Story
Goofy is exactly what his name implies. He is a goof ball with personality plus. He loves to play and race around to get your attention. He's an American Coonhound with a red tick coat. He's only a year old and has not have a very good life before coming into our care. He and his sister, Gabby, were outside dogs who were ignored and never shown any love. He wants so much to get your attention and show him you will be good to him. He came in very skinny but now weighs approx. 40 pounds. He still needs to put on a few more pounds. He and his sister eat as if they will never be fed again. But...even though he wants the food desperately they show no aggression whatsoever. Come and meet Goofy and give him the home he dreams of. To see Goofy by APPOINTMENT ONLY, submit an online dog adoption application at http://hsfc.org/adoptions/applications/online/. An adoption counselor will contact you--typically within three business days--to discuss with you the type of dog you are looking for and to see whether we have a good match for you. Our counselor will discuss the next steps afterward. Our dogs and horses are NOT at the HSFC shelter at 4057 Chain Bridge Road, Fairfax, VA--only our cats, birds, rabbits, and small mammals can be visited there. Our dogs and horses are housed at our private farm in Centreville.

Story
Meet Leon Roscoe! Leon Roscie is estimated to be about 3 months old, and we are totally guessing his breed mix based on his looks and current size. But, we could be totally wrong, and we don't ever guarantee breed mix OR adult size! Leon Roscie was discovered at a high kill shelter in Louisiana that had an intake of over 200 puppies in one month, and they were killing them for space. Little Leon Roscoe was next on the list as his hold time was up, and we could not let them kill him! He came north to MD and is living in a foster home with several other dogs and very young grandkids that visit frequently, and he does great with everyone! Leon Roscoe is fully housebroken and has not had a single potty accident since he arrived at his foster home! He is a happy, outgoing puppy that just wants to play! He is affectionate, loving, sweet, outgoing, friendly, and has loads of puppy energy. He loves playing outside and digging as hounds do. He also is teething pretty much right now and needs LOTS of safe things to chew on so that he doesn't chew on things he shouldn't. Leon Roscoe is looking for a fun family to adopt him - someone that wants him to be fully part of the family. He has dreams of movie watching cuddled on the couch with his people, vacations, camping, hiking, and having fun with his new family. He would love another doggy sibling if possible as well. Leon Roscoe is young and has been exposed to cats and was curious and wants to play but didn't really show much more interest in them once they let him know they were not going to play. Leon Roscoe is learning basic commands in his current foster home. Leon Roscie currently weighs about 14 lbs. and is fully vetted, neutered, microchipped, dewormed, and has been on heartworm prevention since we rescued him. He was given a clean bill of health by the vet as well. Interested adopters please email MJsAnimalSanctuary@gmail.com to request an adoption application. Applications obtained from any websites are likely outdated and will not be accepted. Adopters are subject to reference checks, vet reference, home visit, and meet and greets. Adoption fee applies.

Story
Mr Rogers will break your heart.  He is a 3 year old redbone coonhound who is thin and a little torn up from being on the street and/or kept outside.  We don’t know how he ended up at the shelter but he wants only to be loved/given a chance.  He is the *most* gentle dog you’ll ever meet.  With some TLC and patience, he will give someone his whole heart.  He’s also beautiful - just needs to put on some weight and get some decent care.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.

Story
My name used to be Sweetie but when I first got here I was sort of goofy. When I went for a walk, I did a drop-and-roll every few steps so you could give me a belly rub. My foster family called me L.C. (Low Crawl)  Helen and the name has stuck. I love nature watching. Squirrels are really cool! I've seen some deer out where I am living right now and they're very exciting.  Mostly, though, I just want people to love me and pet me and tell me how sweet I am. I do get nervous around small children, though, so I prefer a family with older children. I am nervous around new dogs. After some controlled introductions, though, I can become good buddies. My best bud is my neighbor's very large chocolate lab.  PLEASE NOTE: We ONLY adopt to residents of the Washington metropolitan area, which includes Washington, D.C. and parts of Northern Virginia and Maryland. Please see our adoption guidelines at  https://spcanova.org/about-us/adoption-policies/.

Story
Britney Ears is a lovely, sweet girl. She's friendly with people and other dogs and is very treat-motivated. She's getting some basic training now to get her ready for adoption. Britney would do very well with another dog for companionship. Britney tested positive for heartworm and has completed her treatment. Now it's just a matter of waiting until she can be retested.  In addition to heartworm, Britney has a congenital heart defect which can be corrected later surgically. In the meanwhile, she's on a medication to help reduce the stress on her heart. PLEASE NOTE: We ONLY adopt to residents of the Washington metropolitan area, which includes Washington, D.C. and parts of Northern Virginia and Maryland. Please see our adoption guidelines at  https://spcanova.org/about-us/adoption-policies/.
