Come and meet me at our adoption event at BUCH Fermentary, Minneapolis on 5/18 from 1 - 3pm! Age: Estimated DOB 1/30/2021 Dog friendly: Yes Cat friendly: Unknown/not tested Kid friendly: Yes Potty trained: Yes Crate trained: Yes Hi, my name is Memphis, I am a sweet Minnesotan girl. My original mommy had some medical issues and could no longer care for my sister (Kimberly) and I. So we were placed in rescue to find our forever family. There isn’t a human or dog that I haven’t loved. I get a little excited at first, which can be a hazard with my size, but calm down quickly. I love playing in the backyard with my dog friends and then love to snuggle up to take a good nap. There isn’t a toy or treat that I don’t like. Did I tell you that I LOVE treats? I am fully potty trained and amazing at using my kennel when my fosters leave the house; besides, that is when I get treats!! I will sleep on a pillow on the floor next to your bed but prefer snuggling up next to you. My foster mom says that I am a bed hog and will fight her for her pillow, even though there is a second pillow to use. My foster mom jokes that a king-sized bed should be a requirement for adoption. I am a big snuggle bug, more of you to love, looking for my forever family, is that you? Adoption Fee: $625

Story
Ki is a 6.5 yr old lovable boy who came to us after his owner decided to move in with family and he was “voted out of the move”. Within days, it was apparent that he needs exercise, structure, and attention for him to thrive. With supervision, he has done well with visitors and after he “calms down” in his kennel is very friendly. We can tell he hasn’t had a lot of positive social interactions and are working on that - and we’re confident he will learn quickly with practice. He is perfectly house and crate trained - he sleeps in his crate at night and when we leave the house just to keep some separation from the resident Dane, but we don’t think he would get into things if left to roam. We were expecting a bit of male aggression but haven’t seen that since he’s arrived - in fact, he absolutely loves my husband and has warmed up quickly to us both. He mostly ignores the resident Dane so we think he would be happy in a home with another large dog or as the solo dog. He does tend to be quite vocal which can be misinterpreted as aggressive, but we feel with proper management and awareness he will make an excellent companion. He’s happiest when receiving pets and belly rubs, going on long walks, and playing tug of war with a rope toy. As you can see from the photos, Ki is a big boy and has some weight to lose. With a structured home including regular walks and proper diet, he is going to flourish. With the help of a gentle leader, he does well on walks but still needs a confident handler for the situations when he spots another dog and gets excited. Due to his large size and vocal nature, he needs a home that will be consistent with training, walking, and socialization. A fenced yard will be important so he can expel some energy between walks. We know Ki will make someone with patience and a big heart very happy! ##568667##

Story
This is Luna's foster, Meg, speaking for her because she's too shy to tell you about herself. Luna is 17 mths old and recently Spayed. She is a very petite Dane, weighing in at only 85 lbs.   Luna was surrendered because she attacked and badly injured a very small dog the owners also had in the home, but since coming into rescue, we have seen no evidence of dog aggression. I let her out to play with the dogs who are around her size, like labs and retrievers and she does great and loves running and playing with them. So we think a home with another friendly, medium to large dog would be perfect for her.   Luna's biggest issue is fear and trusting. We don't really know how she was treated in her previous home, but she was extremely scared once her owner left our farm and would not let me get close enough to touch her for a couple of weeks. I could let her out, let her back in and she'd run to her kennel and stay there.    HOWEVER, once I gained her trust (hot dogs are a wonderful thing) and she would take treats and food out of my hand, we progressed quickly and I can say without a doubt, she is the sweetest dog I've ever met. She may never be a real cuddle bunny, but she is so happy for kind words and a few pets. Her most prized position is a squeaky rubber bird she brought with her and she will carry it around all day.    Luna will need a very special forever home who will be patient above all else. As she is in a boarding kennel situation now (albeit having free run of the place), I think being in a home with another dog that she can see is being petted, loved and treated well will do her a world of good and probably won't take as long as she did to warm up to me.  But, she does deserve a home and I hope someone will consider her.   ##503033##

Story
Pupdate from Foster: Bridgette is 77 lbs of pure puppy love. She loves to play, loves to run in the yard, and loves to cuddle. She's not a fan of felines, but she gets along with other dogs and plays well. She can be a bit of a couch potato and would gladly sleep next to you if allowed. She likes to tell you when she wants to go somewhere by trying to open the door, so make sure it's locked if you don't want her to leave. Bridgette is house trained, but needs to be taught how to ask to go outside. She likes having a regular daily schedule. She doesn't love going in her crate, but is good at staying in it once she's there. She can sleep in her crate and also will sleep well in her doggy bed next to your bed. Puppy obedience lessons would be beneficial to help her learn to come when called and how to leave things she shouldn't have (she has a shoe-stealing habit). Bridgette is ready and waiting to meet you! I am Bridgette. I am from Arkansas. From her foster: She's not a fan of felines, although she loves dogs and plays well. She can be very lazy sometimes haha and Loves a good cuddle. She loves to tell you when she wants to go somewhere by trying to open the door, so make sure it's locked if you don't want her to leave. . She does really good for crate bed-time.

