Story
Mario is a 2 1/2 year old " Blue Nose" (dark gray) American Pitbull Terrier. Words we use to describe him: Happy, Athletic, Eager to please, Goofy, Energetic, Handsome & Muscular. Mario came to us last March and tested Heartworm disease positive. After months of difficult treatments he is now healthy and ready for adoption. Mario gets along with other dogs, but he can be overwhelming for some because of his eagerness to play. He would do best in a home without cats. His favorite activities are playing fetch, going for walks & runs, playing tug, and cuddling. Mario is a fetch MANIAC, which is his favorite way to use up his energy! He also likes to sit quietly while being pet and talked to calmly, which he finds soothing. He is currently working on basic commands and house manners and is catching on fast. Mario is extremely food and toy motivated so keeping his attention is not a problem. He knows sit, stay, side and lay. On cold winter days he likes to release energy by playing tug and trading tricks for treats. Mario requires daily exercise, consistency, and discipline; he would do best with an experienced dog owner. Mario is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on his vaccinations. He is heartworm negative and his forever home will have to be very careful to make sure he gets his heartworm preventative every month. His adoption fee is $425.00 plus sales tax. Please fill out a preadoption application if you would like to meet this gentleman.

Story
Enzo is an amazing boy! Please watch his video for a full recount of his journey to this point. He was pulled from a shelter in CA after our heartstrings were broken. Enzo had LOTS of unrestrained energy but after 3 years of walks, and love and learning restraint and patience, he is READY! He loves his buddies as you can see with his friend Sam who dug under the kennels to come to visit! We will be very particular because Enzo can climb that same 6-foot chain link fence just to go explore the world. He loves being the center of attention. He kennels, he downs, sits and is learning to shake. He is getting better about cats but doesn't always know his own strength with them sometimes. He is also pretty clumsy and will too easily knock over little ones so small children in the household would be discouraged. Experienced pit bull owner with vet references only, please. We are also looking for a foster family for him and will pay for them to take him to training classes. He is learning to wear a gentle leader and is doing well.

Story
I am Sam. Doc thinks I was born mid 2020. I enjoy long naps on the beach, long naps on the couch, long naps anywhere. I don't like too many stairs. I would love to have a human sibling. I hope your dog likes being around me too, but am okay being an only dog. I am not sure how I feel about cats. I'm gentle when you share your snacks with me and may drool a bit when getting my water. I know sit, down, paw, wait, and here. Come down and we can go for a walk and get to know each other! All pets adopted from the Humane Society of Freeborn County will be spayed or neutered, up to date on age appropriate vaccinations, testing and will be microchipped. All of this is included in their adoption fee. Fill out an application to adopt at freeborncountyhs.org When transitioning your new pet home please allow for at least 4-6 weeks for your pet to adjust to their new home. They will need this time to decompress, and adjust to a new routine and environment. During that time we will provide check ins and counseling to ensure a successful transition. Please review all basic adoption requirements listed on our website before applying. We take finding the right homes for the animals in our care very seriously. They deserve nothing but the best! Please allow 2-7 days for applications to be processed. If an animal is listed in foster care, these pets are not at our facility, but are in foster care homes. They are still available for adoption, and meet and greets are done with pre-approved applicants only. If you have any questions feel free to send us an email at freeborncohumanesociety@gmail.com, send us a message on Facebook, or call or text 507-377-8501.

Story
Dixie is an 8 year old pit bull type gal who came to the shelter as a surrender. She looks like a pittie from her head to the middle of her body and like a bulldog from the middle of her body to her stubby tail. She has had at least one litter of puppies. Dixie is adorably on the chunky side, weighing around 73 pounds. She has been completely vet checked, spayed, and chipped and her fee is $125. Dixie is a good girl. She does need some basic training with a gentle, understanding hand. She does well with kids, but does need to be the only dog in the home. She is a loving lady who is very attentive to her people. She seems to crave affection and security. We are open on Sundays from 2-4 and Tuesdays from 4:30-6. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. We do require that potential adopters be at least 21 years old and that any resident dogs be spayed or neutered.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.

