Age: Estimated DOB 07/04/14 Weight: 17 lbs Dog friendly: Yes Cat friendly: Unknown/not tested Kid friendly: Yes Potty trained: Yes Crate trained: Yes Meet Gizzy! Gizzy is a quiet and gentle soul who rarely barks. He enjoys the comfort of his crate but also loves snuggling up with his foster mom on the bed. Gizzy is highly food-motivated and can perform an impressive high jump as a trick! He loves going for walks and doesn’t mind the rain or snow. However, he might not be the best companion for serious walkers, as he enjoys stopping frequently to mark his territory. Gizzy can be a bit dominant when meeting new dogs but settles down quickly. Gizzy does well with the house bunny, both inside and outside of the cage, and has even gone inside the bunny hutch to visit with no issues. While he has a tendency to mark his spot inside when visiting new homes, he’s only done this a few times at his foster home, usually when feeling a bit jealous of the bunny. Gizzy takes his daily eye drops very well for both his foster mom and his 12-year-old foster brother. He absolutely adores belly rubs and will close his eyes in bliss when getting them. If you’re looking for a loving and quirky companion, Gizzy might be the perfect match for you! Adoption Fee: $495

Story
Chloe is a super sweet little 12-year-old Teddy bear (shih tzu/ bichon) and around 9 lbs. Her owner passed away. She would love a new home with someone who is home all the time. Chloe is a perfect lady and has a lot of spring to her step. She shows a great deal of joy in her life and wants to play when she not nappy. She needs her beauty sleep. She came with alot of toys and has no problem sharing them with other dogs. She is good with children, and other dogs big and small, and cats. She prefers to sit next to you and in your bed at night. She wants to be your buddy. She has a cataract in one eye, but it does not bother her. She cannot see out of it. She had a dental and some teeth extractions while in our care and it in great shape. If you're looking for a sweet, playful older dog who will warm your lap and keep you company and also make you smile and laugh at her antics, this dog is for you. If you are looking for a new friend, apply for Chloe at www.campcompanion.org Adoption fee is $300 plus tax.

Story
I am Noel. I am from Kentucky If you're looking for a hiking partner, look away! Noel's idea of an active life is going around the yard a couple times, followed by a nap. With a clean bill of health, this girl is ready to be someone's spoiled, pampered princess. And just like the Princess in the Princess and the Pea, this girl is sensitive. No kids and no rough handling for her. This girl needs an experienced owner who is willing to build trust, respect her boundaries and help her learn to feel safe and secure in higher stress situations like the vet. Noel currently lives with a cat and another small dog. She has little interest in either of them, but can get snappy with the other dog if he gets too close to her food. She can manage the three steps at the back door, but a full staircase from the first floor to the upstairs is a bit much from her, as is jumping up on the furniture. She'll happily fuss to let you know she wants up and is fine being carried up and down. Because of her sensitivity around rough hands, Noel is only available to homes with no children. While you'll need a little patience to win her full trust, this girl will reward you by making curling up at your side her favorite hobby. From the Vet: Hi! I'm Noel a spunky southern gal finally ready to be looking for my furever home! I came into rescue a few months ago and needed to have several medical issues addressed before I could commit to the search for a home. I came having already had a recent mammary mass removal surgery when I was still in Kentucky. The biopsy from that surgery was inconclusive so I was scheduled for a second mass removal surgery at which time it was determined that the masses were a non-cancerous benign growth. My future family should monitor for any future masses and consult a primary care vet if new masses present. I also had a dental procedure where 17 teeth were extracted. At home dental care is recommended to maintain oral health as much as possible. On my first exam, grade 2/4 MPL's (medial luxating patellas) were noted, however I am walking fine and not experiencing any lameness or pain. Currently, surgical intervention will not be needed. Joint supplements and other supportive care in addition to exercise and lean diet could be considered helpful. Hope to settle into a quiet, happy home in my later years!

