LOVES TO ROMP AND PLAY!!! VIDEOUPDATE 1/25/20: Savannah and her sister Scarlet arrived on 5/13/18 as strays from Animal Control. Savannah appears to be a Foxhound (mix), about 3½ years old, and 50 pounds. She wears an easy maintenance, tri-color coat. Savannah is much more outgoing than Scarlet. Neither dog is aggressive, and they rarely bark. Savannah is uncomfortable around strangers (at first) but she loves people she knows and trusts, and rushes right up to them to accept love and treats with a very gentle mouth. She loves to romp and play in ponds and doggie swimming pools—immersing her entire body in the water. When she emerges sopping wet, she is full of the joy of life. In hot weather, she even cools her long front legs and feet in the water bucket while she drinks from it. Savannah LOVES “yard time” and running and playing with other dogs. She, Scarlett, Brent (their previous roommate who has been adopted) were fun to watch, as they played fast, fun games of TAG – YOU’RE IT! When we are in the yard with Savannah, she checks in with us periodically and comes each time we call her to accept treats. She is very treat motivated and will SIT for treats! She loves to “go find” kibble treats we scatter in the grass for her. She excels at this “nose game” and when she plays it with Scarlet neither are ever food aggressive. On 1/23/20, she went on a day trip to the Piney River Trail with Flower and Ed. Ed had to pick her up and put her in the car the first time (she had probably never ridden in a car before), and she whined a little bit on the way, but didn’t drool profusely or get car sick. When we got to the trail head, she happily got out of the car and really perked up. She was VERY GOOD ON LEASH and she loved using her nose to explore all the scents along the trail. At one point, a man on a bicycle zoomed quietly passed us, overtaking us from behind and startling us all. It took Savannah 20 minutes to stop worrying about that “quiet, very fast thing that moved past us on round feet”, before her tail was relaxed and happy again. We hiked a total of 3 miles (giving her all the sniff time she wanted) and when we got back to the car, Savannah climbed back inside like a true champ. Savannah enjoys sleeping on soft blankets and snuggling in close to her roommates. When she gets bored by being in her room a long time, she will create “tug games” with the blankets though. She has accidents in her room sometimes, but we feel if her new family got her outside often enough to potty when she needed to, she would be easy to house train. Savannah will thrive in a new home when the right family discovers her. A home with another dog (or two) is a must for her because she does LOVE playtime with other dogs. The chaos of city life may be overwhelming to her, unless the home is in a very quiet neighborhood. Because she loves to run very fast, she will need a home with a somewhat large, securely fenced yard. To learn more about her, please contact Flower and Ed at ek.gk@verizon.net or 434-361-0190. We can also facilitate a meet and greet with your dogs. GOOD WITH DOGSVisit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.VOLUNTEERS and DONATIONS NEEDED.
