Story
She knows basic commands like come and sit. Loves to play with toys and is learning to fetch, return, and drop tennis balls. She is a very smart little lady and you will find her to be very attentive and eager to learn. Marsha can be possessive with toys. Fetch and drop training is helping with that issue. You just need to exercise a little care when taking toys away from her. Telling her to drop it and showing her a treat will help. Marsha would be best in a home with adults and her adopter familiar with her breed. She is showing great affection with people who have taken the time to get to know her. It would be best if her potential adopter interact with her several times at Save-A-Pet before taking her home. That would give her time to become familiar with a new person and make her transition to a new home easier. Update: Guess what, some may have thought I was not good with other dogs but let me tell you something, I am actually doing pretty well in the doggie play groups here. We are just having fun like kids would at recess. (Of course, this still means that I may not like every single dog but do you like every single person?) So if you have a dog, why don’t you bring him in so we can meet and see how we may do together.

Story
Brownie is the cutest pup ever. We are not sure of his breed but he seems to be a Dachshund Mix. He’s friendly, good with other dogs, and an overall pleasant pup! Brownie is estimated to be 6 years old, weighing about 16 lbs. He had been surrendered to Chicago Animal Control by his “family” for having allegedly snapping at a child in the home. There is no evidence that he did so nor does he have a reported bite history. We find that oftentimes, when people surrender their dogs, “biting” allows for justification to dump the dog. Unfortunately however this imparts a “label” on the dog. Brownie has shown no sign of ever biting anyone. Nonetheless, we want to minimize any risk of Brownie being annoyed by children, so we suggest an ideal home for Brownie to be one with no children under the age of 10 years old. Brownie would do fine in a home with modest activity and a family that wants to include its new pup in all family activities. He would also enjoy the company of another dog and a fenced yard to allow him to run and play outdoors. Brownie is up to date on all vaccinations, heartworm tested and on year-round heartworm preventative, neutered and microchipped. If you might like to add Brownie to your family please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895.

Story
I weigh in at 21 lbs., 10 years young and looking for my forever home. Adoption Donation: $100 Brynn has to go into an adult only home, no children and she has to be the only pet in the house. She is a bit of a special case in that she is not the best with people when she first meets them. Once she gets to know you she is so fun and sweet. She is a volunteer favorite. She just needs someone to give her the chance and time to warm up and get to know you. Here is a write up from a volunteer -- WHEN BRYNN FIRST ARRIVED AT AHS WE THOUGHT THAT SHE WAS TIMID AND SHY. BUT NOW THAT SHE HAS REALIZED THAT THIS IS A GOOD, SAFE PLACE- HER PERSONALITY HAS JUST BLOSSOMED. THIS BEAUTIFUL, BRINDLE-GIRL IS FULL OF DELIGHTFUL SURPRISES. BRYNN LOVES TO BE OUTSIDE AND SIMPLY JUST DESIRES YOUR COMPANY. SHE IS A LITTLE NUT WITH TOYS AND WILL MAKE YOU LAUGH WHILE YOU WATCH HER PLAY. IF YOU SIT DOWN ON THE GROUND SHE WILL COME RUNNING OVER AND DRAMATICALLY THROW HERSELF UPSIDE DOWN IN YOUR LAP BECAUSE SHE WANTS YOU TO GIVE HER LOTS OF BELLY RUBS. SHE WILL EVEN SNEAK YOU A SWEET LITTLE KISS NOW AND THEN. BRYNN PLAYS WELL WITH OTHER DOGS HER SIZE AND IS JUST A PLEASURE TO BE AROUND. THIS SWEET, CUTIE-PIE IS WAITING FOR A HOME OF HER OWN AND WILL FILL YOU WITH JOY IN RETURN. She never messes in her cage and is a breeze to walk-no pulling etc. She needs a warm lap to cuddle. All dogs are microchipped, neutered/spayed, current on all vaccines, heartworm tested and started on Tri Heart Plus & Vectra 3D. Please visit our website and fill out an online application and we will call you as soon as we review it.  The 'How to Adopt' page on our website has our directions, hours and adoption policies. Our website (www.animalhouseshelter.com) is kept 100% up-to-date with who is currently available. New animals (40/week) are added to the site 2 weeks before their availability date to give you time to fill out your adoption application and get the family ready to come out to the shelter that day. So keep any eye on the site for any animals being added as available for adoption as new animals are added everyday! We would recommend if you haven’t done so already that you submit a general online adoption application with us so it is on file for when you are ready to come out and adopt. The adoption counselors will be able to show you many animals that would be a good fit for your family. We do grant adoptions in order of when you submitted your application with us.  So it is always best that you get your general application for any animal in with us as soon as possible.  Link to the Adoption Application: https://www.animalhouseshelter.com/adopt/adoption-application/ Animal House Shelter 13005 Ernesti Road Huntley IL, 60142     847-961-5541 phone 847-961-5537 fax Open: Sunday-Friday from 11 AM to 7 PM,  Saturday 9 AM to 7 PM  Connect With Us: Like Us On Facebook   ! Story
Missy is a 1-2 year old Dachshund mix looking for her forever home. Missy is here all the way from Texas to find her new home. She was found on the side of the road with her puppies, all her puppies were adopted and Missy needed to get out of Texas to be safe. She weighs about 25 lbs and is a very solid girl. She is very affectionate and wants to be by her person all the time. She also has manners, she sits nicely for treats and wont sleep in the big bed. She will hop in but then sleep on the floor in a bed. Missy was adopted and returned for a couple of reasons she was having accidents in the house and was being aggressive to people on a leash and people coming in the house. I have seen neither of these traits. She was being walked to relieve herself and I believe she is not used to that. She does have access to a doggie door at her foster home but is potty trained. I have walked her on a leash into a pet store with absolutely no reaction from her whatsoever. She does have some issues with strangers either she likes them or doesn't. I call that a good judge of character. If the is not sure about a person she will nip at the back of their legs above the ankle. If she likes the person she is all over them right away. Missy is a wonderful dog and companion I do require a fenced yard and hopefully a friend to play with. She loves to play with the animals at her foster home including the cat and bird! She is a smart girl and wants to please I know she can flourish in the right home. If you are interested in hearing more about Missy please contact Julie at 224-688-9782, adoption FEE $350.

Story
Squirt came to us from a high kill shelter in Texas. We decided to give him a new name for his new life. We've re-named him Fritz! Fritz is a bit shy at first. It does take him a bit to warm up to new people but he has come a long way! He's a young Chiweenie who is learning that not all people are bad. He is truly coming out of his shell. He is learning that there are good people that will care for him. How can anyone resist those eyes of his?! Because Fritz is not a fan of leashes, his adoptive home must have a fenced in yard. Because all of our dogs are in foster care, we do require an approved adoption application for all meet and greets. If you are interested in Fritz, please request an application.
