G`day mate! I`m Dezi!I`m a young, active and beautiful girl - about a year old and 52lbs - and I`m an Australian Shepherd Mix!I`m a very playful and friendly pup! I have a lot of energy, and I would benefit from a fenced in back yard to run around and play in!I`m also a very smart girl, I already know sit and am learning other commands like down; I am willing to learn more!I do have a tendency to guard my food and treats, so I appreciate my space when its feeding time. However, I do take treats nicely and am polite when being fed - just don`t try to take my food or special treats away!I would do best in an active home, especially someone that loves to run, as I have a ton of energy to burn off. I would also be a good dog for activities such as lure coursing and agility! I did lure coursing at an adoption event and I loved it!!!I love to play fetch, and will bring a toy right back to you! I love toys!I get very excited during play, but I tend to forget my manners and get a little carried away with the mouthiness. I would be best in a home with older, dog-savvy children.I can be very mouthy when it comes to playing with other dogs, and I have a lot of energy, so I may not be a good fit with just any dog. I will need to meet your dog if you have one.I do however hate cats, so I will need a home without them!I would do better with someone who has had some experience with my breed or other active breeds.I`m up to date on my vaccines, however I will need to see my new veterinarian within 2 weeks of my adoption to ensure that I stay healthy and keep on a regular vaccination schedule.If you are interested in adopting me or another homeless pet at Macomb County Animal Control, walk-in adoption hours are Monday-Friday from 10am-4pm. She is one that may take several visits until she trusts you for adoption. If this girl could be for you, please fill out an application today! The Animal Rescue Project (www.animalrescueproject.org) is committed to the best possible veterinary care for the pets it rescues and it is looking for adopters who will be similarly committed. All dogs and puppies are given a general check-up when they enter our program. They receive medication to remove any intestinal parasites (worms), fleas, and ticks they may have. Dogs greater than six months of age are checked for heartworm. If heartworm positive, the Animal Rescue Project treats the disease. Dogs and pups receive all age-appropriate vaccinations for distemper, and dogs greater than four months of age are also vaccinated for rabies, in compliance with State of Michigan laws. Most dogs and older puppies are spayed or neutered before adoption. In the case of puppies not old enough to be safely sterilized, a $50 deposit is required at the time of adoption and is refunded to the adopter with proof of sterilization. The Animal Rescue Project requires every adopter to establish an active relationship with a veterinarian no later than 10 days after adoption. Adopters will receive a plan for routine veterinary care at the time of adoption and are expected to work with their vet to complete the plan.

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Dougie is looking for someone with a big loving heart to mend his broken heart. After a life of loyal companionship (much of that at the end of a chain), Dougie found himself neglected and abandoned in a shelter.  A fate he certainly didn't deserve.  He has plenty of love left to give. He will fit in any situation as he does well with kids and other dogs. He sleeps through the night in his crate and goes to the door when he needs to go outside. No food aggression at all as he will move aside and let the other dogs eat his food if we are not careful.  I suspect his vision is not what it once was, but he does just fine and navigates stairs and the backyard on his own.  He still plays nicely by himself with toys and does very well on a leash. He's a pretty quiet guy that doesn’t cause any problems . He is hoping someone will give him a home to spend his golden years where he belongs, with his forever family.    He looks like a pure bred Australian Shepherd -Blue Merle, and his eyes are different colors, which is super neat!   Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue microchips all dogs and cats before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the shoulder blades and are another form of identification should the animal get lost. The microchips are registered to  Happy Days Dog and Cat Rescue. The adopter's information is added once the adoption is complete. The adopter is responsible for a $19.99/Year registration fee or a $69.00/Lifetime registration fee to change information.  Dogs and Cats still need to have collar with tags should they get lost. My Ziggy boy is 5 years old; had him since a baby. He lives with myself, my husband & two young children. He's the PERFECT indoor; obedient & protective dog. Due to certain circumstances, we’ve since moved from a house with a fenced in yard, to no yard at all. He's miserable being in the house all the time. But every time we go to take him to the dog park or on a walk, he's gotten worse & worse. He doesn't know how to act outside of the house. Doesn't get along with other dogs or people he doesn't know. He either strictly needs to be an indoor dog [with a small secluded fenced in area for pottying] OR he needs LOTS of training. No concerns of him being harmful in the house, just concern for outsiders. He would be a great fit for an older person or couple who’s more reserved.
