the pet you are interested in is available for a meet and greet. Placing the animal on hold makes it so others cannot have a meet and greet with the animal until the hold expires. Holds are on a first call/come first serve basis. You must call or come in, holds cannot be put down via email. You may call the shelter as early as 8am on any open day to place a hold. In person meet and greet: Potential adopters must come and meet the animal before an adoption can take place. We cannot do over the phone sight unseen adoptions. Business hours vary and are listed on our website (www.prairiepaws.org) or at end of our email correspondence. If you have other animals you would like to bring to the meet and greet we encourage you to do so. We have outdoor enclosures and trained kennel staff will assist with all meet and greets. All family members, including children, are encouraged to attend the meet and greet. Adoption Questionnaire: Potential adopters will need to fill out the adoption questionnaire. Adoption questionnaires are available on our website or at the meet and greet. Once complete, an Adoption Counselor will review the questionnaire with the potential adopter and will have a discussion to ask and/or answer any additional questions. From there, the adoption counselor will print and review all appropriate paperwork with the adopter to provide important and educational information regarding the animal. Adoption fees: Adoption fees must be paid in full at time of adoption – no partial payments are accepted. Cash, Check or all major credit cards are accepted. Adoption fees vary. Please note if you live in the city of Ottawa a dog license fee must also be paid at time of adoption. Annual renewal of dog licenses is required between January 1st and February 15th. Taking your animal home: The State of Kansas requires that all cats and dogs must be sterilized (spayed/neutered) before going to their new homes. In most cases animals will have already been sterilized before being placed on the adoption floor and you will be able to take your new companion home with you the day of adoption. However, if the animal is not yet sterilized, they will need to stay at the shelter and we will schedule the surgery on the next available date (usually within a week). We do request that all dogs go home with a collar/leash, so if you have one please bring it along or we do have a great selection available in our retail area. The shelter is open to the public: Mon, Wed, Thurs 11-6 and Sat 11-4. Story
Sammy had a rough start to life he was found a slow part with all his litter mates and they all had parvo. We adopted Sammy when he barely old enough to be taken we've had him for 3 years and years been a great loving family pet to me and my wife and older children, However no matter what training we go to (petco: all trainings), we can not break his alpha dog mentality. He is a great watchdog and loves to run. We believe That Our home environment is just not for him. He is going to need someone who be patient because hes wary around new people, And does not like loud noises. He is crate trained knows his commands but can be stubborn.
