Story
Age: 4 years (as of 12/11/19) Weight: 72 lbs (as of 03/14/20) This dog has been spayed/neutered, is up to date on shots, on heartworm preventative and is microchipped. Rocky Balboa will melt your heart! This “Rocky” may be named after the lead character from the 1970s movie, but this playful and gentle boy is a lover not a fighter! We are thinking he is a Rottweiler mix. His foster mom says, “Rocky is really a sweet, kind, and gentle boy that listens well and will blossom as an only dog or with a dog buddy.” He is also a smart boy that is house trained, crate trained, and walks great on the leash. Rocky loves going for a ride in a car and is calm either tethered or in a crate. Sounds like a great walking, running, or hiking partner! Rocky is a little shy when meeting new people but quickly warms up and wants to be your new best friend! He is great around kids and loves playing with his foster mom’s 8-year-old niece when she is visiting. He loves playing with other dogs and is ok with cats but he will sometimes bark at them. Rocky is always ready for action but is also happy to chill with you and one of his toys. Rocky is a sweet happy boy who just wants a loving forever home. Can you make his dream come true? Fill out an application today and let him know that you'd love to have him join your family! Rocky’s story: He was found under a house protecting a litter of puppies whose mother passed. He tested positive for heartworm and treatment for a dog his size is quite expensive. His loving foster family spent several months raising funds for his treatment and he is now heartworm free! Medical Note: This dog has been treated for heartworm disease with melarsomine injections. Once treatment is completed and the dog tests negative for microfilaria, the dog will be cleared to resume normal activity and able to be adopted. Untreated heartworm disease can cause lasting damage to the heart, lungs and arteries, and can affect the dog’s health and quality of life even after the parasites are gone, possibly presenting as medical complications and/or new conditions in the future. This dog showed no symptoms of heartworm disease before or during treatment. A good resource for more information on heartworm disease is: https://www.heartwormsociety.org/pet-owner-resources/heartworm-basics. Please check with your vet if you should have any questions or concerns about this condition, and discuss any concerns you may have with your SOS Adoption Counselor. Adoption Fee: $585 To apply to adopt this dog, please complete our adoption application at www.sosarl.org/aa/ **Additional info you should know - For most of our dogs, we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each of our dogs as an individual and do our best to describe and place them based on personality not breed label. Some dogs may not yet be in New England, nor ready for immediate adoption. There may be additional vetting, quarantine, waiting periods and/or fees depending upon your state of residence. If you have questions or concerns on any of this, you can discuss this with your Adoption Counselor.