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!   Please check below to see what upcoming adoption events I will be attending or apply here for a private meeting.  If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <underdogrescue@petml.com> ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** Due to concern around COVID-19, Underdog Rescue is suspending all public adoption events and community events. We are still accepting applications for available dogs but are delaying in-person meet and greets due to the ‘stay at home’ policy. Thank you for your support.  DOB:  7/28/2015 Requires another dog in home: No, as long as people are often home Okay with dogs of all sizes: Yes Okay with cats: Unknown Okay with children under 12 years old: Unknown Requires a fenced yard: Yes Note: dogs must always be leashed whenever outside of a contained area Gladys an adorable 16 lb Shih-Tzu girl who is super sweet girl and she loves being loved. She doesn't like to be left alone or left in her kennel. She would do best with someone who is at home most of the time. She absolutely loves being held and sitting next to you on the couch or bed. She has never tried to jump up on furniture, but she learned to do the basement stairs very quickly. She likes to wrestle with other small dogs and chew on bones, but she has never destroyed anything. Her potty training is a work in progress. She is afraid to be outside, but with the weather getting nicer, she will follow her foster mom around the yard; however, she is often afraid to walk away. She has started doing her morning business outside but it's not a daily routine yet. She does go 8-9 hours at night without a potty break though, so she knows that. There are potty pads in the garage, so she goes on them sometimes when she doesn't want to go outside. She panics in the kennel but needs to go in there when her foster family leaves, so she won't potty in the house. She does well confined in the kitchen with another dog but sometimes breaks out. She gets a bit defensive when she is with her human and another dog enters her space, but her foster family is working on that and she is getting better. Still, when a new dog is around, she'll growl at it if she is on your lap. She likes to play with small toys and marrow bones. She eats almost anything but is a bit chunky. Gladys has the face of a Meerkat. She’s such a cute girl. She is a bit of a softy, so if she gets scolded, she'll spend the next 15 minutes loving up on her human. Really, that's all she wants is affection from her human. Are the one who can give her that?      Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends.  In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog, and do not currently have a dog residing with you, please understand that your home might not be the right fit for many of our dogs. ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there***  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.  ADOPTION EVENTS:   Adoption events are updated as the foster home RSVP's to attend. I wasn’t in the best shape when I arrived here.  I am still very skittish and shy; I’m especially fearful of thunderstorms, men, and I don’t know how I would do with those little people.  But once I get to know you and become comfortable with you, I will share my sassy side with you. My favorite things in the world are my toys and cat naps.  My “cat naps” are not quick naps…they are naps with the cats.  I love those little purry things! I curl up with them and their purrs and cuddles help me feel safe, so I can just fall right asleep!  If I don’t have a kitty around to cuddle with, I will just go curl up in my crate and dose off to dream land. As for my toys, I especially enjoy the worn out toys and like to grab them from my toy box…after all, they need their time out of their house too then I pile them onto my dog bed for a socializing session. I am a bit of a foodie; I love mealtime and will never turn down a treat. I am good with other doggies but do prefer those whose size is similar to mine. I usually play by myself but will sometimes play in a fenced yard with the other doggies that live with me.  My foster mom has these things with feathers that lay eggs…she calls them chickens and boy are they cool! I like to go to their house (my foster mom calls it a coop) and just stare at them…I’m sure they think I’m crazy, but they’re just so intriguing I can’t take my eyes off of them! My foster mom is helping me learn to do my personal business outside and I know if I’m on a good schedule, I’d be awesome at it. I don’t bark much except sometimes at night if I’m in my crate. I’m just saying to the family “goodnight and have beautiful dreams.” My foster mom says I’m “super sweet” and she finds it extremely “rewarding to see my sassy side.”  She’s so happy I’m doing so much better than when I first got here.  She likes watching me rub my face on the furniture and slide along the couch…my foster mom’s silly! I admit that I still have a ways to go but if you are a patient person who believes in me and are willing to help me become the best me possible and keep me safe, then I really hope you will come and take me to my new furever home.      Many of our dogs are rescued from commercial breeders where they spent their lives getting comfort from their canine friends.  In turn, most require another companion dog in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Meet Odin, named after a one eyed Greek god, because he only has one eye. Even with only one eye, he gets along quite well, only a little more cautiously. He’s a big 25 pound boy, about 9 years old. He is a mix, and based on his sturdy build we believe him to be Shih Tzu and Bull dog. Odin came into rescue because his owners had to move to a facility that didn’t accept dogs. He has wonderful house manners, and gets along with people and other dogs. He is house trained and lets you know when he needs to go out by either barking or patting you on the leg. He especially likes to be by his people. He may be a big boy but he really enjoys sitting on your lap to get lots of petting. He also enjoys slow, leisurely walks as well as chewing on his toys. Because he only has one eye, Odin has problems with depth perception and is tentative about going up and down stairs and steps. His one remaining eye is a bit dry, and his foster parents put in artificial tears to keep him comfortable and to maintain the health of his eye. He does not like going to the veterinarian or being groomed, and needs to be medicated to make it easier for both him and the vet or groomer. A family with older respectful children would be best, or a home with no children, and he would be fine with another dog or as an only dog. Odin is neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. He has had a dental while he has been in our rescue. His adoption fee is $170.00 plus $12.79 sales tax for a total of $182.79. His foster parents prefer that his adopters live within 100 miles of St Louis Park, MN and would like his new family to commit to attending the Shih Tzu Rescue Annual Reunion in September. To meet Odin, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see him and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Minnetonka Petco near Ridgedale the first Saturday of every month.
