Story
Meet Duck! This sweet boy is an active 1-2 yr old 70 pound Anatolian Shepherd with possibly some Great Pyrenees, hound, and Labrador Retriever mixed in. He has the most beautiful soulful eyes and appears to have webbed feet. Hence the name Duck aka Ducky. He was living outdoors in a rural area in Oklahoma with several other large similar breed dogs in less than desirable circumstances when surrendered by his elderly owner who could no longer care for them. In his foster home, he has quickly blossomed into a silly, goofy, pampered indoor pooch. He is currently living with 3 other dogs ranging in age and size from small to large and gets along great with everyone. Duck would love a home with another playful dog who can keep him company and show him the ropes in his new home so he can continue to gain confidence. A yard where he can explore, fetch his ball and squeaky toy, and do zoomies would be great too! He promises to keep yard squirrel free and his silliness is sure to make you smile! He loves being in the middle of whatever is going on and going for daily walks. He’s such a good boy. He rarely pulls on walks. When Duck can’t convince anyone to play with him, he entertains himself by chewing on his chew treats (bully sticks, bones, antlers, etc.). After walks and playing in the yard, he usually settles down nicely for a nap, tv time, or lounging. He is such a smart boy. He quickly aced crate and house training. He sleeps quietly through the night in his crate and is crated when his foster mom is not home. Duck quickly learned how to sit and will sit for treats, which he takes ever so gently. He also rides well in the car. Duck has a loud deep bark and is vocal whenever someone comes to the door and sometimes when playing - so he probably would not be well suited for apartment life. Because of his size and playfulness, he would do better in a home with adults and bigger kiddos. He has not been cat tested. He gets excited whenever he sees a cat on walks, especially if they run, so he might not be good in a home with cats. His fur is soft, short, and low maintenance. Duck is neutered, vaccinated, heartworm negative, up to date on heartworm and flea/tick medications, and ready for his forever home. Apply today to meet this handsome boy (but be warned... he'll steal your heart), by starting submitting the adoption application found at www.dfwrescueme.org/adopt. Once submitted, the foster will contact you to tell you more, and to arrange a meeting! The adoption fee for all of our dogs is $250.00, which includes their vaccinations and spay/neuter. Duck is participating in the DFW Rescue Me Guest Dog Program, so custody and ongoing care are provided by the foster, not by DFWRM.
