Cass was a stray brought into a Chicago open intake facility.

They don’t come any sweeter than this, folks! Cass is super sweet, but we have to let you know she’s a bit of a close talker. If you bend down or sit down to pet her she will promptly put her nose 2 inches from yours and stare into your eyes. She loves attention and will sit quietly as long as you have a hand on her, but she is never demanding for attention. Cass is the best girl, but she’s also ALL beagle in personality. Her foster home lovingly calls her “trouble beagle” because she’s...a beagle...and they tend to get in trouble. She never does anything intentionally naughty, it is always on accident and she is always very sorry. Cass is never demanding...so if you are busy, she will keep herself entertained by looking around the house for things to store in her kennel. (She has a serious hoarding problem). Unfortunately some of those items get broken in the process. She also once knocked all the books off the shelf because she was trying to hide something she found behind all the books. She’s impossible to stay mad at and her hoarding is incredibly cute. She will go to the toy basket, spend 3 minutes touching and evaluating all the items. Once she picks the one she wants she immediately takes it to her crate where she spends 3 minutes deciding where to put it, occasionally rearranging the whole hoard of toys in the process. She then rests for a few minutes and heads out to find another prize. Cass is being fostered with an 80lb male dog who is awkward and poorly socialized. She doesn’t interact with him much, but also never avoids him. He is not always comfortable around other dogs and he is completely relaxed around her. He has bad manners and likes to steal toys, which she is generally agreeable to. She doesn’t care if he goes in her crate with her or origamis himself to sit on the bed with her. She has a great, calm, “live and let live” personality. Cass is not good with cats.
Cass would be a huge counter surfer...if she could reach the counter. If you leave something dangling over the side she will pull it down to see what it is. Her foster mom has found national geographics and pens in her bed. Food left on a coffee table will be free game. Cass has never been invited on the furniture and has never tried to get on it herself. She is incredibly quiet, for any dog, not just a beagle. She has only barked a time or two, likely because the other dog started it. She goes right in her kennel and seems to be completely unaffected by being locked in it, even if you’re home. She never cries nor paws at the door. If you need her to be in her crate for any reason, she’s cool with it and would likely want to have a crate to hoard her stuff in her future home. We imagine she uses this time to catalog the 400 toys she has hidden in her crate. Cass is an older lady and she is good about going outside to potty, but she needs you to offer it. She will have accidents if she is not asked to go out often enough as she does not have any signals that she needs to go outside.
Cass is currently heartworm positive and needs to have a dental and mammary tumor removed once the treatment is completed. She cannot be adopted until she receives medical clearance, but we will consider a foster-to-adopt home for her. The vet she is seeing is in Tinley Park and all appointments will need to be conducted at that office until she is officially adopted.
