Story
A sweet summer dog with a sweet summer name - July is available for adoption! July is a Soi Dog rescued from the illegal dog meat trade in Southeast Asia by Soi Dog Foundation, our partner rescue based in Thailand. She and a group of his friends traveled from the SDF facility in Phuket and were flown stateside to The Barking Lot. July is one of the most soft spoken of the group, preferring to sit back and watch all the action from the sidelines. She has a sweet, mellow, friendly, and easygoing personality. Though bashful upon first meeting, July wags her tail gently when greeting familiar faces. She just turned 6 years old in July 2019 and is a great medium size of 40-45 pounds. July is a beauty inside and out!If you'd like to meet July, please visit http://www.thebarkinglotrescue.com/adoptTo initiate the adoption process for this dog, please complete our online application by clicking below. Story
If you are a fan of Dante from the Disney Pixar movie Coco, then you are sure to love his real life doppelganger, Kyle! Kyle was saved by our partner rescue Soi Dog Foundation and came to us all the way from Thailand in May 2018. He was in pretty bad shape when he first arrived at the SDF facility, and was clearly neglected and mistreated in his past life. Since his unique hairless coat requires some extra care, we have placed him in foster with one of our volunteers in the meantime, and he is thriving! Kyle is currently learning a lot about daily life in an American home and what it is like to be an American dog. He is a friendly, engaging, and affectionate fella who enjoys being pet. He likes to gives big sloppy kisses on your face if presented with an opportunity. Kyle loves food and he is very treat motivated, which helps him pick up training at a good pace. His foster parents are working on housetraining with him, and he has already learned how to sit and perform certain touch commands in a short time span. Kyle shares his foster home with 2 other dogs, and while he gets along quite well with them, he prefers to stay out of their way and observe their interactions. He enjoys his walks and has no trouble keeping up on nice long strolls and hikes. Skincare wise, Kyle would need sunscreen if he is going to be out in the sun for long periods of time, but otherwise, the occasional application of lotion whenever his skin feels dry goes a long way. His foster mom ordered him his own doggie sunsuit to wear on outings - he definitely rocks that look! Kyle is roughly 4 years old and tips the scales at about 55 pounds. His foster mom recently DNA tested him so it will be interesting to see what the results comes back with in the coming weeks! Story
Meet Capricorn! Capricorn is a sweet and gentle Soi Dog who was rescued by our partner rescue Soi Dog Foundation. She flew to us all the way from Thailand, and due to her shyness, we thought she would enjoy a stint in a foster home. Turns out, we were right! Capricorn is doing very well in a home environment. She is completely housebroken, likes going on walks, loves treats, and enjoys sleeping in the bed. Capricorn gets along very well with other dogs, and currently shares her foster home with 2 other dogs. She is shy around new people, so it does take a little bit of time to get to know her. However, once she opens up, she is a very loyal and loving girl. She also has a fun-loving and silly side to her. When she gets excited for walks, she will do a bunch of play bows in anticipation. Capricorn enjoys playing with soft toys, and her favorite is a stuffed moose. Occasionally she would steal a sock and hide it in her bed for safekeeping. Capricorn was estimated to be born in July 2012, and she is a great medium size of about 35-40 pounds. If you would like to give Capricorn a forever home, let us know!If you'd like to meet this pup, please visit www.thebarkinglot.net/adoptTo initiate the adoption process for this dog, please complete our online application by clicking below. Story
Maggie was found digging in the trash on a street in Mexico as a young puppy. She was brought to a home in California. She stayed in that home several weeks, wasn’t wanted and was then given to another family that had two older miniature Chihuahuas. The high energy puppy was not a good mix for this family and the puppy was harshly reprimanded. Our family took the dog and we soon realized that she had behavioral issues. We had another dog at the time and that older larger dog was able to cohabitate with Maggie and even able to redirect her at times. Maggie does not get along well with any other dogs. She will bark viciously and constantly when she sees one through the fence or through windows. When taking her for a walk, the neighbors all know to cross the street away from her. If a dog would come toward her, she would turn and run away scared. We have taken her to classes, tried every dog collar and harness, treats, etc. etc. and have spent more money on her than any other dog.