Story
Some dogs just seem to have the bad luck cloud hanging over them. Goliath is one of these. He originally came to us in January 2019 as an owner surrender and has been adopted and returned a couple of times since then. He keeps running into problems with breed discrimination, rental situations changing, and human relationship statuses changing. You see, Goliath is one of those "American Bullies", another name for a pit bull type dog who has been mixed with other breeds to be short, stocky, and muscular. Sadly for him, he also received a really bad home ear cropping job so he has very little outside ear tissue. He is around 4 years old now, is fully vetted, and his fee is $125. PLEASE READ:  Goliath will NOT be adopted into a rental situation. He needs an experienced, mature home. He can be pretty protective of his people so a secure environment is important. He doesn't have a ton of physical stamina but does need a little bit of exercise. Older kids are okay as long as they are respectful. Goliath is a volunteer favorite and is a happy boy when he is around his people. We're just not sure how he would do with other dogs. He can be a bit reactive to them at the shelter but that could also be the noisy environment.  We are open on Saturdays from 10-11:30, Sundays from 2-4, and Tuesdays from 4:30-6. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport, behind Spectrum. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. We do require that potential adopters be at least 21 years old and that any resident dogs be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm testing/preventative, and spayed or neutered.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.

Story
Dahlia came to the shelter from the city pound when her legal hold time was finished and no one had claimed her. She is a tiny pit bull type dog, commonly known as a "pocket pittie". She weighs around 37 pounds and is compact and muscular. She is a friendly gal and full of enthusiasm. She will need some basic training as she does need to learn to curb said enthusiasm. She will need to be vet checked and spayed before adoption and her fee is $125. We think that Dahlia would be okay with older kids. At this time we don't know how she would do with other dogs and have no way of testing with cats. We are open on Saturdays from 10-11:30, Sundays from 2-4, and Tuesdays from 4:30-6. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport, behind Spectrum. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Please contact Andi Johnson (ajohnson451@gmail.com) for more information about this pet.Well, hey everyone! My name is Grace and I’m not quite 12 years old. I am calm, easy going, and love snuggles and to kiss you. My tongue doesn’t always fit into my mouth, and my foster mom keeps saying how seriously adorable I am. She thinks my eyes can get me anything, so she gives me lots of treats, and peanut butter in my kongs. They’re my favorite.   I’m HW+ like my brother, but due to my age, the humans that love and care about me think its better for my body to not undergo the treatment for the worms. I’m cool with that, because they don’t even effect me, and I’d rather remain as healthy as possible for whatever time I have left!   I am awesome around cats, kids, other dogs, and anything else. I’m basically an angel and I hope our new home will show up soon - I can’t wait to get cozy and comfortable with my new family soon!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Little Miss Bailey must be an only dogMeet Bailey! Bailey was turned in by her family because they were “done with her”. She had reportedly nipped at a child over food. RCBR couldn’t let her retirement years be spent at a shelter or in jeopardy of being euthanized. She is good with cats but does not seem to care for most dogs. She is a nice petite 48 pounds and full of 48pounds of love to give you! She loves to wag her tail in happiness and likes to play wrestle if you will wrestle with her. She enjoys going for daily walks and loves to take naps and get gently body massages. She has some medical concerns including probably cancerous lumps (one on her ankle and one on her lip). Because of her age and because she had a couple short 10 second episodes of collapse, we believe it is not in her best interest to go through under anesthesia. She is a true doll and deserves the perfect furever home. We don’t know if she will have 6 months for 3 years but we know she will love you completely if you welcome her into your home.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Please contact Andi Johnson (ajohnson451@gmail.com) for more information about this pet.I am deaf! 4/4 UPDATE: Grant and Gracie do not need to be adopted together. Grant would possibly be okay with another female but is reactive to the male in the foster home. Also, very curious ... a little too curious ... about the cat in the house.Hi everyone! My name is Grant, and I’m 8 years old! I’m deaf, but that small little detail only makes me more awesome! I’m a fantastic listener of body language, and vibration. I can sit, and I do so pretty dang well, just by seeing you hold up your hand! My sister Grace helps me too, and when I’m snoozing away and someone comes into the room, she doesn’t let me sleep through anything! She wakes me up by nudging me, or barking like a maniac in my face!    I’m heartworm positive, but at the very beginning of treatment, and I’m going to be just fine in a few months. The main thing right now is I can’t go for runs or play too hard.   I’m really curious with cats, and sometimes my foster mom is a little nervous when her kitten walks into my space. I think it’s better for me to be in a home with no kittens, or a cat that stands his ground with me, and can have space to roam where I’m not allowed.   I LOVE to play. I live for peanut butter kong treats, and I have so much attention and affection to give. I hope someone out there really wants to give me  a good home - we’re so lovable and we would make your family SO happy!