Story
Status: AVAILABLE11/6/2022 Introducing Bertha (BB!)Bio: - 4 years old - Spayed female - Mantle coat - Located in Ripon, WIBasic Info: - Significant vision impairment, completely blind in left eye and can only see shadows or dark spots in her right eye - Super snuggler- loves cuddles and lots of attention from people - Walks nicely with a harness, doesn't pull - Crate trained; is crated overnight for sleeping, Bertha has been left alone for about 4 hours while her foster mom was at work and did great! She has never had an accident in the house or the crate. - No known cat experience - Unknown if she has ever lived with kids (none in foster and she came from a humane society prior to our rescue) Likes: - Walks, these are her absolute favorite! - Enjoys chew toys and stuffed animals - Always down for a napDislikes/Quirks: - Not a fan of sharing her space or food with other dogs. This could be due to her sight loss and confusion of other dogs in her space. She will do best in a home where she is the only dog. - Does not like loud noises and being sneaked up on and/ startled; again related to her sight loss - Would rather not get a bath if she doesn't have to Medical Notes: - Other than being almost completely blind, she has no medical concerns. She has a few lipomas (fatty tissue spots) on her legs/side, but these have been evaluated by a vet and they are not a health concern and do not bother her physicallyHard Requirements For Forever Home: - Due to extreme vision impairment, she will require a fenced in yard for her safety - An adoptive home where she can be the only dog - While Bertha has not been aggressive to anyone, her lack of being able to see and assess her surroundings visually leave her easily startled and possibly on the defensive. For that reason a calm home environment is needed for this sweet girl. If there are children in an adoptive home we ask that they be at least 12 years old and able to understand this need and provide her the calm, predictable environment she needs. If you think you may be the adoptive home that this super sweet girl is waiting for, this is what you need to do: - If you have already completed the application process and are an approved adopter with UMGDR, please contact Deborah at deborah@thegreatdanerescue.com to learn more about Bertha. - If you are not yet an approved adopter through UMGDR, you must complete our application process before you could be considered to adopt a dog through our rescue. Please visit https://www.thegreatdanerescue.com/adoption-application to complete an application and submit your $25 application fee to begin the process.

Story
Status: AVAILABLE8/3/2022 Introducing Maxwell!Bio: * 9 month old active puppy * White Neutered Male * Located in Presque Isle, WI Basic Info: * Maxwell has significant vision impairment--it is estimated that he can only see about 5% out of one eye, however foster mom questions this estimate as he does see "something" and gets along really well once he understands the layout of the environment. He might see blobs/lightness/darkness of objects/etc. He can see motion & will react according to what the motion is doing. He may see certain areas of light/dark etc that help him to move around. * While not completely deaf, he has a significant hearing impairment. Maxwell appears to hear only certain high pitch noises out of one ear (things like loud voices/dogs barking/vehicles revving up) * Really loves on his people and looks to them for guidance and reassurance due to his hearing and vision losses * Excellent car rider * No known experience with catsLikes: * Playing with toys; balls/rope balls/ deer antlers etc. * Walks; he is a very curious pup who loves to explore everything he can get his nose and paws on * Loves doing zoomies in the backyard Dislikes: * Being left alone. If he feels that he is all alone he will bark constantly. Someone who is home more often than not would best suit his current needs. At this time a standard 8-hour work day is too long for him to be left alone * People in his face and not respecting his boundaries * Objects/people/other dogs that move quickly. With his limited sight and hearing these fast movements can make him a bit nervous and unsure of his surroundings Hard Requirements For Forever Home: * Due to his hearing and vision impairments, he requires a physically fenced in yard * Requires a home with another submissive, active canine who can help him burn off puppy energy and who can mentor him in these crucial months of training and "growing" up! * If there are children, his foster mom asks they be at least 12 years or older, with calm demeanors * A calm and consistent home life is vital to his success! A busy and chaotic environment would be too stressful for himSpecial Note From Foster Mom: * This fella is a pretty special puppy! He has been bounced around a lot unfortunately and really needs an adopter who will go above and beyond as he is most deserving. Someone with deaf/vision impairment experience would be a blessing for him. Maxwell is a one in a million Dane. I just know there is a special home out there for him that will supersede all our expectations.Interested in Maxwell? This is what you need do: * If you have already completed the application process and are an approved adopter with UMGDR, please contact Hannah at hannah@thegreatdanerescue.com to discuss your interest in Maxwell. * If you are not an approved adopter through UMGDR, you must complete our application process before you can be considered to adopt a dog through our rescue. Please visit https://www.thegreatdanerescue.com/adoption-application to complete an application and submit your $25 application fee to begin the process. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Jonathan is your typical puppy that enjoys playing, snuggling, and napping. He has been GREAT at going potty outside. He gives cues that he has to go out,and does really well with a schedule. Jonathan doesn't love his kennel but after a little whimpering-he calms right down, and is fine hanging out in there for a few hours. He sleeps in his kennel all night with keeping it dry.  He has shown interest in the cat but accepted the cat's boundaries after being put in his place. He enjoys playing with the other dogs and would do well with a bigger dog to show him the way. He can get a little snarky with the other dogs being by his food bowl-but not horrible and redirects nicely. He is a smart puppy that has a spunky attitude. He loves to be right by everything that is going on,but will also stay on the rug chewing his toys minding his own business.     I'd recommend that Jonathan go to an experienced owner of large breed dogs as he will need a strong leader. He would also be better for a family with older kids since he is nipping our legs trying to "herd" us already. He is learning that it's not acceptable but he would most likely do better with older kids. Adoption fee includes: Full veterinary exam, alter, rabies vaccination, prepaid microchip, dewormed, Distemper combo vaccines, Bordetella vaccine, heartworm and flea/tick preventative while in rescue. Adoption fee: 550.00 Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.
