Story
Tiger 20lb female dachshund mix 10 years old If you're a doxie lover, then you will surely appreciate Little Miss Tiger. Despite having sat in a shelter for a month, she waltzed right into her foster home like she owned it. She has stayed overnight at another house or two, and owned them. She is not shy, but she is not needy. If you want a lap dog, she will love being on your lap, or at least next to you. If you just want a buddy to follow you around the house, she will be that too. When you pick her up to put her in your lap, she will push her head into your shoulder and gaze up at you with love. She can lay around all day and never get antsy. She is The Queen however, and if there are other dogs in the house they MUST be her subjects and she will insist they be submissive. So best not to have another dominant dog, or realize that they will have to figure out their places with each other with your help. She currently lives with a 40lb submissive lab, and after she showed him who was boss, they do fine together. She is good with kids and enjoys the cats. She loves to go on walks, and is in great shape to do so. True to her breed, she barks when she hears someone coming out of or into the house. And she will bark ferociously at moving vehicles and struggle maniacally to break free and chase them, so having a good hold on her outside at all times is important, unless there's a fence. She is housebroken and stands at the door to be let out. If you're looking for a conveniently small but durable love bug, you must consider Miss Tiger! Our standard adoption fee is $295 cash or check and $300 credit card ($5 processing fee). It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Please email safehavendogsIL@yahoo.com for an application or additional details. Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed. Please consider becoming a foster home while you search for your new best friend. We need foster homes - pounds are overflowing with puppies and adult dogs that are at-risk and need help. We can only rescue as many as we have foster home commitments. Fostering is a rewarding experience for your family.

Story
Zane, a Dachshund/ Chihuahua mix, is 1 1/2 years old. From his background, he is adjusting little by little. He is house trained and crate trained. Besides a crate, he feels safe on a couch. He jumps off the couch when it's mealtime, time to go outside, and has started jumping off to go where you are sitting. (Wanting you to pick him up and be put on your lap!) He only weighs 12 pounds. Lacking socialization, when meeting people or other dogs, it does take time. Soon he's ready to be petted and likes being picked up. With other dogs, he likes running around with them. He is very fast. Going on walks, are a great way for him to explore and to get used to noises. He still gets startled when there is a loud sound. He needs a quiet home and people that will let him adjust to a new way of life. He has been neutered, is up to date on shots, and has a microchip for his forever home. If you would like to meet him, call Judy 630 879-2827. No texting. The adoption fee is $225. Adoption fee includes: - microchip - free 30 days of pet insurance (requires activation) - spay/neuter - age appropriate vaccinations: Bordetella, DH(L)PP, rabies - heartworm preventive & flea/tick preventive (when necessary) - deworming

Story
Meet Tootsie! A fun loving, energetic and playful little girl. Our girl hadn’t had the greatest life up until a few months ago. Once she got into the hands of a wonderful rescue, her medical needs were taken care of and she blossomed into this spunky happy go lucky girl. We were more than happy to bring her here from Oklahoma and into one of our wonderful foster homes where she’s been getting lots of love and attention. And yes, a little spoiled! Tootsie is about 7-8 years old we believe and her foster mom’s affectionately call her Miss Bossypants because she jumps off the couch and scratches the carpet and will bark if you don't throw the toy for her. She's got one big personality in a 9lb package! Toys, toys, toys and more toys are a must for her to have in her forever home. Despite being blind (which bothers her 0%) her favorite game is fetch! She always has a toy in mind that she wants you to throw, and if you throw the wrong one, she will be sure to let you know. But she does also like to snuggle on or near people and like most Chi/Doxie mixes she appreciates a good blanket burrow or sweater. Tootsie would also love another dog in her new home or someone that's home a lot. She's so social that she really misses her people if totally alone. Also note that Tootsie's eye issues will not be an added expense for her new owners. She gets around just fine and you would never know she has vision issues! If you are interested in this sweet girl, please visit the rescue website at http://newstartdogrescue.org and fill out an application so you can meet and check each other out. Tootsie’s adoption fee is $200 and she is current on all vaccinations, microchipped and spayed.

Story
Hello my name is Roman; I am a handsome 11-year-old brownish terrier I really look like Benji.  I am house train; I really like to sleep on a bed on the floor in my foster parents’ bedroom. I get along with some other dogs, I need time to get used to them and I can be very particular about things.  I would probably do best by myself.  I have never met a cat yet so I don't know how I feel about them. I need to eat by myself, because I get so excited for my meals.  My foster mom is working with me on waiting for food and treats because I get upset if I think someone is going to take my food from me.  I bark and prance around and sometimes other furry friends think I am getting in their space and get upset with me. So, it’s better to put me by myself when its meal time. I need to be with teenage kids or older. No little kids please! Little kids make me nervous with their jumping and running. I would LOVE to have a fence in yard. I like to sit in the yard and look around.  I am not in a rush to get back in the house. I like to make sure the back yard is safe for my family.  I am fixed, up to date on vaccines, and micro chipped.  Will you be my forever home? His adoption fee is $200 To adopt Roman go to www.furangelsas.com and fill out an application.

Story
Are you looking for a new best friend? Do you believe in monogamy? Do you think children are fine from a distance? Do you like to take walks? Are Sundays made for lying on the couch and snacking? Do you like to snuggle under a warm blanket with your best friend? Do you want a loyal doggie friend? If you said yes to these, you could be Hollee's love match! An approximately two-year-old Dachshund/Terrier mix, Hollee likes quiet. That means no children, and no busy homes. She plays great in doggie daycare and does well with the resident dogs, but she has a tendency to resource-guard with toys and treats. Hollee would do best as the only dog in her home.Hollee loves her person like no other. She is a complete love-bug who likes to chew on a bone on the couch while under the blanket. Due to her past experiences, Hollee takes some time to completely trust you, so you will need to go slow the first days, but once you win her over, you'll have a friend for life.Interested in adopting this dog?
