Story
Hello...here is my story...thank God there are people who speak up for us! I was chained to a tree 24/7 watching my life pass by...I braved all kinds of weather and rarely received any attention or love...finally someone went to the owners and rescued me...I went to an amazing foster who went above and beyond to make sure I knew he could be trusted, that he would never hurt me and has provided me with the love and structure I needed...thanx to him I am now crate trained, housebroken, walk well on a leash and I am very food motivated. I can become possessive of my food as it was a scarce source for many years...but I am working on that too! I would probably do best as an only pet in an adult home...Although I have never shown any signs of aggression I do take time to warm up to people because I was never socialized during the five years living on a chain with no warm hand to pet me...I love to cuddle in be and will roll over for belly rubs once I feel confident...I love to chase tennis balls, run and play...please fill out an application and make me a part of your family...

Story
Meet Dice, our 2 year old Akita/ Husky mix who came to our shelter as a stray. No owners have come forward, so he is now available for adoption! He is already a play group super star and loves running around the play yards. Dice is pretty good on leash, but may pull a little when he sees squirrels so would benefit with further training upon leaving the shelter. Dice would do best in an active household, with young teens 13 and up.If you are interested in learning more, contact our placement team at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter:E: Adoption@hempsteadny.govE: Foster@hempsteadny.govE: Rescue@hempsteadny.govT. 516.785.5220#Adoptme #adoption #takemehome #longislanddogs #animalshelter #municipleshelter #dogsofnewyork #longislandrescue #rescued #rescuedog #adoptionistheoption #opttoadopt #rescueismyfavoritebreed #puppylove #huskymix #akitamix #akitarescue #huskyrescue #siberianhusky #adoption #adopt #dogoftheday

Story
Hi. My name is Troy. I am a handsome 6yr old Akita mix. I may look intimidating, but I’m really just a gentle giant….once I know you’re not going to hurt me. My history with humans hasn’t been very good. I spent the first 5 yrs of my life living outside on concrete. My “owners” did not provide me with the human interaction I craved or allow me the chance to socialize with other dogs. When neighbors started complaining about me being outside crying in the frigid temperatures, my owner sent me to the highest kill shelter in NY. Thankfully I was rescued and have spent the last year living with the greatest foster dad ever. He has provided me with the love and structure I desperately needed and deserved. Thanks to him, I am now crate trained, housebroken, walk well on a leash and am very food motivated. I won’t lie….I can become possessive of my food, but I’m working on it and don’t mind eating breakfast and dinner and my crate. Although I have never shown any signs of aggression, I do take time to warm up to people since I was never properly socialized. For that reason, it’s best if I’m the only dog in the house. I love to cuddle in bed and will roll over for belly rubs once I know you’re not there to use, abuse or neglect me. I am fully vetted and healthy. I am looking for someone to take me for walks, runs and allow me chase after my tennis ball. I would really love to be part of a family. Phoenix is a great dog. Unfortunately I had a 3rd back surgery with hardware inserted. He can no longer get the care he is used to and is stubborn when the rest of the family attempts to carry out what I normally would do. He loves to go on long walks, large spaces to run, and he loves playing catch. He is very loyal and lovable.
