Cat Adoption Team

Cat shelter in Sherwood, OR

The Cat Adoption Team (CAT) is the Pacific Northwest’s largest non-profit, limited-admission cat shelter with its own full-service on-site veterinary hospital. CAT works with our community to find loving, lifetime placement for homeless cats and kittens in need. The cats available for adoption from CAT come to us through public surrender and through partnerships with local county shelters, rescue groups and veterinary offices. CAT works to take in cats that might otherwise be euthanized. CAT saves close to 3,000 lives per year and relies heavily on the support of private donations and generous volunteers. Thank you for visiting our site and helping us save lives!

Additional adoption info

Cat Adoption Team is a private, nonprofit organization that relies on individual donations, grants, and our own fundraising to operate. We receive no federal, state, or government funding.

Adoption fees help offset some of the costs associated with providing for the cats and kittens in our care—this includes housing, food/litter, medical care, enrichment, behavior modification, and more.

CAT uses variable adoption pricing. The adoption fee for each cat is dependent on many factors including age, behavior, medical condition, and demand.

Adoption fees range from $15 to $200 for cats (1 year old and above) and $100 to $200 for kittens (2-11 months old). The adoption fee for each cat is included in his/her pet bio.

Adoption discounts apply for adopting a pair of cats or kittens. Please view our website for more details.

Included in the adoption fee:
Spay or neuter surgery
Medical examination
Age-appropriate vaccinations
Flea treatment and deworming
FIV/FeLV testing
Microchip and registration fee
Any additional treatment needed while in our care
Post-adoption medical exam from a participating veterinary clinic
Sample bag of Purina Pro Plan food
Cat/Kitten Care Handbook and post-adoption support

The Cat Adoption Team requires all potential adoptive families to meet with a trained adoption counselor before adopting a cat. If you plan on adopting a cat the same day, please plan to visit the adoption center at least 1-2 hours prior to closing (adoptions end 30 minutes before close). Families must complete an application and sign a contract, which outlines our organization's adoption guidelines. Individuals who are interested in adopting a cat or kitten are welcome to call our facility to discuss these guidelines before visiting our adoption center.

In order to give our kittens a strong, healthy start in life, and to minimize behavior problems by assuring that they are fully weaned and litter box trained, we do not adopt out any kitten until they are at least 8-10 weeks old. Kittens age 6 weeks and older may be available for pre-adoption. Please visit our website for details.
