Story
Linus is a very special boy who will need a patient, calm, and loving home to help him come out of his shell. He was likely not exposed too much as a young puppy; perhaps he was a stray in the early part of his life. We don't really know the root cause but for Linus the world can be a scary place. Since arriving at TVR, he has become more confident and secure in his surroundings. He is still easily startled but is able to recover much faster than when he first arrived to us from Georgia. He has gone from staying in one corner, rarely moving throughout the day, to walking around, wagging his tail when he sees familiar faces, and barking when he sees other dogs and strangers. He loves to play with the other dogs and feels much safer in their presence. He is slowly gaining more confidence interacting with humans but still takes time to get comfortable with new people. In spite of his fears, he does know how to walk on leash and seems to be relatively house-trained, though accidents are likely during any new, stressful transitions. Linus should go to a home with at least one other dog who is friendly and able to show him the ropes. Because he startles so easily and could bolt out an open door in a panic, we would prefer he go to a home without young children. We see so much potential in this sweet guy; with some patience and compassion, we know he could turn into a happy, loving companion.

Story
Pebbles's story: Pebbles is a sweet, playful girl who just wants a family to take her home and give her the best life ever! (She is in a foster home now and can't wait for you to schedule an appointment to meet her!) The best life ever, according to Pebbles, is a home that loves her and spends time with her.  She would love a family to play with her and take her for daily walks.  Pebbles also requests a backyard with a fence so she can run around joyfully like the happy young dog that she deserves to be! Before she came to our rescue, Pebbles only knew life with her mother, and then was surrendered to a shelter as a young pup. The first shelter she was in became overcrowded, so we at the Stafford SPCA stepped in to take this beautiful girl.  Since Pebbles never had a real home, she doesn't have many manners or much training, so it became clear that she really needed a foster home to help her learn the rules.  The good news is that we found her a GREAT foster home who is helping her learn how to behave properly, and where she has lots of opportunities to exercise and have fun! Pebbles loves other dogs. She would thrive in a home with other dogs, especially if they like to have a playmate. We are unsure of how she will behave with cats. Because Pebbles is energetic and bouncy, we are looking for a family without young children.  Our guess is that Pebbles is a Shepherd, Border Collie mix but that is just a guess.  What we do know is that she is 100 percent adorable.  Pebbles' foster family thinks that she is a Black Lab / Australian Cattle Dog mix. So they're calling her a "Labra-Heeler." That's also a really good guess, given Pebbles' intelligence and boundless energy! Pebbles is up to date on her shots, spayed and ready to make some family very happy! Are you the perfect forever home for Pebbles? Approximate date of birth: 06/18/2019 Gender: Female Spayed/neutered: Spayed Weight: 55 lbs Vaccines: Up to date Heartworm results: Negative OK with kids: Older, sturdier children OK with cats: Unknown  OK with dogs: Yes  Adoption fee: $ 199    To Apply: 1) Print adoption application here:   https://staffordspca.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Stafford_SPCA_Adoption_Application_Adoption-Process-04182018.pdf 2) Email to adopt@staffordspca.org OR Fax to 866-522-8042. Please see our website for details on our adoption process, and feel free to email with any questions about the process or about the pet you're interested in. Home visits required and dog adoptions often do require structural fencing. (We make decisions regarding the fencing requirement on a dog-by-dog basis, according to the dog's exercise needs and energy level.)  Stafford SPCA does not condone the exclusive use of invisible fencing.   We reserve the right to deny placement of puppies and kittens into homes with children under 5 years old. Story
Everyone loves Lucy!!! She two years old, but still plays like a puppy. She is full of energy and needs a home where she can run and play. She loves fetch and her stuffed animals. She also loves to have one on one play with her puppy buddies. She does have anxiety about dog parks and driving in the car. She has a thundershirt which helps a lot. She’s good with kids, but due to her hyper nature and need for attention, she’d do best with teens or child free homes where she can be the baby.

ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Meet Kyrah, the lovely pup with a heart of gold and a tale of resilience! Kyrah's journey began when she was found as a stray and brought to one of our partner shelters, where she awaited her chance at a forever home. Since her spaying/neutering date on November 21, 2023, Kyrah has been in good health, with no medical concerns to speak of. She's proven to be a social butterfly, getting along well with both dogs and cats, although she may initially engage in a playful chase with felines. While her interactions with children are still a mystery, Kyrah's gentle nature suggests she may be a wonderful companion for families. She's a playful spirit who enjoys engaging in chase play with other dogs, though she may need a bit of time to warm up to larger groups. Kyrah is a model citizen in her crate, settling in comfortably. With a solid foundation in housebreaking and the knowledge of the "sit" command, Kyrah is already on her way to becoming the perfect family pet. While she walks well on a leash, her excitement may lead to pulling, especially when she spots small critters to chase, so a bit of leash training will be beneficial. Kyrah's list of likes is extensive, including affection, treats, toys, walks, and training sessions. With no known dislikes observed so far, Kyrah is ready to bring joy and love into the lives of her future family. If you're ready to open your heart to this sweet and spirited companion, contact us today to arrange a meeting. Let's give Kyrah the loving home she deserves. Adoption fees apply. Story
Patsy is a sweet girl who loves people! She was found on the side of a road with her seven puppies and we could not believe someone had left them but are happy they found their way to HART. Her puppies have all been adopted and now it's Patsy's turn. Patsy is a very friendly, happy dog. She is always ready for play and human attention. She plays fetch and loves chew toys. She is friendly with children but may be too bouncy for small children. She is learning not to jump on on people and that sitting rather than jumping is the way to get attention. She is house trained and crate trained. Thank you for your interest in this HART pet! Please visit www.hart90.org/petdetail.aspx?ID=13789 to get the most up-to-date and accurate information on this pet, to email the contact person listed for more information and how to meet Patsy, or to submit an online application. HART adopts to the local DC/VA/MD metro area only. Visit our website for more information about our adoption process.
