Delores was a feral dog that was trapped in Stephen's State Forest along with 16 other feral dogs. The "Forest Dogs" are all learning to trust people. They have never been pet by a human prior to their capture or heard everyday sounds like the hum of a refrigerator, the tumbling of a dryer, or even the flush of a toilet. Everything is new to them. They require fenced yards because they are still learning to walk on leashes. We won't sugarcoat this...they are projects! If you have patience and a huge capacity to nurture and the ability to teach, please think about adopting or fostering one of these dogs. I can't begin to describe the joy you will feel watching dogs like these progress into happy, confident dogs. It is truly amazing to see the first tail wag, the first playful act with a toy, the first lick on your hand, and all of the little milestones that will touch your heart in a huge way. Meet Gibson! Gibby is an 8 year old lab mix who would love nothing more than a couch to lay on, a yard to sniff around in, and adult humans to spend time with. He might look like a big tough guy but he loves stuffed animals more than anything. The volunteers call them his babies and he takes them with him everywhere, even outside to go potty. He also loves to go on car rides (especially to McDonalds!), but is very strong on a leash so he would need someone who will work with him on his leash training. He has done well with large breed female dogs but prefers not to share his home with kids, cats, or other small animals. Skylar came to us in October of 2018. She had been a stray for several months and had become feral. She had been away from human contact for much too long. She had to be caught in a live trap. Upon arrival Skylar was extremely withdrawn. It took months for her to be able to interact with other dogs. She just wasn't interested in anything. She was very depressed and had lost interest In life. Over a year later, Skylar has a wonderful time with other dogs. She runs and plays and enjoys that part of her life. But she still needs a person who will be patient and loving with her. Skylar is not a biter and has never shown us any aggression. She needs to feel a one on one love from a human being in order to build that relationship of trust. Skylar will walk nicely on a leash. She is not housetrained. We don't know anything about her history but we do know that we want her to have a loving home in her future.We believe Skylar to be about 3 years old and a lab mix. Again, we can't verifiy that. She weighs about 58 pounds. Skylar has been spayed and is current on vaccinations. She is microchipped and has tested negative for heartworms. Skylar's adoption fee is $50.00. Desi (named after DESI Arnaz from I Love Lucy show) is one year old male chocolate lab. He is so sweet and loving. He loves to give kisses and he loves his babies (stuffed animals for dogs) and playing with his ball! He has the sweetest soul! He is a very go with the flow, laid back dog if you feel like napping the afternoon away on a Sunday he will curl up right by your feet and sleep the afternoon away with you or if you’re the more active type he also loves playing outside, playing in the water, and loves going for walks or runs!! He is super flexible ;) His favorite thing is playing outside in his large sized kiddie pool of water in the summer or swimming! He loves to play fetch the ball or stick outside and to be chased around outside too!!
