What we provide is our best estimates based on our experience and the information provided by the our medical partners. Unless otherwise noted, ALL animals are fostered and available for adoption on Long Island, NY.  Approx. one year old Collie mix Hi, my name is Kali! I don’t know my exact birthday, I’ll be happy to celebrate whenever, but I’m around 1 and weigh 25 lbs. I will grow a little when I gain some much needed weight. I was used to living outside and not getting much food until I was saved along with my brother, Cash (also available for adoption). We are so thankful to be able to be in a warm  house with people and food! My favorite things are being around people and giving them lots of cuddles and kisses while laying their laps, along with playing with my brother and any other dogs! I’m a little shy at first with other dogs but I warm up quickly. I’m also getting used to playing with toys and LOVE my kong with a little peanut butter, I could chew on that all day! I’m working on potty training.  My foster humans are starting to teach me sit and I’m also learning to walk on a leash, all these things are so exciting and I’m very eager to learn and please everyone! I’m very excited to meet my forever humans and live a life full of happiness and playtime! I have so much love to give and can’t wait to meet you! Likes: Every human, snuggles, dogs, naps on my comfy bed, Kongs, peanut butter, car rides, love and attention Dislikes: Loud noises, being left alone without a human or another dog, getting in trouble (good thing I don’t do this much!)                       Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Hi, my name is Jodie. Aren't I pretty? I'm not sure what I'm mixed with...maybe some collie, maybe some terrier....I don't really know but I do know that I'm a good pup and I like people and I'm good with other dogs. I chase cats though, so a home without cats is best. My year of birth is estimated to be around 2007 and my weight 45 lbs. If interested in learning more about me, please email RickyC68@aol.com and please include a phone number where you can be reached. Thank you.

Story
Roscoe, thought to be born in January or February of 2015 is a tricolor, smooth coat collie with some brindle markings on his legs. When he was about 6 months old he was adopted. He was returned to us after being with his adoptive family for 3 years due to extenuating circumstances. A male member of the adoptive family developed Alzheimer’s shortly after adopting Roscoe. This family member became abusive toward Roscoe and after trying numerous methods to make it work out, finally decided that they just could not take the chance that things would escalate further. Roscoe had become quite fearful of the male family member. Due to this trauma, Roscoe needs an owner that has experience with dogs so they can help him continue to re-develop his social skills and self-confidence. Even though he is still somewhat leery of new men, he seeks attention from men with which he is familiar. Roscoe gets along great with the dogs that are in his foster home. They range in size from 10 pounds to 65 pounds. However, he acted aggressively toward the clinic cat at our vet’s office when he went in to get his vaccinations. He does take some time to accept new foster dogs coming in to his foster home but once he realizes they are part of his pack he is great with them as well. He weighs about 55 pounds and received extensive obedience training while at his previous adoptive home. Roscoe rides well in the car once it has been established that he cannot ride on the front seat. He is extremely smart, walks well on a leash and knows several basic commands. Roscoe is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, is heartworm negative and is being kept on heartworm and flea and tick prevention to maintain his good health. If you would like to adopt Roscoe, the first step in the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers. After you submit your application please allow a few days for a volunteer to review your application. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not mean he/she will be adopted to that home. Once your application has been approved a volunteer with contact you to set up a phone interview. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you have about the adoption process and the animal you are interested in.

Story
This stunning boy was on the euthanasia list .. why? because he was scared and wouldn't be moved to adoption. So we decided he deserved to live. He is approx 10 months old at 1/2020 and 77.5 lbs. We do not know his breed mix, but he may have some collie and great pyr in him. He is a typical goofy puppy, very sweet, loves to run and play, eats like a horse and is doing really well on his house training and will run outside with the other dogs. Darcus has been enrolled in a 3 week lodge and learn program for basic obedience and leash training. As a puppy, he may still require some on going training after his program has finished but should have the basics and leash walking under control OUR RESCUE POLICY - It is our rescue policy for all our dogs that we require a home with no children under the age of 8, and experienced dog owners only The total adoption fee of between $550 and $675 depending on the quarantine laws of the adopter or foster's state (primarily Massachusetts) and includes the required interstate health certificate and transport , spay/neuter, shots including rabies, bordatella, parvo, distemper and canine influenza, and microchipped. The total amount is payable to Shaggy Dog Rescue which is a 501c3. We also provide a coupon for a free wellness visit to the South Wilton Vet group if convenient for you. Some of our dogs are still in Texas in foster care. Our application is online at http://houstonshaggydogrescue.org/application-process/ We require two years of vets records on your current or past dog for our review Records must show the potential adopter as the owner
