Story
Rocky is a purebred shih tzu, born 2/10/14.  He is triple registered - AKC, ACA and UABR.  He has spent his entire life in a commercial kennel as a stud dog, and was consigned to a dog breeder auction to continue his breeding life, but instead was purchased into rescue so he can learn to be a pet. He is sweet tempered and friendly.  He is good with female dogs, but may be aggressive with males so would do best either as an only dog or with female companions.  He has been neutered, heartworm tested (negative), had a dental, has been vaccinated and wormed and dosed with Revolution for flea and heartworm prevention.  The vet noted that he has a grade 2-3 heart murmur, which does not appear to bother him but should be monitored periodically.  He weighs 11 pounds 5.5 ounces. His adoption fee is $150.00

Story
Old man Eugene, per the vet, is probably 12+ years old. He was in a local pound after being found as a stray and with his age and the horrible physical shape he was in, he was at risk of being euthanized. His hair was so nasty and matted that he just got a clean shave down for a fresh new start. His poor eyes were crusted over with green discharge. He had one large mass on his back, another large one hanging down from his chest, and his teeth were just atrocious. After a visit to the vet it was determined that he has dry eye which was the cause of the green discharge. He’s now on Tacrolymus eye drops and his eyes are good and clear on that. He has very limited vision but does still get around pretty well. Just needs a little time getting used to the area. The vet examined the masses and felt they were both just fatty lipomas. He did have a bacterial skin infection which required antibiotics and medicated baths. No issues with his ears and the lab work surprisingly all came back pretty good. Over time his skin cleared up, hair grew back beautifully, and he was eventually healthy enough to have a dental done. The mass hanging under his chest was also removed. Now, Eugene is a happy old man who mostly enjoys napping and being loved on. He likes spending a little time wandering around outside but once finished comes right back in and heads straight to his bed for more napping. He loves to be held or laying next to me getting belly rubs or laying on my chest or lap. He also gets excited for going on car rides and out visiting and exploring new places. When he decides to get up he sometimes lets his sassy side show and it’s extremely cute listening to him “talk” and gruff at me while scooting his little feet around. He had been around many dogs in my home of all sizes as well as my cat and he could care less about any of them, only his bed and love. That’s all he wants. He does pretty good with going potty outside but on occasion will still potty inside. He walks great on leash. Now that he is much better physically and probably has a bit of time still left in him, our hope would be to find a family or person who loves a good senior pup who could give him much more one on one time and maybe even take him out for car rides and visits. All of his vetting is done and he is microchipped. He is on monthly heartworm prevention and Tacrolymus eyes drops, both of which he’ll need to continue on. The bottle of eye drops cost about $55 and lasts about 1 1/2 months. f you think old man Eugene would make a wonderful companion for your home and that you have what it takes to give him the very best for however long he has left, then please consider adopting him. This is Elton (John), a nine year old Shih Tzu looking for a Forever home! He's a quiet and sweet little guy who doesn't ask for much. Elton is a former breeder dog and has had his vetting completed. He is working on his house training and sports wearing a belly band in the house very well. This pic is not very good as he was new and scared at the time.
